Keegan’s Complete Faith In Michael Owen

Michael Owen has come in for some criticism at Newcastle United, but it may be he has found a manager who can bring out the best in him.

Michael Owen – Keegan has complete faith is his captain

Kevin spoke to the Newcastle Journal after last night’s game:

“Anyone who saw the Blackburn game will know Michael could have had four or five. He missed those chances, which is very unusual for him, but the good thing is we are starting to create a few more for him. If we do that he’ll stick them in.”

“Some people in this country might be lacking a bit of faith in him, but I’m not. His record for Newcastle United is superb and he is a world-class player by anybody’s standards. He is a world-class striker and you cannot ignore that.”

“Michael always has the chance to answer his critics on the pitch and he’s such a strong character he’ll do that. You see it in training every day. His performances and work-rate have been absolutely outstanding since I came to the club.”

It’s good to watch Michael’s goal last night and how he reacts like greased lightning to the half chance. The chance was created by a powerful shot from Oba Martins that goalkeeper Taylor did well to block.

When the ball rebounded there were two Birmingham defenders near the ball and Michael was two yards away. Two other Birmingham players are also a few yards away.

In an instant there are 5 players going for the ball – 4 defenders and Michael – and Owen beats them all to the ball to poke it in the goal. A half chance at best.

It was just a great opportunist goal from Michael.

We have a feeling that in one of these games Michael will explode and hit them all home.

Hey, that could be on Saturday. 😀

    Certainly hope so Ed.

I also give credit to Oba, people asked at the beginning of the season if they could work together and I firmly believe they can.

Both can cause any defence problems and both can find the back of the net.

I hope the game tonight will awake the (sleeping giants) team and start scoring a hatfull of goals before the end of the season but to win by one goal would be a great start. 🙂

That’s fine and everything – I’ve always supported Owen, despite the tough time he’s had – but I think it’s important Keegan doesn’t make him untouchable. Although Owen scored today, I thought Martins looked a lot more dangerous in the second half and I was annoyed he was brought off when he was.

The team should always be put before a player and if a system doesn’t work, or a striking partnership isn’t firing, then Kev shouldn’t be worried about dropping Owen.

Well he finally dropped Smith so imo he’s going in the right direction.

I agree I thought (and looking at the poll many others too) Oba was better and created more even from the left side.

Good goal from Owen, but I just think he needs to score more often. I am hoping to see more goals against the Cottagers.

for yesterday’s match, i saw only harper, taylor, faye, enrique, beye, martins and owen played. the others just useless. our 3 midfielders are miserables. viduka was totally useless. geremi was doing nothing than giving away the ball and poor corners!!!.
salute to martins, enrique and beye…

Just got back from the game. In the end I guess it was a fair result and we can take heart from the fact that we came back from 1 – 0 down to pull 1 back. At least it stops the rot and hopefully prepare us for that win that has been eluding us.

A few observations from the game today:

Nicky Butts distribution is shockingly poor

Defence are too casual – Clear the ball 1st time

Taylor needs to cut out the mistakes

Geremis set play distribution was shocking

It was good to see Viduka back, we need to get him fit

Apart from that we played some neat football and with a bit of luck we could have won it. Owen worked his socks off and was everywhere and capped it off with a great goal. Martins was fantastic, unlucky not to score and to be taken off.

I thought Keegan should have taken off Viduka for Carroll and Geremi for Nzogbia. We wud have had a better chance of nicking it.

Last but not least, Keegan deserves a pat on the back for finally deciding to drop Smith. Now we await Butt……….

P.S – Brum support is abysmal. No singing, no support – If it wasn’t for us geordies, St Andrews would have been like a morgue. 1 Brum fan was so incensed at our fans taunting them, went on to the pitch heading towards us and it tiook 5 stewards to drag him out. Long live the toon!!!!!!

Owen plays as an AMC during the 2nd half, we got the point due to keegan dropping alan smith – everyone seem confidence after the goal. The more alan smith remain at the bench, the more point we get

Good to see Oba in a huff and Kev responding the way he did. I know Oba’s a bit of a wild card but we need to keep the lad happy and play him every game possible. I watched on TV but agree with everthing Rocky (Hudson?) says. Butt and Geremi’s disribution was off. But Butt did work hard.

Butt needs to be able to get the ball to Zogbia and go tackling again

i did think owen was going to score, it was great when the pub erupted with singing and jumping around…

it was a bitch when the goal was disallowed because everyone was celebrating it took about a minute for us to realise that it was still 1-0
