News today that Kevin Keegan may be interested in taking Kevin Nolan from Bolton Wanderers for £4M, but we think there’s another Englishman who could fit the bill on Tyneside..

Jimmy Bullard - target for Newcastle?
With Bolton winning 1-0 yesterday at Middlesbrough they still have a chance to stay in the Premier league. But whether they stay in the top league or not the reports suggest that Newcastle will be pursuing Nolan.
It seems to us that if we are going after Nolan, a better bet could be Fulham’s Jimmy Bullard, who has been playing very well for the London side, and was their best player when Newcastle beat the Cottagers 2-0 at St. James’ Park recently.
29 year-old London born Bullard has just recovered from a serious injury but he has looked a good player this season, and could be even better at Newcastle under Kevin Keegan.
And he has made no secret of the fact that the ground he likes playing on most is St. James’ Park, because of the great atmosphere created by the Newcastle faithful. We keep hearing reports on Kevin Nolan, but given a straight choice we think Jimmy would be a better but for Newcastle.
Bullard, who stands 5′11″ tall, played 68 times for Wigan Athletic and scored 11 goals, and has so far played 145 times for Fulham scoring 10 goals. On the other hand Liverpool born Kevin Nolan is 25 years old, 6′ tall and has played 268 times for Bolton scoring 40 goals.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

good player and awesome free kick taker
3 Ausgeordie // Apr 20, 2008 at 11:07
looks good cause he is surrounded by crap. I think we could do better buying foreign for that money. Nolan looks a better buy cause of his age but I’d like to think our eyes were set higher. Just cause mort said no big name signings does not mean we wont outlay 10 mill on one or two as the market has changed and 4 mill does not buy much quality.
4 Joe // Apr 20, 2008 at 11:14
they’d both be pointless signings because they are no better than what we already have
5 Irish-Toon // Apr 20, 2008 at 11:19
I rate Bullard, I think he’d do well in our midfield. It looks like we’ll be losing Emre during the summer and Jimmy Bullard would be an excellent replacement and would only cost £4-5 million. We need a creative midfielder who can feed the three pronged attack.

I think there could be a few clubs move for Jimmy Bullard, but would say he’d be an excellent acquisition for the Toon.Go get him!!.

forget bullard, average at best, also there is news we are going for anthony gardner….NOOO!!!
9 apan // Apr 20, 2008 at 12:17
its funny people here assume money with good signings and if they are unheard of comes cheap they sux or worthless, sigh typical mind so sad
i rate him, and he take free kicks and corner better than geremi and his work rate is unbelievable, wigan became a diff team after he left, so does fulham, plus his a total professional so i dont think he will complain if his on the bench if our squad is too strong, GET HIM!
plus like KK said POPULAR PLAYERS is out of reach, i use the term popular
10 Spyro // Apr 20, 2008 at 12:20
i just read that martins would like to stay with us for the rest of his career if we start doing well, he is so loyal
11 Spyro // Apr 20, 2008 at 12:21
Of we are going for ugly players then i would prefer crouch came
12 tonygreenthetannerballmagician // Apr 20, 2008 at 12:31
APAN-you’re bang on the money.Terry Hibbitt was not a big name signing and he cost peanuts,he was simply AWESOME.£30,000 from Leeds Utd reserves.Buy Big when we can,but also buy sensibly too and Bullard ticks a few boxes.
13 Tom_Toon // Apr 20, 2008 at 12:38
Bullard is to old, Nolan isnt good enough.
14 lonely toon army // Apr 20, 2008 at 12:42

15 lonely toon army // Apr 20, 2008 at 12:45

ben haim n metzelder for defense please..
16 Tom_Toon // Apr 20, 2008 at 12:46
Ben Haim, was that a joke?!?
17 V`SG // Apr 20, 2008 at 12:57
i cant believe you guys are rejecting some pretty average-good players linked to us.
Dont forget we just fought out of the relegation zone. We’ll be lucky if we can get someone who’s interested despite being chased by clubs higher up in position than us.
Whats wrong with:
Bullard - High workrate, watch our game with fulham again, see how bullard was running and fighting despite he’s other teammates. it showed alot of character already.
Ben Haim - Despite being average, he’s still at least a decent DC in the league.
Nolan - People dont rate him, but I feel he’s decent too.
Pls dont forget we’re weak in depth, if these players are affordable, I feel it would be a good buy for our club.
I would rather KK to bring us up slowly and steadily.
Dont want us to be another hot spurs/bolten…..
Just my two cents….
Good luck to the boys and our derby later!
Will be cheering from little singapore here!

