Newcastle United are said to be among Premiership clubs taking a good look at Rangers’ Spanish center-back Carlos Cuella.
Carlos Cuellar – a Keegan target in the summer?
Kevin Keegan was at Ibrox last week and news is that he was watching the Spanish central defender. It was Kevin’s second visit inside a month, after he and assistant Terry McDermott attended the 2-0 victory over Werder Bremen in the previous round.
Other reports last week said that he was taking a look at 21 year old Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso, but there appears to be some Rangers’ players interesting Kevin since he’s made trips up to Glasgow repeatedly.
Keegan is already on record as saying there are a number of SPL players who could make the leap to the Premiership these days, and there’s even news that Northern Ireland international Steven Davis, on loan to Rangers from Fulham, is another player potentially being monitored by the Tyneside club.
It seems that Rangers are almost certain to receive bids for the 6’3†Spaniard when the summer transfer window opens. But Newcastle fans will cringe if a bid is made by Kevin.
They will remember well another Ranger’s big center back we paid over £8M for in Frenchman Jean Alain Boumsong, who was a disaster at the club, when he was bought by Graeme Souness in January, 2005. Jean Alain is now playing for Lyon in France, after being moved on by Juventus in January.
No transfer fees have been mentioned for the Spaniard but we think his fee would be in the range of £4M.
We think Kevin will be bringing in a center-back, left back, creative midfielder and a big striker in the summer, at the very least.
Carlos was born in Madrid, Spain, is 26 years old and has played 26 times for Rangers this season scoring 4 goals, but he is not yet a Spanish International.
