Keegan Hands Transfer List Over To Dennis Wise

April 26th, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 105 Comments

Kevin Keegan has recvelaed he has already met with Newcastle Owner Mike Ashley and Chairman Chris Mort and has handed his list of transfer targets over to Dennis Wise and the Recruitment trio of Newcastle Executives.

Kevin Keegan - has handed over his list of transfer targets

Kevin talked about the type of players he can get to the club in the summer:

“It’s nice because people believe we can get big-name players, but we have just got to keep it real and not let people draw us down one-way streets.”

“But there’s no point parking players here who are squad players. A few people rang me and said they had really good squad players, but we have got enough squad players here.”

Kevin has already talked with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley and chairman Chris Mort, and a list of the players Kevin wants at the club has been created in an attempt to land the three or four top-class players Kevin wants to bring in during the summer.

The process of attracting those men to the Tyneside club will be the responsibility of Executive Director of Football, Dennis Wise, Vice-President of Player Recruitment, Tony Jimenez and Recruitment Technical Director Jeff Vetere.

It looks like our trio got off to an unfortunate start with failing to convince the great Luka Modric to join the club, but there are other players available, who could really improve our squad.

Keegan continued:

“We had a meeting a couple of weeks ago. We really put our two lists together because they have got a massive expertise in Europe.”

“While we on our list have got all the top ones, they are looking at the ones who maybe you can get who will be the next top ones, but are younger.”

“When we out them together, it was quite interesting.” “That’s it now. If someone asks me how we are getting on with our targets, I can honestly say, ‘I don’t know’ because I am not party to that.”

“But I will know the minute they are complete or have failed, I guess.”

We know Kevin knows about Luka Modric now, because we failed with that specific target - unfortunately.

But it’s got to be upward and onward in the transfer window for Newcastle this summer.

Comments very welcome.

lets hope theres some decent transfer requests on there fingers crossed

  • 3 Geordie Gerrard7 // Apr 26, 2008 at 18:04

i can honestly say im not that bothred, i feel withdrawn as the one player i wanted, we let slip from our grasp, not even signing someone like van der vaart could honestly cheer me up atm, im sure quite a few feel the same.

  • 4 Taiwantoon // Apr 26, 2008 at 18:09

Yes, we should get real. Diego is certainly out of our reach as his father has just recently said that he is not happy with the situation at bremen and his son is dreaming of playing in the Champs league.

Van der Vaart is also very difficult, but I feel there is a slight chance…well compared to the signing of Diego at least. After all, he shocked the football world when he went to HSV. Okay, I am dreaming but I need to do this to recover from the hang over this morning…

  • 5 Bobby Ollox // Apr 26, 2008 at 18:13

we are going to struggle to get really big players in next season - no european football, and no guarrantee of it the year after either.

The players we will get, will be those who can maybe sense something happening at Newcastle and want to be part of it. Will be a real test for Keegan to persuade talent here, rather than Spurs, or Villa. I think he can do it though - he is certainly more of an attraction than Big Sam ALardarse.
    an interesting summer ahead

  • 6 chuck // Apr 26, 2008 at 18:22

Soh! too bad about Modric, especially loosing out to Spurs, ah well!
Never mind aint the end of the world, just hope the team can attract a few top class names during the transfer window.

  • 8 CRAIGG // Apr 26, 2008 at 18:24

I hate Billard and Bullard aint much better either!

  • 9 Proud to be Black & White formaly know as John // Apr 26, 2008 at 18:26

    ( gutted about Modric )

  • 10 benboy // Apr 26, 2008 at 18:27

will we keep Zog now spurs have signed modric??

  • 11 Proud to be Black & White formaly know as John // Apr 26, 2008 at 18:28

benboy..Why keep a player that does’nt want to wear the jersey…

  • 12 benboy // Apr 26, 2008 at 18:31

true I agree but who else might want him, really dont think the talk of Arse wanting him is that true, even if Wenger rates him.

  • 13 big pea ov the weab // Apr 26, 2008 at 18:32

nzogbia is a good player wich i feel could be a realy top class player but if he dosent want to play then we have to get rid

  • 14 CRAIGG // Apr 26, 2008 at 18:33

Stevie Watson scored for Sheffield Wednesday today he deserved to wear the shirt not N’Nobbia, Well dont Stevo

  • 15 Tom_Toon // Apr 26, 2008 at 18:39

    Geordie Gerrard, are you mad?

van der Vaart is so much better than Modric.

