Newcastle Continue Transfer Push

Newcastle are working hard on transfers, even though the end of the season is still a few weeks off.

Giles Barnes – Newcastle still interested in midfielder

There is news today that Newcastle will continue to try to sign Derby County’s Giles Barnes, the 19 year-old midfielder who they tried to get in January.

We didn’t offer enough back in January to convince Derby manager Paul Jewell to sell, but we think an updated and improved bid should do it, and he would be a good young player to add to the Newcastle United squad.

As we have reported a couple of times on this site Newcastle are also keen on signing Anderlecht winger Mbark Boussoufa, the Morocco 23 year old winger.

Mbark Boussoufa – interest from Newcastle

Mbark has said he is willing to stay at Anderlecht and the Belgium club does not want to lose the player. There is also news today that the Belgian club’s sponsor, Kia, the Korean car manufacturer, have even offered to fund a portion of Boussoufa’s improved wages in order to keep him at the club.

Benoît Morenne, the Kia managing director, said today:

“I know the size of the contract Newcastle will offer Boussoufa,” “The difference between it and what he earns at Anderlecht is not insurmountable.”

”We want to make him one of our ambassadors. It is the only way to keep players of his quality in Belgium.”

“Newcastle want an answer from Boussoufa by the end of the week, so there is no time to lose.”

So it seems like we will know by the end of the week if our attempts to sign Mbark have succeeded.

But if Mbark doesn’t really want to come to Tyneside, we probably shouldn’t bother.

Comments very welcome.

To many players being linked with us ,
but its nice to see they all seem tobe decent .

it’s the players where newcastle are only being linked with i think that has the most to them .
when we are linked with the likes of manure for a player i reckon its more todo with agents than owt else .

if its just 50m being spent in the summer , keegan can forget about his proven pl experience , far to overpriced in this league for the calibur of players we want , at 50m spent .

considering man citys new owner has been in just as long and already spent that , i feel pretty hard done by , ashley would have made a tidy income from this season from tickets alone , considering we spent jack in the summer or winter .
im hoping for alot more than 50 million , id like to see half that spent on 1 player 🙂

Trouble is is that we are all going to suffer from TT Syndrome. Or transfer talk syndrome, as soon as another player is linked to us, we will all slump face first into our takeaway meals, in a catatonic trance in front of the computer screen.

I predict that this will grow to epidemic proportions as we approach the new season.

The only respite will be when we actually have a confirmed signing of a new player.

Fortunately it is not normally a fatal illness although a lot of brain cells may suffer.

No to Giles Barnes, 2 serious knee injuries and 2 knee ops at 19.

Take a 5 mil punt on Boussoufa.

Spot on Tom Toon 2 serious Knee injuries and operations the club would be stupid to risk it he is a decent player but knee injurys are the most serious for footballers and being 19 makes it a lot worse i wouldn’t even if it was 2-3 mil.

Hadrian, can i have some of what you’re smoking?

    be bloody realistic, man!

sure, franksinatra has spent a fortune at city, but thats cos he only had to pay about 50p for the bloody thing in the first place 😉

when you consider Ashley has already spent £240m or so acquiring the club and clearing our outstanding debt, the man has far from short changed newcastle, he’s saved us from becoming Leeds United MkII

We already have the basis of a good team, we know this because we all said it last summer. However, circumstances (well, okay, allardyce) led to some serious underperforming from a lot of the squad.

Keegan’s right when he says we have a good core squad already, and it just needs a few additions to freshen it up as we’re shallow in a few places (left back, right wing spring immediately to mind)

Sven may have been allowed to spend a lot in the summer at city, but where has it got them? They had a great start to the season, but the cracks soon began to show. If anything, City have proven that simply throwing money at a team isn’t enough to make it a great team.

    Teams are built, not bought.

