Nicky Butt scored an equalizer just before half time at White Hart Lane this afternoon, and it was the start of a tremendous Newcastle display in the second half.

Second half goals from Geremi, Michael Owen and Obafemi Martins sealed the victory today and finally did our goal difference some good. 
After the game this afternoon Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan was delighted with the performance of all his players.
Kevin talked to Sky Sports after the game::
“I’m obviously delighted. The performance was terrific.”
“We went a goal down even though we were the better team. The team believed chances would come,”
“We have players who know where the back of the net is. I said to the team at half-time the best team is drawing and it’s not Tottenham. There wasn’t a weak link in the team today. Everyone played a part.”
“We outplayed them and they’re a very, very good side. The goalkeeper’s made at least two world class saves. Apart from their goal I can’t remember Harper having a save to make. The header was superb.”
“Faye was outstanding today. We had 11 leaders out there today.”
“Nicky doesn’t get many goals. It was a vital goal for us. He was tremendous. I thought Joey Barton was also superb today.”
Keegan has transformed Newcastle into an attacking outfit and Owen, Martins and Viduka are very dangerous as they proved again this afternoon.
Keegan has said consistently that although the squad is small, it is full of talent.
Kevin is starting to be proved right in that assessment, and maybe 5 new players in the summer can turn this team into something to really watch next season.
We cannot wait.

Butt MOM. what a display from the lad. confident, composed, and knew where every ball was coming from. great.
Martins, Owen and Barton were also fantastic. I’m walking in a Keegan wonderland!!!!!!!!!!

the travelling support need to take credit today aswell. they didnt stop singing for 90 minutes, and come 60 minutes, they were the only ones to be heard. well done to those lads.

It was a good performance. I believe everyone is looking for a win against Reading and we should try to do that. Consistency is very important if we are going to challenge for anything next season.
It’s not good enough to have some wins to secure survival. We need more to fight for trophies. Everyone expect the likes of MU, Arsenal and Chelsea to win their games, no matter home or away. We should aim to be the same. Going for win away from home. Under SA, we most likely playing for draw except games he is most confident of, that was taking on Bolton on the first day.
As KK mentioned, we are not safe yet. 2 more wins and we shall be fine. At this moment, still a lot of hard work to do.

best thing to come out of the last couple of weeks is the emergence of a midfield, yes i said it, we actually have a midfield! butt & barton have been playing brill! something i neverthought id say - some great passes by barton, amazing defending by butt (a nice goal) and finally there is a link between the midfield and our obvious strike talent - even geremi has been having a good old go, chipping in with a goal today, however he really REALLY should learn how put in a cross past the first man! - butt, barton and geremi - who would have thought that would have been a stable midfield a month ago - and who said keegan wasn’t a tacitian

NUFC have been playing with 10 men all season. It is no coincidence that we are playing much better without SMITH. Sell him to Hartlepool Reserves for two bob.

Boys played magnificently today. So proud I am. I’ve been SCREAMING for a 4-3-3 all year, and it was great to see the boss (Mike Ashley) go out and get someone who could utilize all of our assests. We’ve always been weak in the midfield and strong in the strike force but we chose to not use 3 strikers (which made no sense). King Kev came in and righted and unjust wrong.
And Finally lets give some love to Mike Ashley for this win, its always great to see him happy and smiling. The happier Mike Ashley is the less southern trash we’ve gotta endure about him selling our club.

Anybody know why Owen come off?
It was tactical right, not an injury issue? I assumed it was just that Owen was a bit knackered after running as much as he had, plus playing for England at midweek. All this talk about Owen finally stringing together a good run of matches has me nervous that there’s something lurking just around the corner.

Reb - Only reason Owen came off was because he was knackered. He’d covered every blade of grass and KK wanted a fresh pair of legs to run the ball into the corner flags, which is what Carroll did.
No injury from Owen, just another masterclass display in how to lead a team on the field. Captain Fantastic in every sense of the word

Ta, James! I’m just a bit nervous…Owen’s not known for stringing 16 matches together (touch wood). Good to see Carroll getting a brief run-out, good for the young lads confidence and all to get a run out, and the game was already safe so if he had fluffed a chance it wouldn’t haunt him or anything.

What a game. I was going crazy after the Owen and Martins’ goals… Because well, to be honest, a Newcastle goal is one we haven’t seen in a while.
Nicky Butt did have an amazing game… and he’s been doing great for the last few games. I’ve changed my mind about taking him out in the summer… if he can continuously play well. Not necessarily amazing… just well.
Alan Smith really does run around like a headless chicken. Usually bleached turd. I saw two dumb mistakes he did - he unexpectedly threw a pass at Barton, who was around two yards away. Barton didn’t expect it, and it bounced off his foot - Smith’s fault. Another one was when he was running alongside a Tottenham player, set to tackle him… then he jus’ stopped. What is wrong with this guy?!
