Newcastle Could Target Liverpoool’s Riise This Summer

Kevin Keegan is said to be keen on Liverpool Football Club’s John Arne Riise, and this is not the first time we have been linked with the Norwegian.

john-arne-riise-34.jpg

John Arne Riise – he’ll look good in black and white stripes 😀

But Riise would fit in perfectly with Keegan’s style of play and is an attacking left back or left winger, who we think would make a great addition to our squad.

But yes we know we are being linked with many players right now and only yesterday there were reports we’d actually offered £9M for St Etienne’s powerful striker Bafetimbi Gomis

We expect Kevin to be given sizable transfer funds when the summer window opens, as long as we can still avoid relegation. Keegan’s first priority will obviously to be toi strengthen a defense which has again has been the weakest part of Newcastle’s game and has so far concede 57 goals this season. 🙁

That’s despite Big Sam bringing in 6 new defenders last summer. 22 year-old Jose Enrique is starting to look the part at left back but Riise can also be deployed on the left wing and it remains to be seen if Charles N’Zogbia elects to stay with the club in the summer.

But Newcastle are going to move quickly for their summer targets now that we are well staffed with goods recruitment personnel, in a bid to sign the Norwegian international. Newcastle will not be the only club after Riise’s services, and we think something like £3.5M would be a decent opening offer.

Riise of course has massive experience in both the Premier League and Europe, and would need no bedding-in period at Newcastle. That’s probably one of Kevin Keegan’s requirements for players coming to the club in during the summer transfer window. We want to start next season very well and hit the ground running, hopefully still in the Premier league.

Riise, who stands 6’1″ tall, has played 329 times for Liverpool scoring 31 goals. He has also played 68 games for his country, Norway, scoring 7 goals. As we said earlier, Riise can also play on the left wing, and has a tremendous left foot with which he has scored some classic goals.

What do you think?

…and we (the norwegian supporters) might read some more positive stuff about Newcastle in Norway (norwegian press loves their norwegian sports heros). I would love to have a norwegian in black and white, if he’s good enough, and I think Riise is.

To be honest, right now I don’t give f**k where they’re from, as long as we win!!!

I totally agree Karl, the Norwegian press loves our sports heroes, but all they write about Newcastle is total, and utter shit, kind of like Daily Mail and those fu**ers. So yeah, if we got a Norwegian player, I think that would stop, at least in some extent.

And I think Riise is good enough for us, lets just see what happens. 🙂

Very good second half last night, showed some of our quality. But I don’t understand why some rate Butt as high as they do, his passing percent was terrible, specially for the long distant passes. But he is a workhorse, that’s for sure. I was very convinced by Martins’ display, out of his normal position , he did really great.

Please no, this guy is dipping and we should look for players who are on the rise. I DONT WANT TOP FOUR REJECTS, his wages will be immense and their are better left backs around

Wayne Bridge would be a better choice than Riise, I totally agree. He has been in our sights for a very long time, and it would be good to get a man of his quality.

no thanks another player whos been there done it an got the t shirt at a bigger club than ours.

    another smith/butt/owen/duff/geremi.

id rather sign a youn gand hungry player from europe and give enrique a chance to play regurly.

i still believe that sorting out our cm will see enrique improve as a decent cm will show for the ball when he looks inside for a cm to pass to butt/barton/geremi rarely even get clsoe enough to let enrique play a square ball. and unlike some nufc players hes not daft enought to play a 15yrd square pass to a cm with no pace, that would allow any half decent opo cm with pace to intercept. thats why he always aims chipped balls at the forward its less risk than a square pass to our cm.

Please people, extend your sights beyond the premier league, wayne bridge is good but again his wages will be sky high and he is always injured. we should look at up and coming players in the lower leagues and abroad.

Bridge, shorey or lambe for left back.Enrique looked good on monday but if keegan is going for left back it would be one of the above for me.
We have tozer, kadar and ramage who can play there so not really a big problem at the mo.Hope we sign arshavin, gomis(new drogba cant be bad), bridge and top class def mid.

what is it with all this top 4 reject rubbish??

Ruud van nistelrooy (or how ever you spell it) is technically going by that label a top 4 reject who now plays for real madrid as in heinze. bentlet who everyone wants us to sign (and i agree) is also a top 4 reject, these are the top clubs in the country so why do we think that their players will be worse than ones signed from smaller clubs?? yes some have come in with the wrong attitude, but equally in the past we have signed players from smaller clubs who then dont put in the effort as they think they have made it!! lets look at each player individually not what club the play for.

fair enough point bosck, but when i say top four rejects i mean players who are either on the dip, or on the treatment table all the time. bridge and risse both tick at least one box

He’s not good, I can’t understand why anyone would want us to sign him. He’s slow, not defensively sound, can’t beat players and to top it off he’s a ginger. The only plus would be that he can belt a ball. With Enrique adapting to the british style of play and looking better as the weeks go on why buy someone who will expect to start in his position. I agree we need cover but my idea of cover would not be a player on the wages Riise would expect. As for playing him left wing, personally I think it would be a disaster. All Riise does is knock the ball past his man and try and run past him and pick it back up but he’s so sluggish he very rarely manages it. If we were after a left winger like that we should have gone after Downing.

not sure about ur name, but I agree with you about risse nazareth. He is on the dip and will want too much in wages. However, i believe downing is overrated and overpriced for someone who can only play left wing. Also, there are wingers who are equally as good, and probably cheaper out there who aren’t so one dimensional.

vicente sanchez from schalke is a good example of this.

    riise
    mcgeady
    sidwell
    arshevin
    pandev
    gomis
