Keegan – Lots To Build On At Newcastle

Some more good words form Kevin Keegan this morning on the Fulham game and the Newcastle United club itself.

Kevin Keegan – some good characters at the club

Kevin talked to Luke Edwards of the Journal:

“The Fulham game is a big game, it’s the next game and the one we can affect. You can have regrets and disappointments but this one is the big one now.”

“This one we have to build and start getting the club into winning ways. That can be contagious. When you lose games like we have, that can be contagious too.”

“If you have been around Newcastle it is just the way it is, the way it has always been. It won’t go away.” “When you turn it around and do well you get the same swing and ferocity the other way. You win a few games and you are going to win the league.”

“We find ourselves in a place we shouldn’t be with our resources, but there is plenty to build on here. Lots of people who care and some good characters. We have things to put right.”

If we can survive this season, we think Chris Mort, Mike Ashley, Kevin Keegan and Dennis Wise together, will ensure we get some really good players in during the summer.

Think of two different sets of players – those immediately who are brought in for the first team, and then 4-5 youngsters, with the quality we brought to the club last January, who will mature into first team players within 2-3 seasons.

It’s been a very trying season for all Newcastle fans, but a win today against Fulham, and we can afford to look forward just a little bit, and we think next season will be totally different to this one.

We hope next season will be totally different to this one. 😀

Coimments very welcome.

You have to hand it to Kev, after a run of abysmal results he just keeps bouncing back.

a win today does NOT mean we are safe, it just means we have breathing space, we need two more wins to be safe

You know what Leo this is gonna sound weird but i would rather we secured our safety in the next three games and then the players went back to their usual low level of performance. I say this because i am scared that if the players play well until the season ends then kk is gonna end up keeping some of the inconsistent wasters at the club come summer. i would rather he sees their true colours in the last 4 or 5 games then gets rid.

Just thought I’d mention I’m watching Australia v Singapore live and Troisi is starting. The kid is going to be a very good player. Our national team manager Pim Verbeek has suggested to him that a move in the summer may be a good option to get first team football. I understand our position is precarious at the moment but it would be very disppointing to lose an exciting young talent. He’s put in 3 good crosses and one pile driver from just outside the box which was saved…

Jimmy Greaves has been at it again:

“Newcastle won the FA Cup in 1951 with jackie milburn… but since then theyve done bugger all”

He left out the 52 & 55 FA Cup wins, The 69 Fairs Cup Win, The 3 FA Cup Finals 74, 98 & 99, The league Cup final 76, The 2nd Division title in 64, The 1st Division title in 93, The runners up spots in the league in 96 & 97, The 3 times qualification for the champions league, The other premier league finishes 3rd twice, 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th and Even our Glorious Intertoto Cup win last season or legendary Texaco cup triumphs in the 70s.

Mustn’t have been sober through all that James.

Jeff Stelling of Sky Sports fame says Fulham will win 2-1 today, He also had us winning Bolton and Boro 3-0 apiece this guy is a reliable source if ever i saw one.

P.S. I only buy the sun because my Sister likes the TV mag, Its the only worthwhile thing they print.

One thing i thought was interesting that i saw was this about us buying Michael Dawson in the summer.

Maybe offer N’Zogbia (If he wents to go to london) and about £10M for Dawson and Lennon (Who Ramos’ apparently wants rid of)
As Spurs desperately need a left winger and we need another right winger and another centre half.

However I could not disagree more about Dawson – what a complete waste of space. He was in charge in the absence of Woodgate and King and they were absolute cack in defence all last season and first half of this season. I used to think he had real promise, but I’d rather have ANY of our current crop of defenders (OK maybe not Carr or Rozenhal) ahead of Dawson.

I know Dawson has been poor, but i think he has enough quality, He will hit form again. The same with Taylor if we give him a break between probably after todays match and the end of the season, giving Diatta a fair Chance at CB and give Ramage a chance at Full back if Beye or Enrique get an injury/suspension as that Keeps Carr away from the team full stop and on him West Ham want to sign him in the summer, Poor sods!!!

Lennon is pure crap. Im not surprised Ramos wants to get rid of him. He is quick, but defenders have him in their pocket. He’s got nothing special, just pace… and his final ball is awful so often.

Lennon is better tha Milner. if Ramos wants rid of him, he would improve our squad. The Zog can go, he doesnt seem to care about the Toon at all. shame as u thought he’d be a legend for us.

and Dawson wouldnt really improve our squad. rather than collecting centre backs, let’s get quality.

Just having a good old think about what we have lacked in our squad this season:

    Height and power
    Accurate passing
    Quality retention of the ball

So pretty much everything, most of our problems stem from the midfield, as our strikers get no quality service and our defense get no cover or help as we cannot retain the ball and put un needed pressure on our centre backs.

Maybe this sort of midfield would solve most of our problems:

    Arshavin Muamba Carrick Downing

Arshavin: plays in a minor league, has spoken of his desire to join us and can play anywhere across the midfield and even up front.

Muamba: Really has looked the part for me this season, Massively built but quick, with decent feet, wins most tackles and can drive the team on.

Carrick: My dream signing, Great passing ability with both feet, Great shooting from long range and covers the defense really well, I think he may be available if Man Utd sign Veloso as is likely and he is a geordie boy and lifelong toon fan.

Downing: Another one of my personal favourite players, Great delivery with both feet (Mostly left), Again quality shooting from range, scores a fair few from out wide and has created more goals this season than all our 4 wingers put together, Also lethal from Set pieces also a kid from the north east (Yorkshire) so wouldnt have trouble settling in the area. I know he signed a new contract but i think they would take the money as Johnson is also a good left winger, plus Alves has flopped and they may need to spend big on a striker, Also Southgate is a big Shola and Duff fan so we could offer those pair and money.

I agree that we need a good clear out all over, But with a more creative midfield that was less wasteful with the ball we would have scored many more with strikers like Martins, Owen, Viduka and even Ameobi who have all scored enough in this league to suggest that.

And would have conceded a lot less because we do have some quality defenders Faye, Beye, Taylor, Enrique, Cacapa and even Ramage have enough in them to have kept more clean sheets especially with the 2 quality keepers we have, We put far too much pressure on our back 4 with our constant profligacy when in possession.

What do you lot think ?

Have to agree – at Birmingham the amount of times the back four we’re left flat with 3-6 Birmingham players flying at them, all in acres of space, was lethal.

A total disgrace when combined with the amount of times that the front three broke with some pace and there was no Newcastle midfielder running in for the next half an hour or so!!!!

Newcastle Cannot Let Loadz of players go in the summer.. because then we will have to bring in loadz of new faces.. and chances are same as last summer they wont gel as a team and next season will be a complete write off aswell..

KK needs to sit down with wise, mort and ashley and discuss key positions he needs strengthening then go out before the transfer window opens.. get deals sorted .. so they can be in newcastle as soon as the window opens

this will give KK A Month And a Half To Mould The Team!!

I Just Hope We Win Today..!!

my thoughts ecko yours benn… big peav we can not have a ‘massive cull in the summer’ or we wouldn’t have a squad, we need additional players to strengthen the squad we’ve got. everyone keeps talking about 8-10 new players? be realistic that won’t happen, we need a little depth and cover around the pitch so our bench can also be strong etc ( for when our annual injury crisis comes along:p ) we got rid of a hell of alot of dead wood when bsa came in, 1 thing i think he did well and yeah a few more like carr should be shown the door but the reality is the squad we have now we still be the heart of the team come next season. hmm…shouldn’t of used the term heart perhaps has made me worried…!
