Newcastle Face Competition for Barnes

Reports today that Middlesbrough will fight it out with Newcastle United for Derby midfielder Giles Barnes.

Giles Barnes – Middlesbrough also interested

Newcastle are definitely interested in the youngster, and he is one that Kevin Keegan has talked about bringing to the club for the future.

Indeed Newcastle tried to get him in January when Keegan was manager but their reported bid of £2M for the 19-year-old was rejected out of hand by manager Paul Jewell. But Jewell at the time said that an improved bid (around £3M), would be acceptable to Derby, so we would hope that Newcastle would go back soon, with an improved offer.

In fact we are hoping that Newcastle are putting the bids in for their players now, so we can attract the new players early, and they will have sufficient time to bed down at Newcastle, before the new season begins.

Barnes had a knee operation recently, and will be out until next season, but in a straight choice between Middlesbrough and Newcastle we’ve got to believe he’d prefer to play in front of 52,000 home gates and join the Keegan revolution.

Middlesbrough are said to be preparing to lose Fabio Rochemback and want Barnes as a replacement.

Comments and opinions very welcome.

Full stadium of 52,000 fans compared to Boro’s quarter filled dump, better and more experienced players around him, KK is the more experienced & respected manager out of the two, finished higher up in the table (hopefully)

It should be a no brainer come the end of the season

if i was a young player in Giles’ position i would want to play in the same team as Martins, Owen, Duff & Viduka, rather than Alliadiere, Mido, Tuncay and Alves.

Hope we get him for the future. At NUFC we have charisma (KK and St James and 52,000). At Middlesborough they have miasma (smog, glue, and Teeside). If the lad has brains as well as feet he will come to us. Has Carrick decided to come home yet? Or is he still trying to swim in the ship canal?

I liked the look of him, particularly when they played against us. I think he’s got a lot of promise and is only 19. Well worth a small punt.

It would be nice to see Bentley at SJP as well though.

No History, No City, No Future, No Fans.

Who’s it gonna be Giles? For 3mill he’d be a great buy for a strong young midfielder. Not the calibre we need for a push at the top four (seriously) but a decent midfielder, what with geremi (although better) being on the slow side of walking.

Spyro, aye kinda. Obviously they feature low on clubs with a trophy record, but until fairly recently they have had no noticeable record in the F.A.Cup, and anything at all in Europe. Throw in a couple of administrations, and combined with their fans lacking abilities, they have always been ‘Just another club’.

Crespo and Suazo will be available for next season…Personally,i’d love Suazo in our team.
Imagine Martins and Suazo together, what a headache for the camermen trying to focus the camera on those 2.

you can’t conduct a very thorough medical if he is in rehab from his opp

personally i would wait until he had been back playing, and managed regular games in the championship, i wouldn’t improve the offer as he has not improved during that time, and derby are now definately relegated

Spyro – I meant that they have stink from glue factories etc, but more unfortunately their Riverside Stadium was built on top of an old toxic tank farm. Is this why their game can stink?

Will he be a starter for us? Doubt it, so maybe the Smoggies might get him – he would certainly walk into there side.

If he wants to learn, play attacking football and train with good players – not to mention new players coming into the club then it will be us.

Cant say I am to fussed if he comes or mot to be honest!

Bentley will not be going to Arsenal. Their are two reason for this: 1. Arsenal owned him in the first place before loaning him to Norwich and then selling him to Blackburn. 2. He is English.

I also must say that when we played Blackburn I was most un-impressed with Mr. Bentley. I think we would be better off spending the extra pounds it would take to pry him from Blackburn on other players.

Plus I doubt his Peterborough pedigree would want to move up to the Northeast.

Carrick! let’s take the money we would spend on Bentley and get Carrick from ManUre.

Reports today of clear out by Chelsea, which means we could probably get Sidwell and Ben Haim — who, of course, we were lnked to last year under Roeder. Not the best players in the world but I think both could be helpful.

I would like to see us buy a few players like barnes. im fed up of the likes of tottenham getting all the english young talent.
Barnes, Lennon, Cuellar and Riise would be the first 4 realistic names on my transfer list. All for less than 20 mil. any1 agree?

We seem to get nominated to get other teams clearouts so often. Will Chelsea be after our clearouts? We must develop the attitude that if players are not good enough for the so-called top 4 they are not good enough for us either!

realistically speakin, chelsea got trophies, europe to offer and importantly money, we dont, no use arguing or being emotional about it, we must face the fact somehow, sidwell and ben haim is not a bad signing either

hey even martins is inter milan CLEAROUTS btw!