  • 16 Thomas // Apr 26, 2008 at 18:40

Yeah felt really gutted watchin modric sitting in the stands at whl. And that too after KK’s comments of not competing against the big 4 but everyone else.. Thought he would be better prepared after the woody episode.. bloody spurs done it twice now!!

As someone said it aint the end of the world so cmon KK show them wht they missed being part of…

  • 17 scotty // Apr 26, 2008 at 18:44

Here, here Tom Toon. Van der vaart far far superior!!!

  • 18 Jack // Apr 26, 2008 at 18:46

and thats the difference, we had a chance of getting modric, we’ll never get van der vaart

  • 19 daiv // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:01

Who wants N’Nobbia if he does not want to play for us. he is not a top 4 team player and none of the big 4 will bid for him. Why? Because he’s a dribbler but has no vision. His head is down all the time watching the ball and he is not aware of the killer pass. A good dribbler with a gooo dshot (when its on target) is not good enough for the very best. he is not the veru best and we should get rid of the pain if he does not want to play for us. Apparently he is awkward with all our managers. S.d off.

  • 20 Nick C // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:04

Lads, do you not feel we will struggle to attract the top top players due to the fact we are not even in the UEFA cup? Geography doesn’t help either but there is nowt we can do about that.

We need a few proven premiership performers to get us back up there challenging for Europe. I think Ashton would be a decent place to start…

  • 21 boater // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:09

What about jefferson farfan.. I know an old toon link but has continued to blossom at psv and would bring pace, spark and creativity behind the strikers or down the right!!!!?

  • 22 Rich // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:12

Craigg, Gary Speed had a great day too. Don’t think he could quite cut it in the PL nowadays, but we shouldn’t have ousted him when we did.

  • 23 daiv // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:18

We cannot attract the very best because we are not in the Champions league. We can afford them and pay the wages.Forget the EUFA Cup. Do you think the very best are bothered about playing in little villages in Israel and norway and the like. A big game is against Fiorentina or some other rubbish team. We can’t fill our stadium for such rubbish and we’re not that interested til it gets to the semis.. The Uefa Cup means very little to the top players. They want Champions League and a team challenging for the league. We are still a million miles from that and will only attract old stars who are past it. But we will get there because we will make progress in the next few years. We will not be top 4 next season but perhaps in 2 or 3 years.

  • 24 Tom_Toon // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:22

    Katsouranis, enough said.

  • 25 spyro // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:29

i think we have to step up our chase for Veloso now we have lost Modric. He is the only player i feel we could get who is similar enough to make up for it

  • 26 Leo // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:31

    who the funk is n’bobbia?

    ya surelly mean n’zogbia?

  • 27 Leo // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:34

from now on i am determined not to get sucked in by transfer rumours etc… and just comment on whether they may be good,

not get excited until they are wearing the newcastle shirt.

although i do have a picture somewhere of berbatov in a toon shirt :-)

  • 28 adam // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:37

they say there going to smash the transfer record this summer and spend big cash on up and comeing and world class players but also players wih experiance then you should go for these players.
    Ricardo Quresma £15m
Ledley King swap for Charles N’zogbia
    Rafeal Van Der Vaart £15m
    Ruud Van Nisslerooy £10m
Phillip Lahm £8m or possible emre swap.
    = £ £48m
    get rid of these players
    rozenhal £3m
    duff £4m
    smith £6m
    diatte free
    carr free
    ameobi £3m
    = £16m
works out at NUFC spending £32m

tottenham have hinted ledley king can leave and knows owen , milner , s. taylor , barton and butt.

ruud van nisslerooy is not enjoying life in spain at the moment and might come back and have one more crack at the premiership. he knows owen , butt , van der vaartif he came to NUFC. and smith if he stays.

  • 29 Nick C // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:37

So Daiv, as you say we might get to the promised land of the champions league in 2/3 years. Fair enough, but what are we gonna do between that time? Our best bet is the Uefa Cup, surely? Modric seems happy enough to play in it next season.
Also, as a fan I would snap your hand off if we could get back there next season. Some of my favourite away trips were at Roma, Marseille, Lisbon and Alkmaar. Unfortunately we got humped in all of them but it got me out of BABYJAIL for a few days!!!!

