With their great 4-1 win at Tottenham today Newcastle jumped up to 12th place ahead of Middlesbrough.

It’s difficult to see how Newcastle can be relegated now, on the form they showed today - and that was away from home in London.
Middlesbrough were beaten by Chelsea 1-0 today, so Newcastle’s fabulous win means we leapfrog our Teesside neighbors and also go ahead of Wearside neighbors Sunderland, who have also won their last two league games.

If we can beat Reading next Saturday we should really be completely safe of relegation, but we need to continue this excellent form as a prelude to next season.
One thing that is increasingly clear is that the summer transfer window is going to be very exciting for Newcastle fans, because it looks like the squad we have is as good as Kevin had said it is.
Small but good.
It also looks like Kevin is starting to weave his magic again at the club, when the team can go to any stadium in the country and have the courage to go for the win - which is just exactly what they did today.

Agreed, we need to increase the headcount by 5-6 which will give us the strength in depth which we are currently lacking.

optimistic i would say 3vs reading 1 vs pompey 3vs sunderland 1vs west ham 1vs chelsea 1vs everton. would leave us on 45 points. if we fnish on 40+ fair play to keegan. thats what he said was his aim

I think we can take Hammers. They’ve been poor and have nothing to play for at this point. We’ve got a point to prove. The players still have a lot to prove. On guts alone we can win quite a few of the remaining fixtures.

Closing stages of the game and younf Carroll showed what a great footballe head hes got, taken it into the corner and holding off the challenge of 2 spurs defenders, Shearer would have been proud of him.
Thought the whole team played well today, especially Butt and barton who ran midfield today

Lovely stuff, what a day, nothing can spoil my mood because not only did we win but I won more then a wee bit of money on a Cork and Tyrone victory. Didn’t bet on a Newcastle win, should have but didn’t. Ah well, not a bad days work at the office. If it keeps going like that we might actually see some sun in the sky. What a day.

This was without want-away-French-sulker N’Zogbia, Milner, Emre, Duff, Given, Cacapa to name a few - I thought it was our best performance since Bolton at the Reebok or Arsenal at St James’ - Barton and Butt were brilliant in midfield, the movement from our 3 strikers was great and the defence looked something like too, all round a cracking performance, maybe Charles will reconsider wanting to join the Yids after that performance!
I think if we get a young Nicky Butt type player in, a replacement big striker for Viduka and a top class center back we will be going in the right direction, plus a couple more decent players, Bullard for instance the furure could be bright without getting too carried away.

reading is always a tough game i don’t know why… both reading and us are close to relegation spot so it’s going to be tougher than tottenham

No doubt, we played not an erratic game, but a composed sensible football. Keegan got the tactics right today. We actually looked comfortable in defense today and that is saying something. Character to come back and invention in going forward. Still plenty of work to be done in terms of set pieces.
Butt and Barton both demonstrated class and Butt was all over. Hard tackles in the midfield and the extra man in defense.
Well done to the team, management and the fans.

minimum we are going to get 7 points. which is good enough i think. that’s my most pessimistic view.

I reckon another 12 points. We are on a roll and King Kev’s influence is starting to take hold. I saw the game live on tv in greece and i m so proud of those men, ney, LIONS on that pitch today playing with pride and passion and for eachother. THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING.
Look at the change in attitude, the attacking formations, marginalising the dead wood and idlers. Thats Kev.
