Kevin Keegan will sit down early next week for talks with Newcastle United’s Billionaire owner Mike Ashley.

Kevin Keegan - 6 new players for the summer
His first priority will be to settle on a new deal for his captain Michael Owen, and tie him down for another four years at the club. Kevin will also list the players he wants to bring to Newcastle United in the summer.
Keegan thinks the England striker is only too willing to commit the rest of his career to St James Park and now wants Ashley and Newcastle chairman Chris Mort to act.
The Newcastle deal for Owen is likely to be worth around £20M for 4 years which is similar to the deal he is already on at the club. But Keegan is adamant he wants Owen to sign his new deal before the club starts to bring in up to 6 new players in the summer.
Kevin told People Sport today:
“The Michael Owen signing will be done,” “He is the first big signing.”“It’s important to get quality.â€
People Sport is saying that the six new players on Kevin’s list are Wes Brown, Richard Dunne, John Arne Riise, Aaron Lennon, Aiden McGeady and Jose Antonio Reyes. We have been linked with all of those players in the past.
Reports today also suggest that Lennon is not wanted by new Spurs boss Ramos and could be bought for as little as £4M, but Ramos is not interested in a swap deal with Charles N’Zogbia. But we think £4M is just too low a price for a player of Lennon’s caliber.
But those 6 players look very good to us. But we also need an out and out striker to that list and we think that could be Peter Crouch or Bafe Gomis. We also think we have interest in midfielders Mbark Boussoufa and Joao Moutinho.
But obviously Newcastle will have an A list and an accompanying B list, so it’s probably true that we have already registered some interest in all these players.
We’ll have to wait to see who we can get to the club in the summer.
It certainly will prove to be an exciting summer for the Newcastle faithful all around the world, as Kevin constructs his new team on Tyneside.
We just cannot wait.
Comments welcome.

There has been several speculations on KK’s in list. Guess there are many anxiously waiting for some firm revelation next week.

seems like whoever we are after the positions the players we are looking at adding to are…
a target man striker, a creative cm, a wide player that can play wide in a 433, a center back and a left back.
and maybe a squad utility player or young player.
i actually think some players being looked at are possibly replacements for current players who keegan doesnt rate and keegan is hoping he can persuade ashley to really splash the cash not only on additions but if possible improving on what we already have.
some people forget how ruthless keegan can be and i think even he would way up the pros and cons of selling the likes of martins/milner/viduka/emre should the right offers come along as long as the money was there to bring in better players and add to the current squad.
5 craig f // Apr 13, 2008 at 12:28
Wes Brown - Not a bad player, better than what we’ve got already? not sure..
Richard Dunne - A rock in centrel defense. Will he come? not sure..
John Arne Riise - Not the plyer he was a few year ago
Aaron Lennon - To play where? and instead of who?
Aiden McGeady - Havent seen him play tbh, but heard alot of good things about the young lad. and no, not off champ man! Swap Celtic for the Toon? of course u wud
Jose Antonio Reyes - To play where and instead of who? Too much of a whinger and a puff

