Optimism Creeping Through at Newcastle United

St James’ Park will be packed to the rafters this afternoon once again, to welcome the players back, after their phenomenal performance last week at White Hart Lane.

Kevin Keegan has already told his players they have earned the atmosphere that will greet them today, and that a win should be enough to keep the club in the Premier League next season.

Kevin told the Journal this morning:

“There will be an atmosphere when they run out that they have earned,” “It is probably the first game of the season where the optimism is there.” “The change has come from the players, everything comes from the players.”

“They can be advised and guided but the players have turned this club around by their performances. The players now know, almost certainly, if they beat Reading they are Premiership players next year.”

That will be the big motivation for the lads today. Win and we are in the Premier League next season, and we can even then venture into talking about who can be brought in during the summer to strengthen the squad.

But our Recruitment Team of Dennis Wise, Jeff Vetere and Tony Jimenez have all been hard at work scouting various players for the club. While Kevin has rightly concentrated on the playing side since he arrived, the club is in good shape in our pursuit of good players who can improve the squad in the summer.

That’s just one of the many advantages of Chairman Chris Mort’s new club structure.

Things seem to be on the up at the club, once again. You can just feel it.

is it sure that if we get 3 points that we are techincally safe or does it just mean that other teams will have to win a hell of a lot?

Leo I think that the other clubs may have a lot of games against each other which will obviously go against their chances of catching us. Personnally I don’t think that Bolton or Fulham will pick up many more anyway so we could well be OK now anyway. Still a (big) win today will help a lot.
