Clean Sheets Now Regular Event With Newcastle

Kevin Keegan’s new Newcastle team now has 5 clean sheets in their 14 games since mid-January.

Habib Beye – clean sheets important

Habib Beye, our Senegal international right back is only too pleased to add to the number of clean sheets the team can get this season.

Habib told the Evening Chronicle today:

“At West Ham we’ll be trying for a clean sheet again.” “It wasn’t so long ago that we were conceding four or five goals in games.”

“That was far too many for us as a defenders.” “If you want to win a game you can’t concede even two or three goals.”

“That means you are asking your attack to score three or four – it’s a big ask.” “When you keep a clean sheet it’s much better, it means you have a chance of winning games.”

Beye has been in excellent form since he returned from the African Cup of Nations duty for Senegal in late January, but Habib says it’s not just the defense that’s responsible for clean sheets but rather the whole team.

Beye paid tribute to his team-mates when he added:

“I think it’s not just the defense, that have been playing well.” “I think everybody relies on the defence, the midfield and the attack to do well.”

“Against Portsmouth and Sunderland we did very well throughout the games.” “If you do that all of the time you can keep clean sheets.”

“The Sunderland Tyne-Wear derby game was massive for us and we kept a clean sheet.”

Newcastle are 5 points behind 10th placed West Ham and would go just two points behind with a win, and just two games to go. So we must win tomorrow, to keep our hopes alive of getting into that top half of the table, which is important for the team.

It would be able to be used to convince new potential players that much better things are on the horizon under new boss Kevin Keegan. Of course we’d put ourselves in a good position to win iof we can keep another clean sheet, which we’ll have to hope for.

And Beye thinks 1-0 wins are something Newcastle can aspire to on the road as he added:

“When you see Chelsea, they win 1-0 quite often.” “You don’t always need to score lots of goals – 1-0 is enough.”“If you want to be a big team you need a big squad.”

“People like Oba, Michael and Dukes working hard up front is good for the team.”

But when you can win 4-1, as we did at Tottenham we’re not sure we want to aspire to 1-0 wins – maybe 4-0 wins away from home.

We have the team that can do that right now, and with Kevin in charge that’s the type of score he would like to see, we’re sure of that. It’s certainly what we would like to see- even tomorrow. 😀

GeordieGerrard i aint being funny mate, but you are building yourself up for disappointment if you keep talking about someone we are yet to sign as if they have already got their shirt number. I know Modric is a top talent, but we should wait and see what happens as we have been in this position many times.

    Ed, or anyone else….

What’s Newcastle’s longest ever unbeaten record in the Prem? I assume it was the season we gave the title away?