Whoever We get We Need To Sort Out Deals Before The Transfer Window Opens.. So They Can Be In Newcastle On The First Day. To Give Keegan And His Staff The Most Time With Them..
7 daiv // Apr 13, 2008 at 12:34
Never buy a Man U player. They have all seen better days and left their legs at Old T. Wes Brown is their weakest defender, but still looks Ok in a good defence. he would be poor for us.
8 wsq // Apr 13, 2008 at 12:34
c’mon be realistic.. where are we going to get 60mil from?
to get quality that’s atleast 10 mil for each quality player. the very least. anything below that is for a player with questionable quality and a risk.
Are we really going to splash 50 odd million. If i was a prominent lawyer turned CEO of a private company i’d advice against that.
That is why KK has repeatedly told the press he wants to question how bad MA wants to win something in the next three years!
“How bad do you want to win, Mike?” asks Keegan.
50 mill plus wages with no european football.
CM retorts “build sustainably, that’s what the Newcastle supporters want.”
Therefore, we’ll get half of that 60mil i.e. 30 mil and will end up with a mediocre set of players satisfying the likes of you guys with questionable characters like RIISE, BROWN and all the shitty players you’ve mentioned.
Next year you’ll end up having a argument over we must give riise or brown more games etc, just like butt he is still adjusting, then they move on on loan to some team facing relegation.
If you want keegan’s magic stop conversing in SAM ALLARDYCE”S tone, bringing in 2nd tier players who’ll end up just like Alan Smith. Ridiculed for not being able to offer any quality.
If we do get 30 million. Spend it wisely, spend it on quality, real quality! Spend it breaking a transfer fee record! That’s the Newcastle WAY The Keegan WAY. Spend it on One player, who’ll inspire others already in the team to step up their games.
Then we can make more 10mill additions slowly.
Buying a hoard of players at 60mil at one time not only demoralises the current batch of players.
9 iain // Apr 13, 2008 at 12:35
i think the actuall list of players since keegan came back that the papers make out he wants is …
crouch, gomis, arshavin, fletcher, bentley, riise, pennant, mcgeady, s.brown, cuellar, amorbieta, lennon, henry, deco, moutinho, veloso, bousaffa, bridge, w.brown, dunne, richards, metzelder, gudjohnsen, torosidis, nolan, howard, modric, pienaar, davis, cisse, nasri, fabiano, prieto, mbia, beevers, vokes, diego, shorey, insua, ashton, bent, chimbonda.
basically what the papers know isnt worth knowing.
10 Ross G // Apr 13, 2008 at 12:38
I don’t think those players are incredibly special. Keegan wants to bring only top quality players to Newcastle im sorry but half of them are not top quality. Although useful neither Wes Brown or Richard Dunne are players we should be looking to fill in that top CB spot. Metzelder would be fantastic, if we get them cheap fair enough but its setting targets low. I personally think these players should be the 6 we get. Riise for extra LB (Bridge if not). Metzelder/Barzagli - commanding top top CB. Gomis - this guy is special. Gudjohnsen - midfield creator/striker can play where owen currently does. Veluso - plays very much like a Carrick/Hargreaves basically great passer with a tackle to play deep. Then we need a top CM like Deco. I think pace is a big point to strengthen however and maybe after unloading the likes of Carr, Cacapa, Emre, N’Zogbia, Ameobi, and maybe Duff then bring in two quality fast wingers that can take players on. Lennon is good but no end product like Pennant and Wright-Philips. Boussoufa is actually a left winger/striker so he would be worth the LW/S place with in my mind the best available realistic RW is Quaresma. My Team then (4-3-3): Harper/Given, Beye, Barzagli, Taylor, Riise. Owen, Veluso, Deco. Quaresma, Gomis/Gudjohnsen, Martins/ Boussoufa with a bench of: Given, Faye, Barton/Butt, Milner, Viduka

i watched the saint etienne match highlights( full game) and the commentator said there was scouts from england watching, so does this mean that nufc were watching gomis , he only played the last 27 mins but looked good and maybe he didnt start because etienn knew nufc were there to watch gomis and etienne dont want us to have him but he is currentle third top goalscorer in ligue 1 behind benzema 17, niang 15, gomis 13
12 Jonny T // Apr 13, 2008 at 12:43
Would be good signings. Not sure about riise and reyes tho! Ed’s right. we need a striker in too!
What we definitely need is some who can take a good set piece! More often than not when geremi takes a set piece it will go to the front man. This needs to be sorted out! We had over 10 corners against pompey with every single one being cleared by the first man! If someone decent was taking a corner maybe we might have had a few more chances at goal or possibly even snatched a goal!
sort it out kev!
13 wsq // Apr 13, 2008 at 12:44
I think, Keegan will ditch 4-3-3 and opt for 4-4-2 and find quality to fill in those positions. Yesterday it didn’t work very well some players were a bit hasty in putting balls into the box, but there weren’t enough players in the box to put the ball in the net.
To get goals from crosses, we need 4 to 5 players joining up the attack in the box. This is why man u gets so many goals. Their wingers cross in full confidence of someone getting on the end of it.
Daiv agree with you. How much better is brown to ramage and carr.
14 daiv // Apr 13, 2008 at 12:46
Most of these players are rejects. Lennon and Risse cannot get in their first teams. Reyes could not make a go of it at Arsenal. Brown is Man Us worst defender. Why are we buying second rate? To achieve what? Top 10? Top 6? You do not but rejects for top 4 surely. A disappointing list of names. If we cannot afford the best in the Uk, we should be buying abroad. Come in Mr Wise. Just what are you doing working from home in Bucks?
15 Marguerite // Apr 13, 2008 at 12:55
Completely agree with wsq and Daiv. I am totally underwhelmed at this list of players. We do not want the big clubs’ rejects, a definite receipt for disaster. I cannot see what Brown, Dunne, Risse, Reyes and Lennon could bring to the party except inflated wages. I exclude McGeady as I have seen too little of him, albeit he is the right age.
I agree if we cannot afford top class English players (or they will not come due to lack of Europe) we have to look abroad and the sooner we can get them on board the better.
I see we have been linked with Fenando Amorebieta - now that is interesting.
16 Nick Dryden // Apr 13, 2008 at 12:55

