Portsmouth vs Newcastle – Teams – Taylor Returns

portsmouth-fc.png nufc-crest.png

Steven Taylor is recalled to the Newcastle starting line-up having missed last weekend’s 3-0 victory over Reading because of food poisoning.

The 22-year-old will partner Abdoulaye Faye in central defense with David Edgar dropping down to the bench at the expense of Lamine Diatta.

Newcastle are looking for their 4th win in a row at Fratton Park this afternoon, in a match  that promises to be an attacking game from both sides.

TEAMS:

Portsmouth: David James, Glen Johnson, Herman Hreidarsson, Sol Campbell (c), Sylvain Distin, Papa Bouba Diop, Sean Davis, Sulley Muntari, Niko Kranjcar, Nwanko Kanu, Jermain Defoe
Subs: Lauren, David Nugent, Richard Hughes, Pedro Mendes, Asmir Begovic

Newcastle United: Steve Harper, Habib Beye, Jose Enrique, Abdoulaye Faye, Steven Taylor, Nicky Butt, Geremi, Joey Barton, Oba Martins, Michael Owen (c), Mark Viduka
Subs: Fraser Forster, Damien Duff, Alan Smith, David Edgar, Andy Carroll

Referee: Phil Dowd
Attendance: tbc

Ameobi was injured today and went off after 25 mins – he’s looked pretty poor in the 3 games so far and will prob be out for rest of season
I’d imagine Stoke will send him back at the first opportunity

Where is Diatta? Why did they give him a contract?

Taylor returning in the squad is not fair IMO. Taylor was not the most solid player thiss season and his replacement Edgar played a good game last week. And the defence kept a clean sheet.

I would have loved to see Edgar start and Diatta on the bench.

Just hope that Taylor will now understand that he needs to perform.

    1-2 Oba and Owen

nice to see us playing like this on the road tho , not many performances for the away fans to shout over this season .
kev’s got them playing really well, i just cringe sometimes when they try and play themselves out of trouble at the back .
