Newcastle Maintain Their Interest in Sidwell

News again today that Chelsea’s midfielder Steve Sidwell is indeed a Kevin Keegan transfer target for the summer.

Steve Sidwell – midfielder could be arriving at St. James’ Park

The 25-year-old midfielder only moved to Chelsea on a free transfer from Reading last summer, and was very close to joining Newcastle at that time. But we think the sacking of Glenn Roeder submarined that deal and he chose Chelsea instead.

At the time that wasn’t thought to be a good choice, because Chelsea had lots of top midfield talent, and Steve has not been able to get his game at Stamford Bridge. He has made only 15 appearances for Chelsea this season, after previously making 168 appearances for Reading, and scoring 29 goals over four seasons. Sidwell started his career in 1999 at the Arsenal Academy.
.
The news today is that Newcastle are fully prepared to match Chelsea’s £4M valuation of the player, but face competition from Aston Villa, Blackburn and local north-east rivals Sunderland. We think Sidwell would be good value for £4M and we hope we can move in, and secure his signature quickly.

It seems like our recruitment team of Dennis Wise, Tony Jimenez and Jeff Vetere have not been standing idly by since January, and have made inroads with a lot of our potential transfer targets. That could prove very valuable for the club in the summer. Good for them.

No no no. I’ve seen him play at the Bridge a few times now. He’s the nowhere-man. Never around the ball, never in position. He’s the anti-Ballack.

The rumour on BBC says Luka Modric. Now that’s a deal I’d love to see.

Can you please write a story writing off the absolute rubbish that we are after Anthony Gardner. He is probably the worst CB in prem history.

notice how ed has had to put a picture of him up while wearing the reading shirt.

thats because he hasnt spent enough time on the pitch for chelsea to get a new picture.

He has just 1-2 good season for Reading and jumped to the Titanic like Chelsea, I don’t think he’s as good as his reputation. Of course, 4M is not high value. Good squad player but no more than that for me.

Compare with Barton, Parker, Nolan. I don’t think Sidwell is better.

Modric would be immense and Sidwell would be good too, he is a very similar player to Barton though. Reports are saying Modric is a left winger are rubbish, he can play there but he is better in the centre and is very similar to Hleb in the fact that he has some of the quickest feet in football and a great brain also. To be honest he would probably play best with Emre as he is our most able player for technique and vision, If we get Modric I believe we need a new LB, CB, and DM. We should spend most on a top CB like Garay or Barzagli £12m. Not Riise LB we should be putting Bridge at the lowest standard, but I would put in a cheeky £10m bid for Philip Lamn. Then DM we need a ball playing athlete here, although Butt is a very good player he sometimes lacks the energy needed. We need a strong, big, powerful, technical player like Yaya Toure (obvious no chance). Seems to be France that offer the best options here. I think a bid for Villareal midfielder Mavuba would be a great shout he was quality in France, but not really made it in Spain and so could be picked up for around £8m a bargain. My Team 433.

    Given

    Beye Taylor Barzagli Lamn

    Mavuba

    Barton Modric

    Owen

    Viduka Martins

Sidwell is a good player, if people still say about Parker leaving then Sidwell is virtually the same player with Ginger hair

I say we give Chelsea £20m for Bridge, Wright-Phillips, Sidwell and Sinclair and be done with it!

i would go with that chelsea raid craigg, however, i feel Cahill should be one of our main targets. He would make a great future partner for taylor.

Potential NUFC defence in 2 years.

    Edgar —Taylor—Cahill—Enrique

Taylor and Cahill could very well be the future England partnership

Spyro you know i love Cahill too, Although another RB must be a high priority for KK as Beyes main back up is Carr who must go or Ramage, Edgar will probably be sent out on loan.

Im torn on the Ramster as i love his commitment and pride but on the other hand i know he aint the answer as Man Utd have Brown, O’Shea, Evans, Silvestre as back up who arent great but can do a good job.

I watched the Shearer testimonial the other week and Ramage was up and down the Right wing like a young, un-obese Steven Carr. He put some great balls in with both feet and set up Luques goal with a lovely left footed chipped cross.

But then gets caught out by a ball over the top and fouls Maloney for a penalty.

My heart says new contract, But my head says Sunderland AFCs Star Signing of the summer.

i think Edgar is too good to be sent out on loan, i think he should now be learning from Beye in order to be his replacement. i would HATE to see Edgar leave, i was gutted when Huntington left.

The thing about Ramage is i just dont feel he has the physique to be a dominant CB. Too skinny.

Let’s be tough. Let’s put an embargo on getting any players from Manky U, Arse and All, the Chelsea Bun Boys, or Liverpool. We must find our own top, top two, or top three or four place future players. We have the setting for a quality challenge – all we need is a few more diamonds to become the jewel of the EPL in the north east!! Lets make a start with Modric. Sidwell just a squad man.

Has everyone forgot that dynamic right sided, put your foot in midfielder, can play wing back, I`m talking about Miguel Veloso.
Would compliment Modric and a ready made replacement for Butt, a better player than Sidwell, probably more expensive but more versitile plus still a young player.
Now we know the club is serious about rebuilding, why not go for the best,” whata you say Mort”?

Sidwell if he came to us could end up as he is now, a permanent sub. Not good for us or him.

He wouldnt be bought as a first team player, and as such he might be a good backup player for the right price.

I am always baffled by the term back-up or utility player. Either they are good enough for first team or not, that terminology implies that they are not quite good enough to hold down a permanent first team place. In which case personally I wouldn’t want them. If on the other hand we are talking about an element of squad rotation with all of them good enough for regular first team play then that is a different matter.