The players listed will not be Keegan targets IMO. It’s speculation.
Why out of our 6 targets would 3 be wingers ? (Lennon / Mc Geady and Reyes).
Added to this Reyes disliked England / London. He complained about the food and the weather - so it’s a non starter him coming here - plus he was apparently disliked in the dressing room according to reports on Talk Sport when he was leaving Arsenal
19 leavy // Apr 13, 2008 at 13:04
at this stage we cannot know what kind of players will be coming in we only know what positions keegan is likely to strengthen
a replacement/ understudy for the ageing and injury prone mark viduka, faye has looked poor at the back recently i feel and he isnt the kind of player who gives me confidence he must be replaced i reckon we need a betterleft back
i know many people on here like enrique but hes not very good at all for 6 million i was expecting more from a man dubbed the bull (sh*t)
lastly a whole range of attacking midfielders are needed butt is ourdefensive midfielder and still has fire in his belly barton is good but geremi in open play is shocking as are his corners, emrewho is my fave player is constantly injured
and n’zogbia is likely to leave, leaving us with a slow midfield.
cheers!

I don’t want to dampen anyone’s fire with regards to transfer speculation, as I also love to speculate who will be brought in as well as to dream about the dawn of a spectacular season ahead…but a word of caution…Ashley has spent now’t on the playing side of this club. OK he has spent a bit on new players, but let’s not forget Allardyce had a net spend of around 9 million after being told to sell before buying. We are already hearing words like ‘caution’, and phrases like ‘ players for the future’ being bandied about by Mort, and I expect that to continue. Kev needs money to compete in today’s league, and sadly I for one don’t believe he’ll get it. It’s time to stump up the cash Mr Ashley…9 million is 3 times less than Sunderland spent and a whopping 6 times less than Sven…Please prove me wrong Ashley/Mort and give Keegan the money he needs to make this club great again!

1.Metzelder
2.Bentley
3.Henry(long shot but you do not get if you do not ask)
4.M.Richards(another long shot)
5.Riise
6.Theo Walcott
I know the probabilty of us getting these players is very slim but if we want success then this is what we should be aiming for players of this calibre but without european football it will be difficult to persuade these players to come to Tynside if we did get these players my lone up would be
Harper
Beye Richards Metzelder Riise

Bentley N’Zogbia
Owen
Henry Martins
Subs,

To be honest, among the 6 mentioned, only Aiden McGeady and Richard Dunne excite me.
I wouldn’t be too pleased if Reyes and Wes Brown come actually. Brown is the weakest link in the Man Utd defense and Reyes is quite a whiner.

