It’s not hard to pick our worst performance of the season at St. James’ Park this season.
Kevin Keegan – hopes to make it 4 wins in a row
That was the demolition against Portsmouth where, after just 11 minutes, we were 3-0 down and went on to be beaten 4-1 by a much superior Portsmouth side last November 3rd. That was probably the game when Big Sam’s plans for Newcastle started to come apart at the seams.
Kevin Keegan is now well aware of that performance and no doubt has watched the game on video.
Kevin told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle today:
“Probably the worst performance this season for us was Portsmouth at home.†“Now we have just got to go down there and try and put in a good performance.â€
“They are a good side – that’s why they got to the final of the FA Cup.†“They are also a big, strong side, but another Spurs-like performance might get us something out of the game down there.â€
Fratton Park on Saturday will be full of fans welcoming back their Portsmouth heroes, after they successfully reached the FA Cup final by beating West Bromwich Albion 1-0 at Wembley, and then they beat West Ham at Upton Park 1-0 on Tuesday evening. They are flying high at the moment.
Newcastle have not won at Fratton Park for 17 years, so it seems to us it’s time we won down there, and we think we will, with any luck.
But Newcastle will need to start a lot better and more awake, than they started the game against Reading last Saturday, we cannot afford to concede early against this confident Portsmouth side.
