Oba Martins – We Can’t Relax Tomorrow

It’s a full 10 games since Oba Martins last found the net, and we are hoping he can break that bad run tomorrow. We are also hoping Newcastle bad run, 13 league games without a win, will also come to an end at 5 PM local time tomorrow.

Oba Martins – 10 games since he scored

Oba spoke the the Newcastle Evening Chronicle today:

“I am looking forward to a good night’s sleep if we do beat Fulham.” “Before the game, though, we can’t relax.”

“Wins are what we need and this is a great chance to get one.” “It was a good performance and we wanted three points.

“We will continue to try to do well in our game with Fulham.”

Even though it’s been 10 games since Oba scored, it is not getting the Nigerian too worried, and of course he almost broke the cross-bar at Liverpool a couple of weeks ago, and that was from 40 yards.

Oba continued:

“I know I came close against Birmingham but I’ll keep working hard and maybe a chance will come and change that.” “I’m happy with my game since I have been back involved in the last few games.”

“It has been very difficult for the team but you can feel it changing.” “We know if we keep the ball and play our football against Fulham we are the better team.”

“Fulham is a very big game.” “Even though we have got the point against Birmingham we can’t relax.” “We just need to keep on doing what we did against Birmingham – we’ve just got to keep going.”

Tomorrow would be a great time for Oba to score because we’ve been missing those somersaults. If Martins does score tomorrow he might even treat us to a couple somersaults, because we know there’ll be tremendous excitement in the ground.

If Michael Owen and Mark Viduka can also chip in with a goal, that would almost ensure a win, and it would also start to make our goal difference look a little better – which is what we need.

A win tomorrow is a must and anything else will be a huge disappointment.

Comments welcome.

You are right on goal difference. The two heavy losses against Man U did not help but if players like Martins and Vuduka start scoring all that could change.

The worst thing is to go down on goal difference but I hope it does not come to that.

Oba is our best striker and if they don’t play him, then there have to be issues behind the scene. There is no reason why he shouldn’t start. The longer he’s on the pitch, the more likely he is to score. This seems to be the theory for Owen, so it should be extended to Oba.

    Watch this with sound:

If this doesn’t put you in a better frame of mind before tomorrow’s game you don’t deserve to call yourself a fan.

Also provides a perfect reminder that things could be worse… you could be a mackem.

If we can’t beat Fulham and go 14 league games without a win, KK can say all he likes but we would deserve to be relegated. Fulham is the easiest game we have left. With hindsight the 0 0 draw with Bolton (Keegan’s first game) could prove pivotal to our season if we don’t beat Fulham. The Cottagers have gone 31 away games without a win. Their luck has to change some time and NUFC are the ultimate fall guys. NO SMITH PLEASE and NZOG FOR BARTON and we should win comfortably. But who knows with this team of ours.

were gonna smash fulham tommorow !!
personnaly i dont think it had hit home what kind of situation we are in to the players untill recently . there finally starting to fear for their reputations which i think brings out good performances .

cant wait to see oba running at fulham , i got a feeling we are going to see a goal of the month contender tommorow from oba !!
cant decide if i want a 30 yeard screamer , an overhead kick one of those lovely goals he got in his nigeria debut .

I really have a fear of the team that KK will turn out tomorrow.I only hope he picks the players on form and not past reputations.Use your head Kevin dont pick the team with your heart. The Smiths and Bartons etc have had their chance and failed They talk a good game but as for delivering….. sick of waiting

oba HAS to start! he is the only real threat i can see at the moment to be honest. stick with almost same team as monday and go for the whole 90 munutes instead of starting to wark after half time.

gone 2-1 toon, owen and martins