Sorry WSQ just to quote a little
“If we do get 30 million. Spend it wisely, spend it on quality, real quality! Spend it breaking a transfer fee record! That’s the Newcastle WAY The Keegan WAY. Spend it on One player, who’ll inspire others already in the team to step up their games.â€
I think this has been the problem with NUFC for way way too long, we have been throwing money at big names just to keep a section of the fans happy and where has it got us????
I think we will have probs getting any real big names to come in as we have nothing but wages to offer at the minute. We need to look at this as a couple of seasons building not a quick fix, as that has never really worked in the past.
We improve the squad a little and with a lot of luck we can be in Europe next season, always bearing in mind there are another six or eight clubs pumping BIG money into their squads with exactly the same idea, that’s not counting the top four. So six to eight clubs spending big to get one of the remaining two European slots means six are going to be unhappy.
I would be more that happy with squad improvement and a solid top half finish next season then a squad improvement and a top eight fighting for Europe finish next and a top six the season after, then the bigger names will be willing to come as we can offer quality entertaining football in Europe as well as wages then we can look to challenge the top four.
This is progressive building and is a lot more sustainable than your idea of a big money signing, we have a long history of spending big and getting donkeys, we have been consistently one of the biggest spenders in the prem and have got nothing to show for it, it’s about time we learned to ignore you fans who demand the big names now and move away from the big headline buys.
NUFC appear to be doing the right thing now we are picking up young players that are showing a lot of promise but not costing the money that you want to throw around, we work with them and feed them in slowly forming a solid base to build from I suppose you could say Arsenhole style. Why spend 30 mill on a big name when giving time and patience we can produce our own big names????
In 1990 the England squad had Beardsley, Waddle, Gasgoine, Bryan Robson as captain and Sir Bobby as coach all came from the north east and we could be back to producing the likes of these but not if we hold on to your idea of lets spend 30 mill on a big name and break the transfer record. That’s it lets just keep the reputation of being the biggest spending underachievers in the prem.

Well said cupidstunt. The papers can speculate and we can dream, but why should ambitious players join Newcastle now? Were not in europe, we havent proved anything for the many seasons - except having a chairman (fat freddy) doing and saying silly things. We need results and stability that will make ambitious players trust us, not only being a club where you can get great wages. Buy players who are a bit better than those weve got, hopefully we now have a recruiting and scouting network in place that can manage that. That will bring us into the top six, not has beens and so called big names. From then on we can challenge for the really big players.

weary weary weary..
same ol shite.
big names.. never did i say big names. i said quality.
i never mentioned henry.. never mentioned ronaldinho.
Big names don’t equal quality.
Don’t give in to the likes of the top4 clubs snapping up players happily for the sake of keeping them away from competitors!!
u have to fight tooth and nail with there hoarding policy of the top 4. we can’t be content with signing up their leftovers!
U GET ME!
SIGNING UP LEFTOVERS. And we end up with mediocre players. They snap up the quality players and don’t play them. Enough is enough.
Time and time again players show their worthiness over a season and end up in teams like chelsea and man you and liverpool and don’t get played regularly.
Buy to inspire buy quality.. 1 or 2 quality player is better than 4 mediocre players.
that’s my policy and no one can change it. Signing big names just to make fans happy is not it..
buying a striker who’ll score 30 odd goals with pace that will scare the hell out of the likes of john terry is the way to go. It will inspire others in the team to work harder.
Buying 5 leftovers, near to expiry date items, from tesco and sainsbury is not the way.
Buy one item from harrods or waitrose.
e.g. a big name signing would be beckham which is what we don’t want
e.g. of a quality signing is bently
so what if we don’t have europe. so what! weary and disgusted.

We should buy players at there best. What are we looking for? A midfielder? Van der vaart- At the top of his game, Still has his prime to come imo, Supports the strikers alot, Can get 10-15 goals a season. He’s at hamburg? 47 arnie // Apr 13, 2008 at 14:59
I get you wsq, agree with your thoughts on leftovers and mediocre players.
But when you say “buying a striker who’ll score 30 odd goals with pace that will scare the hell out of the likes of john terry is the way to go” you think, or dream, that we are able to compete to get this player. At the moment were not.
And were not competing only with the top four, there are lots of clubs on the continent tracking any talented youngster . Quality players can pick and choose.
Thats why we need patience, buying players who are a bit better before we can hope landing the big fish. I wish it wasnt like that, but it is.
It looks like Chris Mort has understood this, the way he is building what will hopefully be a solid structure outside the park.
48 faustino // Apr 13, 2008 at 15:02
It’s alright wsq must be about 15 and new too football with the spout thats coming out.
We won’t get ‘big’ players in this close season but to say we’ve never signed the ‘best’ is dumb to say the least and, in all honesty, ludicrous.
Anyway, we lost our buying power the second Roeder/Souness was/were employed. Fatty Shepherd didn’t realise it was the managers that we’re persuading the quality players to come here and not the cash. Something KK should put right.
The stupidity in this argument is to suggest any club outside of the la liga big 2 and chelsea sign ‘big’ players. The majority sign players with talent and promise and use their infrastructure to mould them into world class players.
Fergie didn’t sign Ronaldo, Nani etc. as the world’s best, they will just become that at his club. Somehting we need to be thinking about for the long term. i.e. becoming a club of all round excellence, football-wise, rather than one that’s trying to buy it’s way into the silverware.

