Newcastle haven’t been at their best in the first half but they are two goals up thanks to two beautifully taken goals by Martins and Owen.
Newcastle got off to a bit of a shaky start this afternoon, when Harper was late to a cross in the first minute but the ball was headed over the bar.
Edgar fouled Hunt twice out on the right wing and gave away two dangerous free kicks but after that David settled down and looked good. The ever impressive Abdoulaye Faye, who was having another fine and solid game at the heart of Newcastle’s defense, was working well with Edgar after the first 10 minutes or so.
Reading had a lot of position in the first 30 minutes but they didn’t look to have any cutting edge.
But after 18 minutes Oba Martins showed them how to score when he went through on his own on the left and cleverly avoided goalkeeper Hahnemann, and then coolly put the ball past the goalkeeper and into the net. A great goal by the confident Martins.
Newcastle were starting to play more of their smooth play as Butt started to get a grip in the center of midfield and then after 36 minutes Owen missed a good chance when Viduka stepped over the ball but Owen put the ball over the bar from just 8 yards. It was a chance Owen would usually take.
But Michael Owen was not to be denied and he scored after 43 minutes following a great through ball by the impressive Habib Beye and he beautifully slotted the ball home to put Newcastle 2-0 up.
There wasn’t much between the two teams other than the Newcastle strikers know how to put the ball in the net.
We look for Newcastle to put on the pressure even more in the second half. Reading are a good looking and hard working side, but they don’t have the cutting edge that Newcastle have.
We feel more goals are there for the taking in the second half, and we look to the Magpies to continued to press forward. What else would you expect from a Kevin Keegan side?
Comments welcome.

Comment #10Yeah you’re right ObaFan – they’ve not been in our half this half, with any credible threat that is
Might be a boring second half but I’ll settle for boring as long as we take this game
Can’t see it though with Martins, Owen and The Duke to prove a point
I see the unwashed are 0-2 up away from the stadium of Sh*te

Comment #18The Duke gets the third. Who else would like a goal? Orders taken and put you name down with KK. I said last week that colonic cleansing works wonders. They must be having weekly treatment! Seems like a different team. Wonderful to watch at the moment.

Comment #24This has been a good game to get Edgar’s confidence up. we should get Carrol on now. give him a run-out. maybe Lua Lua too if he’s on the bench.

Comment #26What a wonderful feeling to be watching a side play such terrific football.
Apart from Man U they are the form side in the league, a far cry from relegation battlers.
What is even better is that they could really be even more goal up and they are making scoring look so easy.
KK Man of the Match!!!
Beye has been outstanding, as as Martins.
