Newcastle fans have had little to celebrate this season, so it wasn’t that surprising to see the big smiles on the Geordie faces on Saturday afternoon at 5:00 pm, after the team had recorded their first league victory in over 3 months.
Newcastle fans – sold-out crowd on Saturday
But the smiles were that of relief more than anything else. Having now taken a good 4 points off Birmingham and Fulham, two teams below us in the league, Newcastle have pulled themselves 6 points clear of the drop zone with just 7 games remaining.
One person who seemed over the moon at the final whistle was owner Mike Ashley who said yesterday:
“I just can’t wait to get to the summer and then sit down and talk with Kevin about what we need to take the club forward,”
We’re certain both Mike Ashley and Chris Mort will look at the summer transfer window as being crucial to Newcastle becoming a more potent force next season in the PL. We have some good players at the club already, and they are at least starting to show they have some class. But some players like Carr, Rozehnal and Ameobi are just not good enough, and will be moved on.
Manager Keegan is using Michael Owen is a deep lying position, which Michael seems to like, and he’s certainly been very effective there in th last two games.
Kevin talked about Michael’s new position:
“We’ve played him there because he’s the one player at the club who we know can keep the ball, see a pass and know when to release the ball,”
The Newcastle fans’ attitudes will rise dramatically if we can register a few good wins through the end of season, and that starts at Tottenham next Saturday, where we must think we can get all 3 points, and then go for it.
