Kevin Keegan has been talking about our unique striker Oba Martins, and what he told the Nigerian at half time in the game against Spurs on Sunday.
Oba Martins – run at the Spurs defense in the second half – wow
Keegan says he told the striker at White Hart Lane to be more direct, and Martins took note as he scored his eighth goal of the season, and the best goal of the game on Sunday.
Keegan told the Evening Chronicle today:
“I just said to Oba at half- time: ‘With your ability, when you get the ball turn and run at people’.â€
“I said: ‘Don’t pass it to someone and try and play a one-two – turn and run at people’. In the second half when he did that I just said ‘wow’.â€
“Mark Viduka is different from anyone in the Premiership and so is Martins, while Michael Owen is an outstanding player.â€
“If you have got those three in the opposing half and trying to win you something, it doesn’t half give the ones behind them some confidence, even if they have conceded a goal because they now know that there are goals in us.â€
“It’s not the end of the world if we concede the first goal like we did at Birmingham City and again against Spurs on Sunday because we now have the players and the system to put things right at the other end.â€
Oba is certainly an exciting player to watch and someone no doubt Tottenham, and other sides, would love to sign in the summer.
But there’s just no chance of that with Oba and Michael Owen starting in the line-up together these days. Along with Mark Viduka, our best three strikers are all starting and playing very well together.
No wonder we scored 4 on Sunday, and we look forward to a lot more goals from the three of them before the end of this season.