  • 30 craig chisholm // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:40

look lads, you are all kidding yourselves if you think we will be getting any big names in. mort says he wont be splashing big cash and if you read the above quotes in this blog you will see that wisey and co’s list was full of young unknowns…….cos they are cheap. there will be no big names coming or thats what i keep reading into it.

  • 31 spyro // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:42

you mean you have a picture of him HOLDING a toon shirt.

Leo i can tell the Modric collapse has really disappointed you. I think we should put more effort into the Veloso deal now that we have lost Modric. They are similar in terms of workrate, passing ability (Yes i know Modric is a bit better in this field), and shooting. The only thing is Veloso cant really use his right foot that well. However, Veloso is better defensively, which is just what we need to replace Butt

  • 32 Nick C // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:43

Tom Toon, I am intrigued. Who would you go for? Let’s be realistic about it. I mean, I would have Gerrard but that aint gonna happen.

Also, I always preach buying players with Prem experience, whether foreign or British. What do u reckon to this?

  • 33 Tom_Toon // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:45

Id defintely go for Bruno Alves (CB) and Katousranis (CM) but i dont know who else.

The available people n the prem are either crap, past it, overrated. They are normally overpirced and overpaid too.

  • 34 Ashton // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:48

Aquilani is available he worth a cheeky bid imo
he would be the perfect replacement for geremi

Amoribieta will improve our defence he is smart and strong he is like laurent blanc!

  • 35 sebum gunter the primeape hunter // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:49

i caught a gorilla but it was actually emre and ameobi going at it in a monkey suit.

  • 36 Nick C // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:53

Tom Toon, I love reading your assessment of a lot of foreign players I have often never heard of but as a season ticket holder of 20 years I have only missed a handful of games and I could give you a pretty long list of Foreign Failures against those who have made it. Do you see my point?

  • 37 Taiwantoon // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:54

European football is a bonus, but I do not think it is the only factor. Van der vaart joined HSV in 2005, and they provided no European footy. I am sure there are plenty of other cases and lets not kid ourselves, it’s important but not everything.

We just need to show ambitions and directions. Ronaldhino joined Barca when they were in crisis. Okay, we are no Barca, but we are certainly bigger than HSV, aren’t we?

  • 38 Tom_Toon // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:56

Not now. He joined there to develop in a harder league He turned down man u, real madrid and inter milan.

  • 40 daiv // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:57

    Nick C
My point is that the top players could not care less about the Uefa Cup. I was answering somebody else about attracting players with Newcastle offering Euro footy. It has to be Champions League to get the best. Uefa footy will not. Enjoy your future trips to Bergen and Cyprus but the best stars will not be going. They’ll stay at Milan, Barca etc until we can offer them the San Siro.

  • 41 spyro // Apr 26, 2008 at 19:59

Aquilani would be class, but he is already getting (will be getting) champions league football with Roma, and they are mounting a bigger challenge in the league now. So i doubt he will want to move. Has anyone read Modrics comments about signing for spurs. There is no mention of europe, he is just happy to be playing in the premiership. We could of had him but we just didnt offer enough. Im a bit more disappointed now i have found that out.

  • 42 daiv // Apr 26, 2008 at 20:02

    Leo
You have misread it. I wrote N’Nobbia not N’Bobbia because he is a knob.

  • 43 Taiwantoon // Apr 26, 2008 at 20:02

You are right, but my point is that players have their own ideas and European football is not everything. Thus, I won’t rule ourselves out yet.

  • 44 Nick C // Apr 26, 2008 at 20:03

Daiv, I went to Milan as well - it was mint!! Get your point, I just reckon we need to walk b4 we run. Its gonna be impossible to get the best to come here at present, we gotta get the players to get up there first….

  • 45 sebum gunter the primeape hunter // Apr 26, 2008 at 20:04

peronaly the best player in my eyes is ronaldo

  • 46 daiv // Apr 26, 2008 at 20:04

    Adam
You are joking about us getting £6M for Smudger. I’d be pleased to get two bob for him from Hartlepool Reserves. And money for Duff?

