Man City’s £5M-rated captain Richard Dunne is reportedly wanted by Newcastle United.
Richard Dunne – could Keegan entice him to Newcastle?
We had thought earlier in the season that Dunne may be a good acquisition for Newcastle since he’s been playing really well over the last three seasons at Manchester
The defender’s contract talks on hold at Eastlands and we’re not sure if there’s a problem there or whether the contract will simply be sorted out in the summer.
But Dunne is a proven Premiership player and could fit right into Newcastle central defensive position and give us some stability.
Dunne is a key player under new City manager Sven Goran Eriksson and the Swede wants to get his first Premier League season behind him before dealing with player negotiations.
Eriksson told the Manchester City web site today:
“He has a contract for one more year so it is not a pressing problem. We don’t want to lose him and I am quite sure he wants to stay here”
Keegan knows all about the Republic of Ireland star Dunne since he managed Dunne while at City. At that time Dunne was not the dedicated professional he has become but Kevin put him on the right track.
Newcastle’s defense has again been a problem this season and Keegan’s first priority in the summer is to improve the defense with the acquisition of a left back and a center-back.
What do you think?
Comments very welcome.

Comment #41Garay would be class, but how about Veloso too (seeing as we’re being ambitious) to provide that cover at LB. It would be a bit like signing Barry from Villa with the added bonus of being younger and able to cover at CB as well.

Comment #42i am surprised we are talking about Europe next year and are still happy linked with a player like dunne. With all due respect , dunne might be a good player on a day , but the reason why mancity had a terrific defense in the start of the season was the man next to him i.e MICAH RICHARDS. i saw dunne on tv against birmingham, and oh boy he was horrible.
Signing players like dunne , or brown for that matter , would no improve our squad so much that we can think of top 6 next season.
And kev spoke about defenders with flair , both dont fit the bill !

Comment #48dunne is not worth the transfer money nor the energy. he is old and stuck in his citeh ways. why even entertain the distruction of what keggy is trying to accomplish. if we buy old people then we should consider bridge, wes, hyppia, finnan etc. definitely not dunne. sven can keep his entire team. citeh players not good enough for newcastle.

Comment #50I think Garay has signed a pre-contract with Barcelona.
Id like to see Blaszczykowski of Dortmund. He’s looking a good little player. Better than the Lennon option.

Comment #51Tom Toon…He was about to sign a pre-contract but Racing stopped the deal cause Barca don’t wan’t to pay the full sum, instead they wanted Garay in 3 instalments.
I’m sure if KK want him 9 mill pounds or even 10 mill will definetely be more than enough to convince a team like Racing to seal the deal.
Liverpool paid 7 mill for Skrtel and got an excellent deal considering that Skrtel was completely anonimous comparing to Garay.

Comment #52Toooooon….Don’t give me that cr.p about premiership experience. If you’re good then you’re good to play in any league especialy if you play in the defence.
Vidic,Skrtel,Agger,Corluka,Sagna,Alex etc.
You just need to know who to buy.

Comment #53if everyone stuck to buying players with premierleague experience, we of never seen the likes on ronaldo, henry, cantona, bergkamp, zola, vieira, albert, asprilla or ginola in our league

Comment #54If we’ve a chance to buy the wee fella we should grab it with our 2 hands. He’s amazing. He’s really come into form in the last few seasons and while it’s not noticeable that much at City, it’s clear at the Irish games. Between him and Shay Given and I mean just the 2 of them they’ve won Ireland countless of matches it’s always one of them who wins MOTM. He’s a great defender and we’re in no situation to turn him down either. He’s a brilliant wee defender.

Comment #56Any suggestion of buying one or two Man City players would have me wondering if Owen was part of the deal, there is a lot of rumour that wont go away surrounding Owen, Cisse and Manchester City.

Comment #59I take it no one picked up on my Edgar comment, I was having a little dig at all of the suggestions that we go out and spend millions on a player we don’t need as we may already have him. 😉

Comment #60bill ive sed many times b4 that edgar should be given a chance he looked very good last season and basically nullified ronaldo at st james at his wrong position of LB.
seems a great prospect and should be given more chances in the 1st team.

Comment #61irish_al: I’m sorry mate but none of those defenders you mentioned are realistic. We should just put Smith back there and we should be allright . 🙂 lol
