Newcastle are facing a water-shed game against Birmingham City at St. Andrews this Monday night. Anything but a win will cause more relegation clouds to gather over the Tyne and the great City of Newcastle.
Dark storm clouds gathering over Newcastle
We want to see 100% commitment from every single Newcastle players who gets the opportunity to play on Monday night, and a fighting performance is only the first requirement.
It looks like the Newcastle faithful will be gathering in Birmingham in big numbers on Monday to give the lads the support, they probably just don’t deserve, given their pathetic and heartless displays this season.
But if they can produce a stirring, inspired performance and 3 points on Monday – all will be forgiven – again.
We will look to some players to start playing out of their shirts if we are to survive this season, because our form over the last 12 games, if continued for a full season would get us just 9 points.
Derby County are having one of the worst seasons on record in the Premier League but they already have 10 points, four of them courtesy of Newcastle United.
Yes, that’s how disastrous this situation is for the club and the ever loyal Geordie fans. Wouldn’t you think by now that the Newcastle United club would have delivered a team the Geordie fans deserved?
From what we’ve seen recently of Birmingham City under Alex McLeish – they will be 100% ready for the battle, and will never give up or wave the white flag like our overpaid stars have done so often this season.
As a case in point, Birmingham were 2-0 down at Portsmouth on Wednesday night after just 9 minutes, but they came back to be all square at the half, They eventually lost the game to two Portsmouth second half goals. When was the last time Newcastle cam back big time in any game?
But our lads can switch all that around on Monday night, but we’re not sure which Newcastle team is going to turn up. We desperately need most of our players to turn up for the game, stand and be counted, that’s for sure. In the last few games many of them didn’t even bother turning up. Team selection will also be very important since Kevin now has a choice for the strikers.
If Owen and Smith still start the game that will be a very bad omen indeed.
If Birmingham beat Newcastle on Monday, they will go one point above the Magpies in the table. Brum already have a superior goal difference over Newcastle, like every team in the league except Derby.
Here’s the state of the league right now – at the bottom, which is all we are interested in this season. 🙁
Pos Team Games Won Draw Lost GF GA GD Points 12 Middlesbrough 29 7 9 13 26 43 -17 30 13 Wigan 29 7 7 15 26 42 -16 28 14 Reading 29 8 4 17 34 55 -21 28 15 Newcastle 29 7 7 15 30 56 -26 28 16 Sunderland 29 7 6 16 26 47 -21 27 17 Birmingham 29 6 8 15 33 45 -12 26 18 Bolton 28 6 7 15 28 42 -14 25 19 Fulham 29 3 11 15 26 49 -23 20 20 Derby 29 1 7 21 14 63 -49 10
From the table it looks like Derby and Fulham will go down, and one team from Bolton, Birmingham, Sunderland, Newcastle, Reading, Wigan or even Middlesbrough.