  • 47 daiv // Apr 26, 2008 at 20:09

    Nick C
That is my point about walking before you run etc. Its just that most bloggers here expect us to sign the very best this summer and it will not happen. We’ve not won a domestic trophy since 1955 and the league since 1927. Why should the best come here when we are a very average mid to lower mid table team ….AT THE MOMENT?

  • 48 gary baldy // Apr 26, 2008 at 20:12

adam r u all there son

  • 49 ToonDaft // Apr 26, 2008 at 20:15

if that is the case Spyro, that we didnt offer enough it is a complete and utter disgrace! that would be very worrying, having a billionaire owner and supposed fan squabbling over a *mere* 1.5million - we will always have to settle for second best if we dont muscle up and release the purse-strings

  • 50 Ashton // Apr 26, 2008 at 20:15

    spyro

Aquilani is warming the bench for roma
they will sell him in the summer

so i think we have a chance of getting him
he is better and much stronger than modric

  • 52 Tom_Toon // Apr 26, 2008 at 20:21

Aquilani is one of Roma’s best players, he is going to Inter.

    Katsouranis please.

  • 53 51times // Apr 26, 2008 at 20:29

daiv - The main problem I see here is us not being able to compete with the teams who are currently trying to get into the UEFA Cup/ the top 4, which we should be able to do. And if the reason we didn’t get Modric is because we wouldn’t pay an extra £1.5/2m then f*ck this board because they lack ambition.

  • 54 Thomas // Apr 26, 2008 at 20:37

I cant believe spurs outbid us.. With no europe all we can offer is better money to attract good players. Whats really goin on i wonder..

Bottom line is money talks and hope someone reminds MA about it soon!!

  • 55 ToonDaft // Apr 26, 2008 at 20:39

sorry for repeat post Ed, but i posted this in wrong place before

i am genuinely shocked that Modric has opted for Spurs over the Toon and not coz of my obvious bias either - yes, the Spuds can offer Euro footie next season but in all reality is that really THAT much of a draw - of course, the CL is a major draw, but is the UEFA Cup, playing very average teams for the majority of it that enticing? Also, Spurs current team is NOT much more of a sexy option than the Toon - poor keeper imo, decent defence yes, BUT King and Woody are seriously injury prone and are the hub of that defence - would it surprise anyone for them to go missing for huge parts of any given season? They boast a very average midfield which of course Modric will boost. Berbatov, their number one star player and attraction is almost certainly going to be leaving in the summer as well!!!! Bent is disgustingly overrated on top of that! Lennon, one of last seasons most terrifying players, looks also set to be shipped out. So, all in all, unless Spurs are confident in signing several other Modric-calibre players this summer, i really don’t understand the attraction - their stadium aint as good, nor is their fanbase, and I mean no disrespect here, it is just reality. I genuinely think Modric may have made a bad move for his career if he has opted for Spurs over us - they are no more guaranteed Euro qualification than we are next season - maybe it was the lure of London - if so, fair enough and wish modric all the best but lets be honest, if he lives up to his potential he will be off in two seasons to a top top team

but, moving on, upset as I am, there are other players of equal and better ability levels in the sea that we may be pursuing - i just hope we have the ambition to at least test the water with the likes of Diego, Van Der Vaart and Moutinho - if we fail, we fail, at least we tried to sign top class players - just to throw a name into the ring that i haven’t really seen us linked with - Ronaldinho - now, now, I know it seems far too fanciful but he apparently would prefer Premiership footie than Serie A and if Man City is a realistic option for him, then why not us - thoughts? imagine him hitting a renaissance in the famous Black n White (ahem, NOT Juve)

also, keep up the good work Ed, this is the best Toon site on the web - I have been looking at this site for ages but the Modric fiasco has inspired me to join the debate - lol - excellent work!!

  • 62 51times // Apr 26, 2008 at 21:23

No we won’t. Keegan only wants players with premiership expierance so expect those 3-4 “world class” signings to be the likes of John Arne Riise and Anthony Gardner. Wow, massive club aren’t we..

  • 65 Andy1 // Apr 26, 2008 at 21:38

51times - don’t be such a knob. Because we didn’t get Modric, we’ll end up with Anthony Gardner. We’re all disappointed but no need to stupid about it.

