Manager Kevin Keegan has said the experience and leadership of Michael Owen, Nicky Butt and Geremi have been key to knitting the Newcastle team together in the last few games.
Geremi – helped to knit the team together with his experience
Kevin was talking initially about Nicky Butt, but then mentioned both Michael and Geremi as the experienced players who have stepped up to the plate in recent weeks, and played really well when it was most needed.
Kevin said:
“What you get with Nicky is leadership and experience. He’s been there, done it and that is an assurance almost. When you see him in your team and you talk to him, you’re not having to explain how the game is or what’s going to happen out there.”
“You’re more or less having a conversation with someone who knows what’s at stake. He’s been excellent. He’s like Michael Owen, he’s not one of those who shouts or bawls.”
“But I see those two and Geremi, with all his contacts with the French guys, as the three players who have started to knit things together as a club.â€
We would also add a number of players to those three. Viduka has been great these last two games and Steve Harper in goal has been as steady as a rock. Faye has also been excellent although he was at fault for the Birmingham City goal.
We said a few weeks ago if we were to survive then some of our players would need to step forward, and certainly in the last two games many players have started to play at their best, which is great to see.
But we have to keep that form up tomorrow, since we still need a number of points to escape the relegation threat, which is still real.
Comments very welcome.

Comment #1Geremi played a very good game last week. I hope he can continue his form cause everybody needs to play at 100% to get a result tomorrow. I believe in a good result (even in 3 points).

Comment #2im not so sure about 3 points tomorrow. The team we’re up against can score 4 againts chelsea. Equally leaky against us Im not so sure.
A draw would be good enough

Comment #3I’m happy to hear this news that these guys are bringing the team together. I’m proud of Geremi, this is his first season, missing a month or so to ANC. But his influence is so huge. Keep up the good work!

Comment #5it would be good if geremi works his arse off and improves his set piece acuacy that he can try and keep milner out of the team, which will give james some drive to improve his game.
as for the knitting, so now we know what they have been doing instead of training

Comment #6I dont think Geremi has played well at all even though he had set up the two goals on saturday from the start of the season to now.
We need a proper Right-Winger to add competition for Milner (SWP)

Comment #7I hope that next season Harper is given a proper chance, as he has been steady and I believe he’s our best keeper. Given might not be happy on sidelines but then we’d see how loyal he is!