We dont need more than 4 players in the summer from the fact that we’re not in Europe so we wont be playing too many games.
But if KK wants to buy, lets say 4 players he has to make sure that those 4 are really top quality. It goes like 12mil per player

Chris f well said Hadrian only 50 mil are you mentally insane as Chris said Ashley more or less saved us i watched an interview when Chris Mort said we were 2 or 3 days away from folding like a pack of cards caused by big dirty fat freddie shephard. I think Ashley will give KK what money he want’s cos he will know KK is the master in the transfer market and all the shite in the press about Mike Ashley selling the club in my opinion is a load of bollocks’ cos when you see him celebrating at the match he does not look like a man that want’s to sell the club and it is nice to see he has ditched his Smith shirt and now has King Kev on the back.

we forked out 17mill on bloody owen a few year back for god sake !
anderson and nani are not even out of diapers and they were brought in for 20 mill .

ohh and enough of this ashleys spent bollocks , its not about what he spent , its about what he’s got in return , he’s not out of pocket in the slightest , if you think a poor season has taken any of the financial shine off this club then your sadly wrong .

and yeah , diego would do me fine 😀 wonder if keegan still got connections in germany !! 😛

hadrian, that why the club almost went tits up. Simply throwing loads of dosh around isn’t going to get us where we want to be (financially solvent for starters). We have to spend intelligently and work our way up the table. Let the other clubs blow their loads on stupid signings.

that owen spendin is FFS fred, Mike Ashley saved us, dont u read it about it at all hadrian? gosh then u dont know how deep sh*t we went into or ur just bein ignorant, somewhat like leeds spot on chris, i think hadrian stil didnt understand the fact that we in serious debt, plus we are not in europe and we are still spending so if MA needs time to reclaim it even of what he spends, plus TV rights etc not as much cos we ddint make it to the further round ……. so ur tryin to say here hadrian just because his a billionaire? his still a businessman and lookin back again its a risky world if newcastle get relegated we could lost 20M and we didnt get to europe so his first season gamble didnt paid off,

players hurm KK did it in 1993 without spending too much but inteligently, i think we need to be realistic, this is not football manager game btw

beye is our best player and we only spend less than 5m for him so that shows that u dont need to went overboard for super players, sometimes it just hyped

but we do need to spend for quality, it aint cheap

Boussoufa seems a good buy if for 5m or less. if he signs then Zog can go. KK seems to want him out anyway. also if we can buy Arshavin for RW/AM and get Zarate on loan as a serious competitor for Oba, plus Owen / Duff / Duke(if fit) / Carroll we’ll be up with the Big 4, if not better in pace and creativity and ball-skill, in terms of firepower.
Barnes is a decent young player in an awful team but if we already have Barton / Milner / LuaLua (not to mention Emre) in his best position why bother?

I reckon that both players can perform pretty well. Giles Barnes is a target since Bobby Robson if not mistaken. He does perform very well. He would probably has the skills to replace Butt in the future ^

absolutely my words yes, he’s to light – and more important he will stay where he is and I think that’s a good decision of him!

Barnes is ok, but wouldn’t be a signing that makes me go “wow”…and if you understand KK right he tried to exactly say this! We need players who can improve our squad! I think BARNES would level our squad but not improve…but KK mentionned also to bring in some more youngsters and there BARNES would be an excellent buy.

But again, we need 3 real crackers! GOMIS, McGEADY and CARRICK!

Tom_Toon & Oba9, I have to disagree with you slightly on G.Barnes’ knee injuries…He has a lot better chance of staying fully fit with them happening so young. I’ve had 2knee ops, and I’m back playing a decent standard of football…So a 19yr old pro shouldnt have any problem. If he’s on the cheap I dont see any risk, we’ve paid more on injury prone players in the past!

of course a poor season takes financial shine of a club, you earn money as a football club by being high in the table, so you get a good percentage of tv rights and by playing in europe- Hadrian are you a bit slow mate!

and no 52,000 bums on seats every 2 weeks doesn’t pay for all this, i’m not religious in the slightest but thank god for Ashley, im behind him and his chairman 100%