And if Keegan only wants prem players, why were we even bidding for Modric. Why does he say that we will be looking at the best of the scottish league? Why does Keegan talk about the expertise of Jimenez and Vetere in Europe?

We’ll get over this setback and keep aiming at the other targets

  • 66 apan // Apr 26, 2008 at 21:46

WTF U ALL MOANING ABOUT!? GUTTED?!

He chooses SPURS over US, so get over it!

Dont blame the management or whatever they tried their best, they offered the same amount same everything, and we dont want to be hold ransom either by offering 20.5 mil so its a smart business, but in the end Modric chooses Spurs Over US! so get over it!

    WHY? PERHAPS-

    1 - London
2- SPURS won TROPHY this season, did we? that must be the the main lure because for sure this news is spreaded at Croatia, what news of us spreaded there except sacking of managers & bad press? Modric surely taking there as a good sign and yes spurs still ahead of us in the table
    3- No European Football
4- Juande Ramos is more known than KK nowadays, accept the fact the new generation esp outside UK dont know him that well
5- We were never in the driving seat, the press just sparked it up to raise his price simply cos they know we are desperate aka the fans esp seing the response today, again GET OVER IT!

and yeah VDV is a good player but i doubt it now (he could hv join 2 3 seasons back but now his attracting too much big teams) so lets focus on a more realistic target shall we??

KK is more realistic and i love him for making the comments cos it shows that his thinkin with his brain unlike some….the paper overhyped and the impatient fans blaming fingers at everyone its annoying…btw even martins is a benchwarmer at inter but his superb KK know what he wants so stop all this nonsense sulkin or childish moaning, gutted, its sickening really!

Dont put ur hopes too high u end up crashing gutted watever, its not wrong to be ambitious but when u said the sky is the limit, than u must be dreamin, just focus and support ur team and hope for the best! this is not FOOTBALL MANAGER!

    GET IN ARSHAVIN!

  • 67 51times // Apr 26, 2008 at 22:11

Oh the Scottish league, well nevermind Modric and Van der Vaart then!

  • 68 Andy1 // Apr 26, 2008 at 22:15

Just saying Keegan will not just be looking at big 4 rejects…and the Croatian league is hardly fantastic either is it!

You may have seen more of Modric than I have, but personally I can’t be too gutted about a player I don’t even know. Spurs beating us is hard to take though.

  • 69 Sean // Apr 26, 2008 at 22:26

I herd we are on the verge of signing klass jan huntelaar :):):)

Here are sum players i think we hav a chance at tho:

    -moutinho
    -aquiliani
    -diego
    -van der vaart
    -kompany
    -deco
    -metzelder
    -flamini
    -lennon (swap for n’zog)

  • 70 Tom_Toon // Apr 26, 2008 at 22:35

Of that list we have a chance at:
    Lennon
    Metzelder
    Moutinho
    Deco (mabye)
    Aquiliani (maybe)

  • 71 macakane // Apr 26, 2008 at 22:40

Ameobi will shoot us in Top 4 next season.

  • 72 Andy1 // Apr 26, 2008 at 22:41

Tom_Toon, I always thought Moutinho was going to be moving to one of the really big teams in Europe. I trust you when you say we have a chance in signing him so, how good is here? What type of player is he?

  • 73 Nobby's dad // Apr 26, 2008 at 22:59

Why don’t we look at Neri Cardozo at Boco Juniors. He’s better than Modric and younger. An absolute gem who outshone Messi when in the Argie youth side. Go get him Kev

  • 74 Tom_Toon // Apr 26, 2008 at 23:01

Moutinho is just a clever player. Great passer and crosser. Works hard for the tesm and has good ball control.

Not particularly fast , strong or skillful but his brain is a step ahead of everyone elses.

Fabregas is the player most similar to him.

  • 75 ToonKing // Apr 26, 2008 at 23:05

lol sean your an optmistic person i see.

    diego
    -van der vaart
    -kompany
    -flamini
no chance in hell to get these players.

Metzelder,Aquilani, Deco and Moutinho we have the same chances as we had for Modric., could happen but probably not.

Lennon is the only really realistic player on the list for us……….and i’m not sure i would like him at all.

