Nicky Butt has been talking today to the Newcastle Journal.
Nicky Butt – great all round midfield display on Sunday
Nicky talked to the Journal this morning:
“When you have three players in your side like Obafemi Martins, Michael Owen and Mark Viduka you have confidence that you are going to be able to hurt any team,â€
“It’s our job in midfield to give them the platform to do their stuff and I think we’ve been able to do that. It’s our job to work hard and do the ugly side of the game, if you like, and that’s something I’ve been doing all my career.â€
“They are the flair players, they are paid to score goals, we’re paid to back them up and make sure they have enough of the ball to be able to do that. Geremi and I are both experienced players, but I think Joey Barton has been fantastic as well in the last couple of games.”
“He’s not had the easiest start to his Newcastle career but he is showing what ability he has got.â€
Now 33 years old, Nicky Butt knows he has just a few seasons left as a player, but they are years he is starting to look forward to. This is the new Kevin Keegan era at Newcastle, and Nicky can certainly do a great job for the club over the next two seasons.
We think Nicky knows that, and he has been one of the players that have stood up to be counted in these torrid times, along with Michael Owen, Geremi and Abdoulaye Faye.
They are the leaders of this new Keegan team still under construction at Newcastle.