The six players in that story don’t really make sense to me. Couple of big 4 rejects and 3 wingers when it will be hard to stop playing 433. Dunne has looked pretty crap without Richards to cover. Dunne, is a rock in the back, a lot better then we have and it’s something you’ll miss if you don’t see him from week to week.
McGeady would also light up Newcastle, a real, talented winger with pace AND skill.
The others are either past it or wouldn’t come but like I don’t think we’d attract anyone bigger anyway.
But while were on that topic..
Anyone else hear that Sunderland want Giggs.
60 Ross G // Apr 13, 2008 at 16:16
If we have the money then go for a top striker too, but if we want top players i think we should leave the striker out and focus on the rest of the team maybe get Gudjohnsen in but not big money we do have three top anyway in Martins, Viduka, and Owen. To be honest though say we have £50m to spend and wotever we get from sales I would get rid of these - Carr (free), Rozenhal (£2m), Cacapa (Free), Emre (£5m), N’Zogbia lov him to stay but prob not (£8-10m), Ameobi (£3m), and too be honest I would also get rid of these two Smith £5m, and Duff £5m. They are not performing and Smith is rubbish. That would free up wage funds and an extra £30m for players. I would bring Gudjohnsen in for £5m. Then Quaresma (£15m), Boussoufa (£5m) Thats two wingers we want. Bridge (£6m), Garay (£12m), Barzagli/Metzelder (£12m), Veluso (£8m), and finally Deco/Diego (£15m) That means of our £80m we would spend £78m. Then our team 433: Given — Beye, Garay, Barzagli, Bridge.——Owen, Veluso, Deco. ————- Quaresma, Martins, Boussoufa. Subs: Harper, Taylor, Barton, Gudjohnsen, Milner
61 ScottyT // Apr 13, 2008 at 16:17
ive said for a while bullard would be a good cheap signing and i agree stephen hunt would be good also.
looking at some others mentioned still dont rate brown hope he isnt on the list, dunne i like but he needs a good central defensive partner, dont rate arca at all really. tbh i hope we start looking at clubs like porto and sporting lisbon for youngsters because they seem to proudce some quality players. e.g. ronaldo nani anderson quaresma. we could take a look at some people from their acadamies would be interesting to see.
62 moomfan // Apr 13, 2008 at 16:17
just in case none of you lot paid notice, the recent hand me downs from other prem teams have not produced the goods for their new teams. so, outside of crouch, why are you so called lifers suggesting we go for the likes of riise, bridge, brown, bentley, dunn etc. these lads are not toon material in my opinion. we need young, dedicated , loyal, committed and quality players that will play for kevin and newcastle for years to come. please stop the idiot speculations and suggestions like the arse media does.
63 ScottyT // Apr 13, 2008 at 16:20
tbh we may as well get rid of charlie its quite obvious he wants to leave so he can feck off.
we could get a good sum of muny for him thats for sure. no point in him being here if he dusnt giv a sh1t anymore.
64 Dom4Toon // Apr 13, 2008 at 16:21
Bafetimbi Gomis
Aiden McGeady
Miguel Veloso
Gary Cahill/Richard Dunne/Metzelder
And then possibly Andrei Arsahavin
Would love Diego or Van Der Vaart but it aint gonna happen- you can always dream though!
65 ToonFan1 // Apr 13, 2008 at 16:59
i just hope we go for arshavin…
everytime i see him play he gets better and better, for example when zenit played in leverkusen in the uefa cup.
could pick up a potential bargain there too around 7mil if we get him in before the euros and he has the potential to become world class.
he has great passing ability as well as a decent eye for goal.. just what we need in a midfielder. could act as our playmaker.
if not i like the sound of moutinho..have a feeling one of europes elite will go for him though.
66 Tom // Apr 13, 2008 at 17:24
i disagree with the idea that quality players always cost ten mil +. even in this day and age i think it’s possible to get players who would improve our squad at 5,6,7,8 milion. just because a player is bought for a lot doesnt mean hes going to be quality. (luque). i think with the recruitment team now installed they won’t just be asked to look for top class players, they’ll be looking to save money on players as well. We need to stop throwing money around and concentrate on real quality.
67 Tom // Apr 13, 2008 at 17:26
as for this list it’s the people isnt it so a load of bollocks in my opinion. for all we know none of these players could be on the list.
68 Bucks1985 // Apr 13, 2008 at 17:56
Keegan will probably sign:
Crouch
Dunne
Riise
Brown
… and an attacking midfielder… hopefully David Bentley, but I think Liverpool may have him in their sights… maybe a blog on attacking midfielders who we could ACTUALLY sign would be a good idea… i.e. Van der Vaart and Diego being out of the question!!!
69 Brian // Apr 13, 2008 at 18:19
Mascherano was not good enough for Westhams first team, and he is now a key player for Liverpool, if Keegan sees something in a player and the player has potential why not buy him?.
70 Andreas // Apr 13, 2008 at 18:36
wsq (and others), totally agree that we will be better off spending BIG (20-30 mill) on one awesome player (not older than mid-20’s) compared with spending 10 mill each on dubious 30-year old has-beens.
One BIG signing and a few to bolster the squad is the way (imo), 40 mill would do (maybe 50). That’s not “super much” considering we are debt free and hence the TV-money/season tickets/etc can be invested.

