Is Licha A Target For Newcastle?

Another player that may be interesting Newcastle is Argentina’s 25 year old International Lisandro López.

Lisandro “Licha” Lopez – Newcastle target?

We have heard some rumblings that Newcastle may be interested in the Porto striker. Nicknamed ‘Licha’, Lisandro was born in Buenos Aires, and started his career at Racing Club of Argentina in the Argentine Primera League. He played around 70 times for the Argentine Club and scored 26 goals before moving to Porto just over two years ago.

Lopez has had an outstanding season for Porto, and has a fairly good goal scoring record having scored 59 goals in his 150 first class appearances. He has been instrumental in Porto now being 18 points clear of Benfica in the Portuguese Liga, with just 5 games to play.

Lopez is a forward who stands just under 5′ 9″ tall, and is the embodiment of determination and not unlike Tevez of Manchester United in that respect. His never-say-die attitude has quickly made him very popular amongst FC Porto fans when he was brought to the club in 2005, from Racing Club for £3M.

He is now one of Porto’s key players, and just as important as the more well known stars Ricardo Quaresma and Lucho Gonzalez.

Here is Lisandro’s playing career as we understand it.

Seasons Club App Goals
2003-2005 Racing Club 70 26
2005- F.C. Porto 78 33
2005 Argentina 2 0

Licha may be a player that Newcastle will go after, although we have no verification of that. We bring him up here in case he becomes a real target in the summer, and is somebody to consider.

We also like covering players that we may sign in the summer. 😀

Comments welcome.

Lopez is a small striker, but like Martins, strong as an ox and immense in the air.

Howver, he wont hack it in the prem because he has very little pace and doesnt have the guile like Viduka (he doesnt have pace so im comparing).

I heard about Porto possibly being relegated like Juventus were. Is this likely? Their players would be cheaper in the summer if we are really interested in any of them.

Please, he may be great but the clubs quota of wee men is full, Viduka is great at complimenting the wee fast men but a little long in the tooth. We should be looking at a striker with size, who can hold the ball and distribute to Owen and or Martins, I think Crouch could fill that role, what do you think?

I like Crouch and think he makes a good target man, Vid is injured too often and we need a player less prone to injury.

He has exceptional first touch just like Vid good distribution and can hold the ball, can score with the head or either foot (overhead bicycle shots are his specially :-)) has a top class scoring record.

I think he would be a good buy.

What about Andy Carroll lads? Personally i believe this youngster can compete with Viduka next season yet who do we have to replace Oba Martins pace if he is unavailable ? We also have Alan Smith who can also play as a target man.
If we were to sign just one forward this summer then id go for a pacey explosive striker.Does anyone know where there is another Oba Martins for sale?

Firstly I agree with Leo this is a potentially un balancing target – i.e. sub six foot strikers isnt a big need is it?

The point that needs making is why Porto pay 3mil for a player we pay over the odds for a year or two later – wrong end of the market chaps. Vetere etc. should be working to save us this cash/effort

Lisandro is a good player i always liked him…… but i’m not to sure if he is good enough. wouldn’t mind him in the squad but can’t see him as a starter. Determination and strenght can only do so much, he’s a decent finisher but other then that…… no need for him i say.

lopez has got 21 goals in 23 games this season you dont to that if your not any good

what about diego milto he is 6ft or something and scores goals, would want to leave if zaragoza get relegated or maybe gilardino looks set to leave milan especially if they resign sheva or zigic of valencia he is unhappy as frozen out of team and he is huge

We only need a backup striker as we may as well convert Smith into a midfielder as he cant score. This guy would only join if he got 1st team football. So realistically we need someone who can be an all round backup striker if Oba, MO or Duke gets injured.

if there are 3 players from todays eufa cup that i had to choose, to come to newcastle, from people we have been linked with

they all looked very good, moutinho looks like he can also play on the right wing, but pushed inside when he needed to. looked a good passer of the ball

arshavin was still full of running even though the zenet tie was all locked up for them, he would be good for us because he is fast, can play either wing, and from what i see he can also play up front.

Cuellar, need i say anything on him? he was outstanding again for rangers, if a ball had been headed out of the rangers box it was almost always done by the big man, he would be a good purchase.

leaving after that a need for a back up left back and after that i dont think we will need much more in the summer, maybe a big striker
shorey and cisse/elmander/pandev would be ideal

release only ameobi carr and smith- if we can get any money for him that is.

the only was i would get rid of nzogbia would be if it was a big offer and we could get a good fast winger in replacement quick

yes Arsha Arsha Arshavin for RW/AM/ST/ and even LW, replacement or competition for Milner / Oba / MO / Emre or even Duff / Zog. no-brainer buy if for anything less than 10m. if he’s not coming a load bid for Zarate (like one for Tevez but a much scale-down in $ terms) may be a shrewd move for Oba backup with some more pace and ball skill upfront.

towards the end of his rangers career boumsong was getting a lot of stick from some rangers fans for being useless especially in europe if i remember correctly, just we never picked up in it at the time.

wheras cuellar has been imense in europe against teams like sporting who we have struggled to keep cleant sheets against in the past he was also very highly rated in la liga which isnt a mickey mouse league.

It is not fair by some of you to say that Cuellar would not be a good option, because he plays very good for Rangers and Boumsong also did for Rangers and not for NUFC.

Even tho’ I don’t know Cuellar. It was a great result for Rangers and it means that there is lots of quality in their team.

i no we have 3 amazin strikers in martins, viduka and owen but i think nufc shud check out CSKA Moskva cos they have 2 amazin strikers in JO who is 20 and has great talent and VAGNA LOVE who is a great target man and play maker and also they have some desent defenders and a good holding midfielder. 🙂