I have heard some rumours that Michael Ballack will be on his way to Newcastle in the summer as he will be surplus to requirements once Chelski have recruited for next season….

  • 79 Nick C // Apr 26, 2008 at 23:39

toon4lyf i reckon u got it spot on

  • 80 51times // Apr 26, 2008 at 23:47

No seriously guys you seen what Andy1 wrote, obviously the answers to our problems are in Scotland, let’s sign Gretna’s midfield, we’ll finish top 4 no problem.

  • 81 Tom_Toon // Apr 26, 2008 at 23:55

What about Ivanschitz, realistic, cheap and decent.

  • 82 Rich // Apr 27, 2008 at 0:09

I’m probably about to be ridiculed, but would anyone else be (relatively) happy to see us poach McFadden or Larsson from Birmingham?

  • 83 Nick C // Apr 27, 2008 at 0:43

Rich - that is exactly where i amcoming from

  • 84 Tom_Toon // Apr 27, 2008 at 0:43

Larsson yes but why do we need McFadden.

  • 85 ToonDaft // Apr 27, 2008 at 2:14

Ashley has to dig deep and show his intent and ambition! yes, he has been a marvel in clearing debt etc, but no point in only going half-way is there! come on MA, give the Toon fans something to really sing about! one big name signing, the rest will follow as example of club’s intent will have been made

  • 86 Toon_Ksk // Apr 27, 2008 at 2:36

I like Daiv’s realistic view. We will attain Champions League football and we will do it step by step.

  • 87 Soulja boi // Apr 27, 2008 at 4:08

But the problem is that if we can’t sign quality players all we will do is tread water. We need some serious cash splashing otherwise we will be making up the numbers yet again. All this mediocrity has to come to an end. Show some bloody ambition ffs!

  • 88 nufctj // Apr 27, 2008 at 4:20

We should never be surprised when a player like Modric chooses a London club such as Spurs over NUFC. (Well maybe if that club happens to be Charlton). At any rate. Our best bet this summer is to find gems in the rough so to speak, players that are under other clubs radar, if we get into contests with clubs that have a European spot or are viewed as more glamorous than us, we are going to lose 9 times out of 10. Until we actually earn our “big club” title, we should not expect to land “big name” players. I was not at all shocked or “gutted” that we did not get Modric. We go on a bit of a run, and some of the people on here think we are all of a sudden equal with Barcelona and Arsenal. Apparently we are not even on par with Spurs. No one can deny that Spurs are viewed as a more glamorous club than us. Especially with their new Euro coach. In the words of Morrisey, sort of “We just haven’t earned it yet baby, and I’m telling you why”. The “why” is no silverware since before most of us were born! I am very irritated by those who claim they are gutted becasue we did not land Modric. As soon as I heard there were other clubs involved I figured we would not get him. As if this player has proven himself at all. He could be a total flop. Those who think Ashley should shell out 15- 20 million pounds on players that are unproven in top European league are batty. f we do that we will end up broke and relegated. When Abramovich bought chelsea, did they go after players like Modric? No they did not, they spent ridiculous amounts of money on buying players. Players that were already top rated. We must be patient and build our squad and our club with prudent signings while developing our own superstars over time.

  • 90 apan // Apr 27, 2008 at 6:28

finally some sensible comments,we did offer the same amount and both accepted but in the end Modrid choose Spurs, again get over it! even KK give a hint before http://www.sportinglife.com/football/premiership/newcastle/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=soccer/08/04/25/SOCCER_Newcastle_Nightlead.html&TEAMHD=newcastle&DIV=prem&TEAM=NEWCASTLE&RH=Newcastle&PREV_SEASON=

hurm what we really need now is a big centreback, a leftback and one creative midfielder or perhaps LM if zogbia leave, and another striker to cover for mark viduka, if his injured its a big prob i dont think carroll ready to fill in the boots yet but he got potential to do so