“Then our team 433:
Given
Beye, Garay, Barzagli, Bridge.
Owen, Veluso, Deco.
Quaresma, Martins, Boussoufa.
Subs: Harper, Taylor, Barton, Gudjohnsen, Milner”
Ross G, that’s a very interesting lineup. I assume you would have Veluso playing a bit deeper than Owen and Deco with those two pinching in a bit and essentially playing a two-pronged central-attacking midfield (essentially completely devoid of wing play)? Ya know.. Beye and Enrique are swift enough they could likely move up into a wing-back style position to make up for that. Just need to make sure we’re conservative on that, and the remaining backline is solid (that goes for DM as well). For that matter, the two wide forwards can always adjust as well.
What a fiercely attacking team that would be! Again though, that CB CB DM treo needs to be -incredibly- in sync.
74 hanzemre // Apr 13, 2008 at 19:45
i can happily wait for a surprise of a few foreign names KK’d bring into SJP this summer with just 1 or 2 well-known top EPL players. Whoever comes KK’d assure us to be a formidable force once again. With 2 or 3 sellings, 50M is enough to get us to next level of improvement/sustainable success.
75 Ross // Apr 13, 2008 at 19:48
if there’s even an ounce of truth in that list, and if that’s who we end up with in the summer, i’ll be genuinly gutted.
Riise-not what he used to be, if top 4 dont want him that has to say something
Wes brown- ^^…
Dunne- i was impressed with earlier in the season, but he’s looked full of mistakes recently.
Reyes-cant say much, havent seen loads of him since arsenal.
McGeady-he’s a talent, still has alot of learning to do though.
Lennon-always been a fan, would be more than happy for him to come knocking on the door. his final ball isnt the best, but that can be worked on, and he’s lightening like.
76 Obafan // Apr 13, 2008 at 19:51
Ross G - are you serious? Boussoufa in your line up and Gudjohnson on the bench.
Every week I see the Belgian League and Boussoufa would not be the ideal player to go to NUFC. I really do not know why the most of you are so excited about him. Have you ever seen him play a game? I have a couple of times and he never impressed me. And that is in a quite weak league.
77 Mag 4 Life // Apr 13, 2008 at 19:57
david bently’s just a big head… would rather have jimmy bullard. we need a strong target man like gomis/fabiano as competition for viduka. We should take a gamble on mcgeady. Hopefully Keegan will persuade Zog to stay and next season he will flurish Duff is past his sell buy date I think. Would like Boussoufa for competition for Milner cant see it happening though.
Hopefully with another couple of defenders our team could look like this
Harper
Beye Faye Taylor Enrique
Boussoufa Bullard Butt McGeady
Gomis Owen / Martins
78 Obafan // Apr 13, 2008 at 20:01
This would be my list (if I only hasd 6 players to list off course);
1. Andrey Arshavin (pure quality!!!)
2. Bafe Gomis (special striker who would be loved at St James)
3. Dante Binfom (very good LB with a great future)
4. Soll Campbell (still has something special in his defending)
5. Deco (creative CAM which is what we really need / I’m sure KK would get the best out of him!!!)
6. Rafael Marquez (fantastic player who can play as our CDM)
I have to admit that the 6 names listed by Ed do not really excite me.
Reyes: ok I would not have any problems with him coming. Good player. Don’t know his attitude tho’.
Dunne seems not that good recently.
Riise: is on his way back.
Lennon: not a starter at Spurs; we need to focus on bringing in players who are not 2nd choice at their current club.
McGeady; don’t have an opinion on him, cause I do not know him.
Brown: would be a good buy. Some of you say he is the worst of Man U defence, but I think, apart from Beye, our defence would not play at ManU. So he can not be that bad and he would strengthen our defence IMO.
79 scott9 // Apr 13, 2008 at 20:26
6 players i would go for
bridge 7m
metzelder 8m
veloso 17m
genero 10m
mcgeady 13m
gomis 10m
with them signing we would be in top 6 however i cant really see us making these signing but if we want to bring in real qaulity this is wot we shud look at

