Keegan Wants Kevin Nolan In The Summer

Surprising news in the People today suggesting that Kevin Keegan would want to bring Kevin Nolan to Newcastle, if Bolton are relegated this season.

kevin-nolan-12.jpg

Kevin Nolan – a Keegan target during the summer?

We think one of the reasons Big Sam was sacked at Newcastle was that he indicated that one player he wanted to bring in during January was Kevin Nolan, his former captain from his old club Bolton Wanderers. The players Sam had wanted in January didn’t excite owner Mike Ashley one little bit.

Maybe that’s just paper talk but it’s surprising news that Kevin would be interested in Nolan, although Nolan can be a good attacking player and we’re sure Keegan can get the very best out of the player.

The People suggests that Kevin Keegan will offer Bolton skipper Kevin Nolan a Premier League lifeline if the Trotters do fail to beat the drop, which looks increasingly likely after their 4-0 hammering at Villa Park yesterday..

And the news is that the Newcastle manager will hope to lure Nolan to the north-east in a £4M deal even if Bolton somehow manage to avoid relegation. We have no idea if this story is accurate, but the more we think about it, it could well have some truth in it.

The midfield is an important part of a Kevin Keegan team, and while Barton and Butt are doing a good job right now we certainly need reinforcements in that area of the team.

We actually think £4M for Kevin Nolan would be a good deal for Newcastle, and if Kevin Keegan really wants the player, it even seems likely to happen.

What do you think about this?

Comments and opinions always welcome.

Aye… and Wingoglia, Smeckanliamo, Lindodo & Whothefek.

Nolan would be a solid midfield replacement for the now very senior Nicky Butt. It looks like we might be going for a couple of top 4 fringe players as well. I’m interested to see if we get any from:
Bridge, Haim, Riise, Silvestre, Brown, Fletcher, Rosicky, Walcott, Sidwell, Crouch, Kuyt.
(Bridge and Kuyt would be decent additions)

Just the papers looking for a story – I hope!
We need players with more flair, and although it is unlikely we’ll be signing any ‘world class’ players this summer, we can do so much better than Nolan. Having said that, £4m wouldn’t be too bad of a price, but a playmaker should be our main target in the short term before finding a new holding midfield player.

We can’t really afford class attacking players if we continue playing a 3 man midfield as they all need to be capable of putting tackles in, and players that can attack and defend to that level are not available (ie Gerrard, Barry etc). So if we want those players we have to get them young and watch them develop.

Nolan would be good in the meanwhile. He is capable of being such a player if KK gets him motivated and playing like he was 2/3 seasons ago. He’s also very experienced considering his age.

Do you think Wenger would consider letting go of Walcott if Zog and a sizable amount of wedge went the other way.

I dont think Wenger really likes havng Englishmen in his team .. He would be brilliant for us

Arteta, Reyes and Fabiano would all want champions league football, and we would be behind most of the top European clubs if we are interested.
Not being in Europe will seriously effect our summer signings, as well being on the back of a relegation fight. We can forget these kind of players, unless Keegan works his magic of course. Big money signings was a route taken by Shepherd to keep fans happy. If we are to get for or five players in, it will probably leave an average of five million per player anyway.

Zarate has a couple of good games and his two goals last week shown on tv – wow lets buy him after all we don’t have enough midgets playing up front do we – that’s where we are short! As for Nolan why don’t you put up the story linking us to sean davis this morning – 2M!

What utter crap – KK says he wants players in (3-5 dependent on which day it is) that will set us alight – so do me a favour stop putting this shite up on the web and on a NUFC site – it’s bad enough having to listen to crap such as sunday supplement with the so called cream of fleet street spouting their rubbish without us giving credence to it

Fulham are deffo for the drop and Jimmy Bullard is a real grafter with a decent pass and a great free-taker I wouldn’t mind seeing in B&W stripes.

KK to sign Nolan ..YES !
simply b’coz i believe he can suit well in place for Butt as Gooderz wrote & KK’d get him motivated and playing to his best.
Oh forget it as this news smells like trash.

mmmmmmm we need good decision makers in the centre of mid field, althought butt has been better of late his decision making isnt quite there, however his pass to marting for the first goal yesterday was immense.the 3 man attack is just a safe play for the rest of the season, over the summer i imagine they will try and work in the wingers and new players, try and find a decent partnership up front. Ive always been a big fan of crouch and have always thought he would be a great partner for owen and martins but viduka is class at the moment, so strong and great at holding the ball up, wouldnt want anyone else at the moment.

people on here doubting zarate are funny to me, they have a go at people for liking him because he has only scored a couple of goals etc, well i say how can you judge him as he has not been a regular starter this season, he is only young, and its his first season in the prem. I also say i had seen zarate BEFORE he came to the prem and he is a very good player and we should go in for him. He is like a striker/Attacking Mid version of Messi

Another tenuous link to a ‘possible’ target to sell a poor tabloid… KK and Terry Mac went to the Rangers vs Sporting Lisbon game on Thursday and the following day we were ‘interested in’ nearly every player on the pitch!

