Diatta Still Lacking Match Fitness – Keegan

Lamine Diatta still seems to be a couple of Reserve team games away from full match fitness, but Lamine is getting closer to forcing his way into the first-team at Newcastle United.

Lamine Diatta – couple of games away form full match fitness

The Senegal captain was not included in the squad for the Fulham game yesterday, because Keegan thinks he is still short of match fitness.

Diatta last played in the African Cup Of Nations almost two months ago. However, Keegan does not believe the Dakar-born player– is far away from his match day squad.

Keegan talked to the Shield’s Gazette about Diatta yesterday:

“He’s got something to contribute, otherwise I wouldn’t have signed him.” “He’s not in the squad for Fulham. I just felt he needed a couple more reserve games.”

“He trains very professionally, and we’re just working on his match fitness now. I thought he played very well on Tuesday, and he’ll get a run out for the reserves next week.”

“It’s just his match fitness that needs working on, as he’s not played a game for some weeks now.”

With Peter Ramage now back from injury and Faye being preferred at center-back rather than central defensive midfield there are lot of central defenders now fighting for a first team start. Now whether they are all good enough for Newcastle, that’s another question.

We have Faye, Taylor, Ramage, Cacapa, Edgar and Diatta all fighting for a first team start. And when Habib Beye’s played at center-back he’s looked very good indeed.

What does this tell us? We’ll have to unload some of these in the summer, and bring in one new dominant center-back. We think Ramage and Cacapa may well go during the summer, and Michael Dawson from Spurs may come in.

Then we’ll have Faye, Taylor, Edgar, Diatta and Dawson fighting it out. And remember Edgar is still just 20 years old, and got a late run-out yesterday with the first team yesterday, for the first time this season.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

We dont need a dominant CB we need a sweeper who can sit deeper to let taylor or faye attack the high balls as they like to do and go and make the tackles leaving the sweeper to intercept crosses and through balls

GONZALO RODRIGUEZ…Sod Gary Cahill your not the man i thought you were

Ramage wont be going he will be a decent utility man mostly playing as Right back if Beye is absent…

Cacapa on the other hand can shut the door on his way out and I would volunteer to kidnap Stephen Carr and Dump him in the Irish Sea with house bricks tied to his limbs.

did I read that correctly? Dawson!! DAWSON!!! OMG!! Think you’re right about Ramage and Cacapa might have to leave. Don’t forget as well as young Edgar we also have a young star on our hands with Kadar.

Dawson is class when partnered with an English CB, mostly awful when paired with a foreign…same like Taylor. Dawson and Taylor could be a good partnership.

The magic of KK is well at work before he came we needed:
    1 RB
    2 CB
    1 LB
    1 RM
    2 CM
    1 LM
    2 CF

Now with the style of football that the lads are comfortable with and improvement in some of our underachievers and the continuing improvement we will see in some of our younger lads.

    We probably need:
    1 CB
    1 LB
    1 RM
    1 CM
    1 LM

I would like to see another CB at Newcastle next season, As i dont think that Diatta is anything other than a short term. We have Taylor and Edgar as long term CBs and as Faye is 30 now and Kadar, Tozer and Ramage will be seen more as full backs we need a long term Class partner for Taylor.

    My Suggestion = Gonzalo Rodriguez.

The need for a Left Back is down to the fact that Enrique maybe injured and we havent any experienced cover.

    My Suggestion = Wayne Bridge

The same with the Right Wing position as Milner is our only available out and out right winger and at the moment we lack his pace and invension and even though he set up the goals yesterday Geremi doesnt cut it for me.

    My suggestion = Andrei Arshavin

I think that Barton and Butts revival and Emres abilities will be much appreciated by KK who tried to sign him for Man City hence we need 1 Central Midfielder.

    My Suggestion = Michael Carrick

I think that Duff has been a dissapointment and N’Zogbia will probably still want to leave in the summer to move to London, So even if we lose both of those we have Milner, Emre and Arshavin if we sign him, I would have liked us to have given Alan O’Brien a chance before he moved on as i liked him when i saw him play for Ireland.

    My Suggesstion = Stewart Downing

I would like another Striker but Kev will keep Oba, Owen , Viduka, Carroll and sadly Smith.

Ramage will be back up to Beye at Right back as KK will give him another contract because he will love his commitment and passion for the club and his versatility.

What do you lads think ??

i think we need a sweeper type player myself, of the carvalho mould. to play along side a taylor or faye, if we play two big bulky cb’s like faye there’d be a real lack of pace and ability to track opposition forwards movement.

I know hes dirt, but i think he i just what we need scores a few from midfield, sets up loads and great from set pieces plus he would settle quickly as he would enjoy some scenery instead of industrial estates and ethel austins

    CB = Gary Cahill

    LB/RB/RM/LM= Adriano (A MUST SIGN!)

    CM/DM = Lucas Biglia

    LM/RM = Vicente Sanchez

    RM/LM = Adel Taarabt

All of these players are realistic if the right money is offered

We could get all of these players for £30.000.000 maximum

Arsenal have once again proved that without a good defence you cannot win the league. Only they could have a 5 point lead and within 5 games be behind by 6 points, pathetic, lol!

I don`t think we need Dawson. We need a dominating center back that can work with Taylor.
