Keegan Planting Seeds for Next Season

Kevin Keegan agreed today that this season will not live very long in the memories of Newcastle United Fans.

Newcastle fans – hopes building for next season

Kevin talked after the great win against Reading this afternoon:

“It would be nice if we can finish the season by continuing to play our football like we can, and send the people here away for their holidays and their breaks thinking: `Wow – next season could be very good for Newcastle United.'”

“This will still be a poor season for Newcastle United – it won’t be remembered with pleasure by the fans as a classic season, but we can plant the seeds for next season.”

“We are always looking to next season, but the main focus is still to finish as high in the Premier League as we can now.”

If Newcastle do continue with their good form through the end of this season it will be difficult to contain the expectancy that will build with Newcastle fans during the summer.

Four good new players and say another4-5 top teenagers and two or three players leaving, will set us up with an excellent squad for next season.

We’ll have a chance to be the surprise team next season, but we will still have to attract four or five excellent players in the summer transfer window.

Comments welcome.

I disagree that this year is one to forget.

This season will be forever etched into the memories of all Geordies.

This was the year of the ressurection, the second coming.

All hail the New King !!

Because we’ve found a system that seems to work well, in which the players feel comfortable and look inspired, we should be thinking of buying a couple more players who can fit into the system in case we get injuries next year.

I would think Gudjohnsen could play the current Owen role and be useful in other roles too. The other most important player in the 4-3-1-2 is Martins and should he get a longer term injury then that is a harder problem to solve. Maybe Antonio Reyes?

I think we should only sell Carr and Amoebi…possibly Ramage. I’m on the fence over whether to keep or sell Viduka. If he can stay fit, maybe keep for one more year!

Great result today and it looks like the beginning of an exciting future fo Newcastle United.
We need world class central defender like Andrea Barzagli of Palermo but the only thing is that he probably isn’t good at english but he is pure quality. Players from southern europe are going to be affected by the poor weather up north so we should look to Scandinavia, Germany, Russia and Holland for players.
    J. Reyes has had his time in the Prl at Ars. and he didn’t like so why would he be going to Newcastle?

Even the neutral and opposition fans have been praising Newcastle lately. I think they are as happy as we are.

I want to hear from all the people who said getting rid of BSA was a mistake. The passing was one thing that amazed me today. Keeping the ball on the carpet instead of always hoofing it upfield like Sam would’ve. KK has really turned things around!

Agreed. Just compare the two Fulham matches. There’s no comparison… SA had the wrong bunch of players to go out and play percentage football. He really should have been a Baseball manager. His mentality is much more suited to that sport. You can’t change players. Trying to impose his style of play on the lads was his undoing. It ruined the team and it took KK sometime to right the ship.

i think we needed a season like this, to show how bad the situation the club was in. It shows what players shouldnt be here, but also how poorly constructed the upper structure was in the club.

Looking forward to a bright bright future

micepie agree with the system working .. said this a few days ago but when we playd 4-3-3 under fat sam it didnt work becoz we pld milner left nd i think itwas oba right of the 3 upfront.

now we play with 3 strikers and with 1 behind 2 main strikers and its a lot more attacking and threatening.

also have to mention again how good beye and enrique were 2day. they were outstanding beye for his great runs and tireless workrate as well as defending. and enrique had his best game for us 2day imo he is so strong!

another thing good to see people taking note of the good performances of people who were gettin undeserved criticism on here imo .. e.g. butt viduka and also i have to take admit i criticised geremi and especially barton badly and its good to see them proving me wrong .. all 4 of them playing well atm. long may it continue

I want arshavin & pandev to join us.
But arshavin was BS’s target(correct me if im wrong), i doubt that will keegan want him?
Keev seems to like players that have epl experience.
Hopefully, he will give those talented players a try.

yeah me too was proved wrong by these creatures in Geremi, Butt, Barton lately. Gladly so. Just don’t see how Milner, N’Zogbia, Duff, Smith could suit the system that really now going well. Long may it lasts. Keep them all until we’re assured of better replacements & they’d gel well in early next season. Arshavin’d be a great capture. Who else?