    Van Buyten - yes
    Metzelder - yes
    Bridge - maybe
    Bullard - not too sure
Larson - would be good on the right imo
McGeedy - think he’s a shithead but talented
Moutinho(perhaps) - probably off to man u but i would like him
Diego (perhaps) - doubt he’d come but yes if we could get him
Samir Nasri - not too sure about him really, haven’t seen him enough
Neri Cardozo (hidden raw talent) - never seen him, can’t comment
Farfan (martin type) - not sure where we’d put him
Dean Ashton - proven PL player but how much would we have to pay?
Huntelaar (perhaps) - Doubt he’d come and we don’t really need another striker

    to the rest no obviously

Here is a realistic team for next season

    —————–Given———————-
    Beye—Taylor—–Metzelder—Bridge
    Milner—Emre—-Moutinho—Boussoufa
    ———Martins—Owen————–

Subs: Harper, Edgar, Faye, Butt, Barton,LuaLua, Carroll

Looks good and with that team, I really expect us to get into UEFA Cup

  • 94 51times // Apr 27, 2008 at 7:57

emre and moutinho? Who protects the back four?

  • 95 Midjew // Apr 27, 2008 at 8:28

Been thinking alot about which players we can REALISTICALLY get.

Well couple of things that Keegan said he wanted was PREM experience.

I think Few Players that fit the bill are:

Jermaine Pennant - He has been playing so well, and he shines a bit at liverpool who have a great team, so i do think in Our team he would play brilliant. He plays JUST how keegan would want: DIRECT, ATTTACKING and he is good with his feet. He sets up ALOT of goals.

We could have him on Right wing and James Milner on Left wing.

    That Sounds Good.

    THEN…

As a LB we could get Shorey, ESPECIALLLY ig Reading get relegated.

Him and Enrique can fight it out. Shorey is Also and Attacking LB SOOOOO could be used more as a Wing Back. Nice and Attacking again.

Then maybe for a bit more of a Creative Midfielder is Downing!!!

He is so good to watch and is TOOOOO good for Middlesborough.

I think all of these are Reasonanble choices BUT would DEFINATLY improve our squad ALOT!!!!!!!

    WAT U ALL THINK????????

    ——Given——–
    Beye–Taylor–Faye–Shorey
    Pennant–Downing–Milner
    ———Owen———–
    —-Viduka—Martins—–

  • 96 michael // Apr 27, 2008 at 8:37

There is loads of talent floating around the premiership kicking it’s heels and pouting moodily cos it’s not getting to play. I’m glad to see that KK isn’t interested in squad players, something I felt that BSA was very guilty of last summer (showing his inexperience with money to spend).

    Shaun Wright Philips
    Aaron Lennon
    Elano
    John O’Shea
    Wayne Bridge
    Theo Walcott
    Stewart Downing

I am aware that signing any of these guys would be something of a coup, but that is really what it takes to improve in the EPL. I don’t watch a great deal of football outside of the EPL or CL (Not even really bothered about the UEFA cup if i’m honest unless we’re in it and it’s near the end). Hence I haven’t seen a lot of the guys people talk about. I’m not really disappointed about Modric, when I youtubed him i didn’t see anything to put him in the same price range as Michael Owen. (Even if Owen is made entirely from biscuits!)

  • 97 Cyprus Mag // Apr 27, 2008 at 8:43

With our disadvantages compared with Spurs the only way we can compete with them is by selling our dream. Who is the best person to do that? Cross eyed Wise or King Kev.

  • 98 toonbarmy // Apr 27, 2008 at 9:46

Stephen Appiah as a replacement for Nicky Butt. Powerfull, experienced and scores goals. Plays a bit like Essien in midfield. He may leave Fenerbahçe for Premier League football.

  • 99 Knightbobmoncur // Apr 27, 2008 at 10:13

I am in complete agreement with the SO WHAT MODRIC DIDNT SIGN Brigade.

The comments that we didnt offer enough are hard to believe. But if we didnt offer enough, so what!!

KK gets final say on signings, if KK thought he was worth what spuds payed, he would be being paraded at a press conference on Monday at St Jmes’.

I think KK, Wise, jiminez & vetere, between them will have enough nous to know when a player is worth the asking price and is worth bidding higher for!!

Eg. Modric worth 16m?? Maybe but no more…
Diego worth 16m yes defininitely and upto 18
Van Der Vaart 16m definitely and up to 20m….

    Simple business thinking.

Remember these are just examples. But like i said we have some very astute people in important roles at the club (IMO) and they have laid out their rules of business early……..”We wont be held to ransom for EPL unproved players”.