81 Gallacher the Horse // Apr 13, 2008 at 20:42
Oh blimey, here we go again; a list of players their present managers don’t want being touted to our club. I’m fed up/hacked off (and worse) with this constant linking of players considered close to sub-standard by current teams to KK’s ‘wishlist’. Obafan, whilst respecting our views, mine are different; Brown was, once again, Manure’s weakest link today and KK, Chris Mort and our bankers would have to check the number of fingers left on each hand, or even number of hands, if we offered that red-nosed clown Ferguson even a nominal sum for him. The rest of the list is almost the same; mostly a litany of not-being-played-regularly second or third choices (McGeady being the exception.)
If it’s truly the case that we/KK has a decent transfer budget I’d rather see us work the way Real Madrid do, although not over-stretching our credibility. Try to tempt proven quality players, or genuine up-and-coming talent, away from clubs rather than being seen as a last big payday for former quality on their way out. Our reserve team has truly picked up in the last few weeks as the five (?) January signings have begun to work as a unit with some established team members. Whay can’t we do the same over the summer with straight-to-first-team players. Another season out of Europe notwithstanding, there’s little to no reason why players with first team aspirations shouldn’t come to us as opposed to any Premiership team outside of the top four. From fifth down to eighteenth we are all currently fighting for that fifth spot, with fourth there for the taking when Liverpool implode.
So enough already with the the safe, dull and ultimately not up to it choices. Mike Ashley is forking out a sizeable sum to a hopefully comprehensive scouting operation and now is the time for it to earn it’s money. If they can’t find better than what’s being suggested by the papers and other outlets, let them go, because we can do the current job of picking the bleeding obvious watching Setanta/others or playing Football Manager. Let’s be innovative and catch everyone’s imagination. I’d be happy to pay Wise’s airfare to Portugal out of my own money if a non-cheating Ronaldo appeared, or would even spend a week or two in Holland myself for nowt if it meant I found the next Jaap Stam or even van Persie for our club. But please, no more other-club rejects!
82 Leo // Apr 13, 2008 at 20:46
you know what i find amusing, half, if not more of the people that say, no to crouch but yes please to gomis have not even seen him play, and have just heard he might have some potential…
how many times has potential biten us on the ass?
83 Gordon Oliver // Apr 13, 2008 at 21:42
I think we should look to Sevilla. They have a great Central Midfield with Poulsen and Keita. Then put Deco, V.D. Vaart, Bentley or Diego in front of them and I believe we are set. Poulsen has a buy out clause of only 8 mil but both Real Madrid and Barca is said to be interested. However he likes to switch countries so he might be tempted if KK does his magic.
Our strike force is top class. With the two Sevilla Players in front of the defence that should make their job a lot easier.
Better to Spend 40 mil on 3 topclass players then on 6 potentially good players.
84 Tom_Toon // Apr 13, 2008 at 21:47
We should look at Benfica for CB’s. Luisao is immense at times and David Luiz is turning into a beast of a defender.
85 scott9 // Apr 13, 2008 at 21:55
i agree gordon oliver poulsen wud be a great signing not sure if we would be able to get him though however i dont think we would hav a chance of gettin diego or bentley
86 JJ // Apr 13, 2008 at 22:43
Peter Crouch is an outstanding player and we would be lucky to get him!!!!!
Bridge would be great at LB and both him and Enrique would get plenty of games cos bridge would be injured half the season ; ).
Arshavin we should definately go for, he has bags of energy, vision and is excellent from set pieces.
Kallstrom would be another great addtion in the middle of the park.
Jimmy Bullard would be a fantastic squad player in the midfield.
In defense we need a pacey defender with power and experience, someone like Lucio springs to mind, Metzelder would be great if we could get him.
Rangers CB Cellor looked a good buy too.
So I would go for:
Crouch
Bridge
Arshavin/Kallstrom/Bullard
Gareth Barry (if at all possible as our DM)
Lucio/Metzelder/Celluor
87 Carl Johnson // Apr 13, 2008 at 22:55

