Steven Taylor is recalled to the Newcastle starting line-up having missed last weekend’s 3-0 victory over Reading because of food poisoning.

The 22-year-old will partner Abdoulaye Faye in central defense with David Edgar dropping down to the bench at the expense of Lamine Diatta.

Newcastle are looking for their 4th win in a row at Fratton Park this afternoon, in a match  that promises to be an attacking game from both sides.

  • 14 Charlie Bucket // Apr 12, 2008 at 16:57

Fabian Zamblera scored in the under 18s today for the second game running, hopefully we’ll see more of this kid next season!

  • 21 steve // Apr 12, 2008 at 17:09

Spurs were well lucky to get a point, as were man city

3-1 to the toon - KO in 6 mins and counting

  • 22 ObaFan2 // Apr 12, 2008 at 17:10

Aww the maccums lost lmao :)

  • 23 steve // Apr 12, 2008 at 17:10

Ameobi was injured today and went off after 25 mins - he’s looked pretty poor in the 3 games so far and will prob be out for rest of season
I’d imagine Stoke will send him back at the first opportunity

  • 24 shirts // Apr 12, 2008 at 17:12

Well, this is the first real test of the 4-3-3, isn’t it?

    Let’s go boys!

  • 25 Obafan // Apr 12, 2008 at 17:17

Where is Diatta? Why did they give him a contract?

Taylor returning in the squad is not fair IMO. Taylor was not the most solid player thiss season and his replacement Edgar played a good game last week. And the defence kept a clean sheet.

I would have loved to see Edgar start and Diatta on the bench.

Just hope that Taylor will now understand that he needs to perform.

    1-2 Oba and Owen

  • 26 ObaFan2 // Apr 12, 2008 at 17:19

  • 36 obamagic // Apr 12, 2008 at 17:35

we need to mix it around and pass around not those little chippers towards martins..

  • 37 Obafan // Apr 12, 2008 at 17:38

Is that linesman blind or what? What a push Geremi got there. Come on man!

  • 38 Obafan // Apr 12, 2008 at 17:45

    Very closed game till now.

  • 39 Steve_48 // Apr 12, 2008 at 17:46

Come on man Campbell you flattened Gez there, no need

  • 40 Hadrian // Apr 12, 2008 at 17:49

nice to see us playing like this on the road tho , not many performances for the away fans to shout over this season .
kev’s got them playing really well, i just cringe sometimes when they try and play themselves out of trouble at the back .

  • 41 obamagic // Apr 12, 2008 at 17:53

love the little cheering match going on!

  • 42 ObaFan2 // Apr 12, 2008 at 17:55

Apart from our final ball we’ve played well.

James is a prat though, how long does he want to take a goal kick!

  • 43 obamagic // Apr 12, 2008 at 17:56

boy Enrique is really really struggling.

  • 44 Obafan // Apr 12, 2008 at 17:57

Enrique needs to concentrate on his passing.

    The defence looks very solid.

  • 45 Macca // Apr 12, 2008 at 17:59

That was almost too close for comfort. Harper beaten that would have been a fluke of a fluke had it gone it.

  • 46 Andy1 // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:02

    Another great delivery by Geremi

  • 47 ronaldeano // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:03

This could go either way, half chances for both sides and a low tempo

  • 48 ObaFan2 // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:03

    Lol@Taylor

  • 49 gonufc // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:03

    Jose Enrique is lookin class!

  • 50 ronaldeano // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:04

Martins looks dangerous, he will score first!!! :)

  • 51 ObaFan2 // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:05

    lol@Taylors effort

  • 52 obamagic // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:05

WHAT a overhead kick by Taylor!! Good Stuff

  • 53 Steve_48 // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:05

    Steven Taylor quality

  • 54 Obafan // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:06

Not an off side on Owen.

  • 55 Andy1 // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:08

Good half. All the strikers causing them problems. Good delivery from Geremi. I’d like to see Enrique and Beye bomb on a bit more cause they are both powerful runners and will put Pompey on the backfoot

  • 56 ksmit // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:08

So would you say that they should have had a penalty? Commentators say it would have been harsh and I agree… but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a penalty? Just want to hear what other people think.

  • 57 Steve_48 // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:09

The game needs a spark, an away goal perhaps

  • 58 Obafan // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:10

We try to play good football; I just hope that they play more via Viduka, he can hold the ball perfectly and he will gs through ball to Owen or Oba.

    Defence looks solid
Midfield: hard working to win the battle there. Fantastic set pieces by Geremi.
Attack: Owen and Viduka not often seen, but Martins is really dangerous.

Come on guys good performance so far.

  • 59 51times // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:11

Andy 1 - At the same time, we don’t want to be caught out. A point would fine for me tbh.

  • 60 Obafan // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:12

ksmit - It was not a penalty; Taylor did not know where the ball was and he did not have any intention to stop the ball with his hand.

  • 61 Steve_48 // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:13

    Never a penalty

  • 62 faustinoba ;) // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:14

When we have the ball we’re doing well..they’re just a really hard team to disposess.

Barton is being walked out of the game at the mo. Butt looks good and tbh not really looked sooooo bad at the back.

Owen needs to drop deeper imo. and we’ll be sweet.

Not a penalty….you just cant give it if it’s an involuntary action caused by a ricochet.

  • 63 The black in the blacknwhite // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:15

Our midfield is our weakest point

not enough pace and clinical passing

    our offense is dangerous

our defence looks as solid as i have ever seen it F*cking Faye and his towering headers!!

I think we might need a Duff on just to give as some drivning force in midfield

Geremi- i like- but slow…i mean real slow!! and im not rerally impressed with his set pieces !

    Duff for Geremi 60-70min

Com’on toon toon toon toon army!!

  • 64 51times // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:17

The black in the blacknwhite - Geremi’s balls in have been excellent, especially compared to earlier games.

  • 65 Obafan // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:19

51times - Indeed Beye can not come forward that many because Krancjar is also pushing forward. First task for Habib is to cover Krancjar.

  • 66 Andy1 // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:21

I think the fullbacks can afford to go forward against Pompey more than most teams because they have no real width. As long as the midfielders don’t over commit I think we can cope, with Kranjcar and Diop always coming inside.

  • 67 shirts // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:21

Beye’s stuck back to cover Kranjcar, right?

Enrique’s playing well defensively and making nice runs, but his passing’s off a bit today. Actually, everybody’s passing seems off today.

  • 68 ronaldeano // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:27

Evryones passing is a bit off today, hopefully thay will sort it in the second half

  • 69 Hadrian // Apr 12, 2008 at 18:32

that sun’s gonna catch harper out :(