I expecct the name Pennant is going to be posted as an article in this blog soon as wel under the heading “unwanted pennant on Keegans transfer list”.
This is just getting comical!
Next if say Bolton goes dowm Diouf would be connected and then matty taylor.
What a joke!
19 Nev // Apr 20, 2008 at 13:00
bullard would be a great buy … all the fans will love him and will do his bit for the team … i do rekon he only had another 2 yeats at top flight left in him tho
20 toonfan1 // Apr 20, 2008 at 13:01
the team for newcastle is unchanged!!!
the scum line up wid gordon, nosworthy, mcshane, edwards, whitehead, murphy, miller, higginbotham, collins, jones and reid. walk in the park!!!
21 Nev // Apr 20, 2008 at 13:02
pennant and gardener … i live in liverpool and liverpool fans rate him as a championship player .. and dont ge me started on the everton fans on gardener !!
both would seem like ideal souness signings
22 sirjasontoon // Apr 20, 2008 at 13:23
Jimmy Bullard wow what a great signing he would be..that would really show the premiership that we mean serious business..maybe he is the transfer record breaker keegen mentioned a few weeks ago.
These type of transfers are not going to improve the team very much just boost numbers and depth.
The theme from Steptoe is ringin in my ears and Ashley is tighter than a Nuns….
23 sirjasontoon // Apr 20, 2008 at 13:26
PS No offence to Jimmy Bullard reallyI like him but want to see some proper coin splashed out..not like last window which was sh@t.
24 obamagic // Apr 20, 2008 at 14:30
I’ll pass on Bullard… how bout Nigel De Jong, his such a good and powerful player.
25 Tom_Toon // Apr 20, 2008 at 15:33
Nigel de Jong is a great player!
26 51times // Apr 20, 2008 at 16:02
He’s at HSV though and they’re currently 4th in their league, don’t think we could get him. I do rate him though.
27 toonbarmy // Apr 20, 2008 at 16:35
If Birmingham are relegated what about signing James McFadden.
Also look at fábio coentrão as a player for the future. Good left winger currently playing in portugal. He is on loan at Nacional Da Madeira from Benfica but he might be tempted to come to England if we offer the right price.
28 shearer4pm // Apr 20, 2008 at 16:36
145 times for fulham
may wanna check that, he played like 5-6 times before he came here and had that horrific injury, and hes just come back from injury this season
20 games tops
but yes go for jimmy good charecter and not a bad player
29 Irish-Toon // Apr 20, 2008 at 16:56
We played well today in the first half, we struggled a bit in the second. Butt was oustanding in the first half and Owen looks better and better in his new role, but we still need someone in midfield who holds the ball and play the crucial pass and I think Bullard can be that man
30 Geordie Lumberjack // Apr 20, 2008 at 17:01
Jimmy Bullard, Bullard
He’s better than Steve Gerrard
He’s thinner than Frank Lampard
Jimmy Bullard, Bullard
31 ScottyT // Apr 20, 2008 at 17:04
agree ttly ed .. wouldnt like nolan much prefer bullard and would be cheaper also gr8 little player.
we beat the mackem tw@ts!!!!!!!!! gr8 atmosphere for a change wish it was always like that. brilliant!
32 scott9 // Apr 20, 2008 at 19:07
i think bulard would be a better bet if he can stay fit however i think he mite go to west ham as he is a west ham fan so r his family and he loves living in london thats why he went to fulham and why woudnt west ham want him.
33 apan // Apr 20, 2008 at 19:45
sirjasontoon - then u want us to sign Beckham? that would really boost our name as big time signing and mean serious business, ah its buyin smart and not smut thats important, we are not big 4 heck not in europe and not even in top 10 yet so people wont get attracted to come, yet
bulllard is better than geremi trust me esp on dead balls, he add in squad depth and believe me he can even start for our team if his in Newcastle right now, he got vision and his passing was spot on, a good professional
nigel de jong, van der vaart all good, but NOT REALISTIC, we just got off from relegation threat put that in mind and Kevin Keegan just came back from football so some players outside of UK wont know him that much as a manager or his style of play so that would be a problem too, hopefully dennis wise can scout of some good talent, but i have faith
34 YankFanInNZ // Apr 20, 2008 at 20:58
It’s probably just me being an American, but how do you guys rate Clint Dempsey? He left the MLS to get top-flight experience, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he wanted to leave Fulham when they’re relegated. He’s only25 too…
35 shearer4pm // Apr 20, 2008 at 21:37
clint dempsey hey
done nothing for me really sorry
he was suposed to be fulhams creative midfielder this season
and well we all know how creative fulham have been dont we haha
36 richie // Apr 20, 2008 at 22:10
sebastion larsson
37 Irish-Toon // Apr 20, 2008 at 23:34
Bullard missed most of the season through injury but when he came back he looked pretty good. He played well against us and I’d still put my money on him
38 Taiwantoon // Apr 21, 2008 at 4:12
A good player, but not enough for closing the gap between us and the big fours. Still, wouldn’t mid having him as we do lack in depth.
By the way, we did just escape from the relegation fight, but I am sure we could still get very very good players if the money is there. Remember how Chelsea break into the big 4? Abra’s 100million, I’d say.
The problem is Ashley has to show his ambition to the top players and to us. Mind you, I am kind of getting worried, as Mike seems to be so tight.
39 AndyT // Apr 21, 2008 at 9:26
Jimmy Bullard wont come to Newcastle. He left Wigan and went to Fulham because he wanted to be down south. More likely to see him go to Pompey or Reading if they stay up.
40 Ian // Apr 21, 2008 at 11:17
He is a good player if he will come here.
He will spoil the team photos and wont attract female fans though!!!
Pennant is rumoured to be interested in us, that would be a good signing too.
41 Tom_Toon // Apr 21, 2008 at 11:34
Pennant is crap!
42 chuck // Apr 21, 2008 at 20:22
No bullards , Pennants , Nolans, Gardiners, Dioufs or Dempseys thank you very much!
Try an Arshevin or a McGeady a decent central defender and a couple of quality backs and Wright Phillips on the right wing, that`l do for a start.
43 scotty // Apr 21, 2008 at 21:47
I’d be happy signing Bullard and Hunt from wigan. Although i’d like to think we had a little bit more ambition.