I think the three quoted by Elfer would be good additions. Cannot see Carrick wanting to “come home” though. McGeady seems worthwhile and obviously Gomis. We can tout names all day but if they do not want to come to NUFC it is over. If they do not want to stay it is over too. Whoever comes must be quality, not just a money grabber, but above all must understand the passion and mentality of the toon. We are not just another football club or just another city up north. We are the Geordies, we are our own people, our team CAN BE and WILL BE the best, and any player who wears our stripes has got to take that fact on board. If they cannot then don’t come or don’t stay.

hadrian – after buying the club, mike ashley then forked ouit 110 million to completely clear the club debts. there is no way whatever gate receipts we’ve made this season that he will be up on his investment at the moment its simple maths!!!!!!

I’m sure he will invest big this summer but i dont want to spend like city, most of there £50 m has proved to have been a total waste. i would rather have enrique, beye and faye for a total cost of £6m then all of city’s summer buys put together. as even elano and petrov seem to have been early flah in the pans and faded now defences are used to them.

lets be honest if kk wants 4 players tht are goin to ‘set the team alight’ as he says then hes gonna hav to spend around the 50mil mark anyway cos players tht set ur team alight dont come for a few million, and as for all u lot sayin tht throwin money around doesnt bring u success take a look at chelsea. now im not saying we should throw money around like that but we need to invest big money on a few star players then build a team around them for the future

This is my favourite time of year, when the NUFC faithful come out with suggestions for the players we need to sign, linked to statements of disappointment about other clubs’ spending and how we’re a ‘big club’ who need to ‘compete with the best’. I have a different take on it…

We need a reality check on our expectations. We are not in the top 4 so any players from those clubs will not want to sign for us. As an example, we will not this season – or any season – sign Michael Carrick. The kid left the town as a teenager and has stated repeatedly in interviews that he is not attached to the region in any way. For Carrick also read any other of the twelvety seven other players suggested for signature by people on this blog.

I actually do not want players like this at the club. I want players with something to prove – players hungry for success who see playing for NUFC as a privilege.

We have been down the previous route for so many seasons now.The frustration is palpable before a ball is even kicked, as anyone worth more than £6m is linked to NUFC in the papers and our fans scream blue murder as they sign for other clubs.

NUFC have spent ridiculous amounts of money since we entered the Prem becoming mid-table – we shouldn’t be throwing sums around like confetti of how much we ‘need’ to spend. £50m; £70m, £40m anyone? And funnily enough, most names are big European stars that every other mid-table club wants to sign.

I think we’ll see a different approach this season. Ashley is first and foremost a businessman. He wants to run NUFC like a business. Man Utd are an effective business first and foremost. Their huge spending is possible because they have the revenue to do it. We can’t compete at the minute so let’s not try.

We need to recruit players at a reasonable price – therefore they will be players that Wise & Co. have been recruiting quietly for a the last couple of months.

I think we should be prepared for some pleasant surprises…

owen had a bad knee injury and has fully recovered, took him a while which they always will and because barnes is young it is more likely to heel not less likely….

giles barnes would be a good squad player, with loads and loads of potential, get him signed up now rather than after someone like moutinho because he will more than likely come than if we had a good set up of CMs

ive conceeded that we wont be able to get carrick he really looks like he is enjoying his time at manchester united.

some of you are so insitent they have a clue , when they really just talk bollocks .
our financial ranking of 14th in the world hasnt been based off our league position these past 5 years has it !!!
ashley didnt buy a club doing well did he !!

get your heads out your asses , if you think owen’s 17 mill turned the financial tide of this club then you should zip it now before you dig yourself any deeper holes .

id like you to name me a sucsesfull team that was built and not bought .

even keegans team in the 90’s was bought , pre ginola or sir les .

if you dont think this league revolves around money , when manu bring kids into their ranks at 20mill a pop , then your heads so far up your backside its noit funny .

to not expect this club to compete with the big boys on signings is a diservice to the money the club takes from its fan’s .
and unlike our primped up superstars , our cash is earned alot harder .

let mike and mort line their pockets then 🙂