Nolan is a decent enough Premiership player when Bolton are performing well, but he’s not exactly shined of late.

If we are looking to pick up the few gems (and let’s face it there aren’t many) from the teams heading to the Championship, then why not look to those players who seem to regularly perform, or at least attempt to inspire a performance, from their fellow players, regardless of their team’s plight. We could have used a few more ourselves not so long ago.

Jimmy Bullard is a good example of such a player, particularly given his lengthy period out with injury.

That aside, did anyone see Peter Crouch’s excellent performance for Liverpool yesterday? I’ve often criticised his play, as I feel he doesn’t use his very obvious natural attributes to the best of his ability. However, over the last few seasons, his ability to; link play; hold up the ball; pick a defence-splitting pass and finish clinically have won me over.

If one of KK’s remits this summer is for a striker/creative player to link the midfield with the attack and who has Premiership experience and pedigree, Crouch would appear to be that man. Good striker, decent age and most importantly, if you listened to his comments yesterday, appears to be available at the end of the season.

    5 IMO:

    Cuellar – CB
    Hilbert – RM/RB
Veloso – CM/LB (no need for cover of full backs from those two signings and the midfield improves)
    Arshavin – CAM
Cisse – ST – Not to sure about Cisse but someone like him.

well he would be a reasonable signing for £4mil him or bullard would be good to back up the midfield while we bring in someone else who is going to be creative also.

look what keegan has managed to do with geremi butt and barton to an extend( it was always there just needed unlocking) he could improve us with nolan or bullard

im just looking forward to knowing who is who so i can get a shirt for the new season

I think Nolan would be a good signing under KK. As someone pointed out, he would’ve been Big Sams Bolton puppet had he joined under him.

I’ve been wanting Crouch for a long, long time now. He is pure quality.

What we need is options and it’s comforting to imagine our mixed play if we can get wingers pinging balls into the strikers as well as the current 4-3-3

Bentley signing would make me very happy, but I just can’t see it happening unless Kev can really sell the dream. I’d prefer Shaun Wright Philips. It’s a shame to think about how Chelsea have wasted his Man City talents.

One specialised centre back, we have possible left back cover in Tozer, maybe Ramage, three mids and one striker.

All said, has to be quality.

Your suggested signings are as boring and stagnant as big sam’s. I actually think Nolan wouldn’t be bad, despite his obvious journalistic failings as a “BBC columnist”. He’s not a world beater but if you can get him on the cheap or maybe a Bosman, he might be better than elderly Nicky Butt or Geremi (Who have only been good for 3 games this season) or a jailed Joey Barton (can’t do much kicking a ball against a wall!).

All this crap about Zarate and Arshavin is laughable. Listen to yourselves, comparing a man who struggled to make it into the birmingham team to Lionel Messi, (a man who has won la liga and the champions league before he’s even shaving!)

Wes Brown, John Arne Riise are hardly going to improve us at all. I don’t either are better than Habib Beye so why bother shelling out?

These foreign names I think people just pull them out of a hat. Veloso, Hillbert? Talk sense. This is not a PC management simulation (with crap graphics!). I love those games like everybody else but play one from say 1998 and you’ll realise how little bearing they have on reality.

And as for Peter Crouch! I like, no I love Peter Crouch but only because he is a comedy figure and appears to succeed despite his physical attributes/disabilty. I wouldn’t want to pay a lot for him though as I still think that Mark Viduka is better, even next year.

zarate struggled to make it into a birmingham team…maybe because he is young, cant speak english and only joined one of the hardest, quickest and most physical leagues in the world in January

Michael players named aren’t picked out of a hat, i have seen every single player i mention play on numerous occassions and have been very impressed with them. Also, you cannot always judge the quality of a player by the honours they have earned or the team they played for, and the idea of doing so is ridiculous. Alan Shearer is a prime example of this.

Also, obviously i know Zarate is not as good as Messi. I compared the two because they play fairly similar, both dont really do needless tricks and showboating but instead beat numerous defenders with a quick drop of the shoulder and sudden shift in speed. Both are small, argentinian and i think they both have the same medical condition, although i am not sure of this.

Don’t have lots of believe in this article and I hope it is just paper talk, cause he would add nothing to the team.

Indeed someone like Stephen Appiah would be a fantastic buy to fight with Butt to play at CDM.