people are talking crap, we buy players that cant make the first team and look at some of them! martins wasnt first choice at inter milan, neither was owen at madrid or given at blackburn when we got him. Nicky butt always played second-fiddle to keane at manure. you could also argue for geremi i no ppl are 50-50 on him but he has played well since returning from africa, hez not the quickest but he does open up play for us. so saying that lennon isnt good enuf is utter bollocks or that riise is past it (as i recall ppl were sayin owen was past it and nicky butt? yet look at them now, pulling off man of the match performances every week) so maybe ppl need to sit back a little and look at what there saying before they say it.
93 Tom_Toon // Apr 13, 2008 at 23:49
Bosingwa for 7 mil and for him to sit on the bench??!?!?!?! No chance.
94 dcbashore // Apr 14, 2008 at 2:13
At the back, go for Dunne and Bosingwa (or Bridge). Midfield, Carrick and Michael Bradley (not the prototypical CM but has 15 goals as a middie in Holland this year), and up top go for VoH from Celtic to replace/spell Viduka. Send the kiddies out on loan and keep the rest as cover. Our squad is small as it is.

Deco - too old, potentially a whinger i can see, still a huge risk if he comes for free / 100% fit / on 40k a week
Metzelder - more time on the treatment table than the bench, let alone the pitch
Reyes - if he opted out at Arse coz of homesickness or the weather or whatever what makes him come to us? if he signs, likely Luque the Fiasco the sequel
Crouch - why him? no pace no physique and header not exceptionally good despite his 6′7″ height, and not young anymore
Wes Brown - better than some defenders we have now but if he’s too good ManU would have renewed his contract ages ago right? can come free, a big plus, but his wages may be ridiculous?

Have got to agree, these players just don’t do anything for me. Agree with the guy who said we shouldn’t be buying top 4 rejects, look what happened back in the 90’s when we were a top 4 club and Tottenham bought a load of our players, where did they go, what did they do? Nothing…
99 Jim // Apr 14, 2008 at 12:34
by the time next season starts NUFC will be linked with at least 100 players… from Noddy to Jesus.
I’m wondering how reminiscent of KK’s first time round this is. Remember Shearers signing? Along with Ashley’s business in the merchandise line, I expect there to be a huge publicity signing, but I couldn’t guess at who.
I only hope we don’t go far past 25 as an age and avoid the drop outs from other clubs. It’s a worry that our developing talent such as N’Zogbia and Milner are muted as outgoing and older pro’s are sounded as on there way in.
I think we need to cover:
LBx1
RBx1
CDx1
RWx1
AMx1
STx1

Haven’t seen Jimmy Bullard mentioned on here.
He may be at Fulham, but I think he is a quality player. With real energy and drive from centre midfield. scored a couple of goals since he has been back from injury. If Fulham go down, he would be an excellent signing to bolster our central midfield.
Also, what about this Zarate kid from Birmingham. I know he is at some Qatar(ian) team and they apparently want 20 million for him. But thats just paper talk hopefully. I think If we could snap him up for 10 million or under he would be a quality signing. Has proved he can score in the premiership and only young.
