Birmingham vs Newcastle – Martins Viduka Start

birmingham-city-fc-logo.pngnufc-crest.png

Kevin Keegan has made several changes from the side that fell apart against Liverpool last Saturday.

Keegan gives starts to Martins and Viduka and finally Smith is benched.

But we look a bit weak on the wings and we have to assume Geremi and Martins will start there. Very surprising to us that Charles N’Zogbia is only a substitute and not starting on the left wing.

There is no Damien Duff included so we assume he’s injured, unless he’s been given a night off. It’s good to see big Andy Carroll on the bench.

We wanted Oba to start and Smith to be on the bench so we got our wish, but who’s going to provide the width and attacking flair down the wings?

It looks to us we’ll play 4-3-3 (?) with Michael Owen, Mark Viduka and Oba Martins up front with Nicky Butt, Joey Barton and Geremi in midfield.

But the bench is also strong and it looks like Keegan is going all out attack tonight. With only 3 goals in 8 games, that’s probably good.

TEAMS

Birmingham City:
Maik Taylor, Liam Ridgewell, Stephen Kelly, Radhi Jaidi, David Murphy, Fabrice Muamba, Sebastian Larsson, Damien Johnson (c), Gary McSheffrey, Mikael Forssell, James McFadden
Subs: Colin Doyle, Stuart Parnaby, Mehdi Nafti, Mauro Zarate, Cameron Jerome

Newcastle United:
Steve Harper, Habib Beye, Jose Enrique, Abdoulaye Faye, Steven Taylor, Nicky Butt, Geremi, Joey Barton, Oba Martins, Mark Viduka, Michael Owen (c)
Subs: Fraser Forster, Claudio Cacapa, Charles N’Zogbia, Alan Smith, Andy Carroll

This is the night of truth for Newcastle.

Howay The Lads!!!

Faye just got brushed off the ball. Once again the team selection has to be questioned however. Worst defence in the league except for derby…maybe if that fat arsehole ashley had spent some money we’d be better.

1 shot on target Brum have had, 1……

And, predictably, they score from that one shot…

GP, ashley has hardly been tight with the purse. And anyway, the problems with this team are several seasons deep.. hardly the fault the latest ownership.

In the transfer market, yes he is. A net spend of £10m? That’s nothing in todays market.

If two people get a return train ticket to Carlisle, the second one goes half price. It’s called a ‘Duo’. Gretna is just up the road but they couldn’t sell all their tickets.

we need to get nzogbia into the team. we have no width at all. martin is the only one creating something. we need to get owen out. offering nothing at all.

Why is Zog on the bench… once again, not enough quality in the midfield I think is the problem, Barton and Butt giving the ball away a bit easily I think.

Come on, tighten the defence and score goals – we need at least a point out of this!
