Martins Saves Newcastle From Their Slumber

For the first time in a long time, a number of Newcastle players didn’t turn up for the game at West Ham yesterday, at least not at the start.

Oba Martins – went 100% from the first whistle

It was like days of old as there seemed to be only one team on the park for the first 40 minutes of yesterday’s game. And West Ham went ahead by 2-0 through goals from Noble and Ashton before Newcastle woke up.

In all honesty it could, and probably should, have been more than two.

That was the disappointing thing about yesterday’s game. And we’re not sure how much the absense of Faye had to do with the poor start, although it looks young Edgar was again drafted into the team at the last minute.

After the game Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan said:

“I’d sooner be a lucky manager than a good one, to be honest,’”

“Alex Ferguson’s a very lucky manager. We didn’t deserve to be 2-2, but second half we showed a bit of character.”

“ West Ham started the brighter and, with the run of play, they took a deserved lead.”

But to Newcastle’s credit Martins got them right back in the game with a great opportunist goal after 42 minutes, when he quickly got the ball and had it past Green before the West Ham goalkeeper knew what had happened.

Then just before half time, Martins had a blockbuster of a shot that somehow Geremi directed with his head past Green and Newcastle were amazingly level 2-2 at the break.

But a Kevin Keegan team will always be able to score goals and so it was yesterday.

For us, our best man yesterday was Oba Martins, who scored one and made one and worked his socks off. He looked menacing throughout and anybody watching could see what a match-winner this guy can be in the future, when he gets even better.

Kevin admitted after the game he’s never seen anybody like Oba as he said:

“He’s a real one-off. I’ve never handled a player like him,” “He does fantastic things and he is more of a team player now.”

We really hope Kevin makes Martins part of his plans for next season, because this boy is just too good to have play a bit role at Newcastle. But hey, did anyone else notice Oba didn’t do his customary somersault after the goal?

Say it aint so Oba! 😀

Martins is class, he is a player who can make something out of nothing. Just like he did yesterday with Geremi’s goal

On the issue of Modric. It all seems a good idea to have Denis Wise dealing with our transfers, allowing KK to get on with the 1st team. But, are there others of the same opinion as me that if KK had met him and sold the club and future to him like he used to do the fist time round, then this guy would have signed for us as apposed to Spurs. I really think so.
I dont mean KK sitting in on all the deals, just the big ones. We have missed out on a great player who has decided to join Spurs who are nowhere near the club we are.
Also, I hope we did not lose out because we were trying to get him on the cheap. If the player is good enough, sometimes you must just pay the asking price and move on to the next one.
I really hope this is not going to be how our summer dealings are going to pan out. NUFC making the first move only to lose out to another club at the end.

The main issue was us not giving them the £20m like they wanted, so I don’t think it matters about keegan selling the club. Anyway let’s just forget about it.

No Bryan KK would not have landed him. Spurs have a trophy, european football, european manager, and have performed better than us in the last few years in the league. That is all that the player will see when comparing us and they will choose Spurs. simple. However, we didn’t even get to contract negotiations with Modric as our bid was REJECTED. So all this talk of Modric snubbing us is ridiculous. Maybe he would have anyway, but it doesnt matter as we didnt reach that stage.

Showed we need more guts in midfield. They beat the system but only because our defending was so pussy. Watching the chelsea/man u game every runner was hassled and passer closed down. We let them have way too much space and payed dearly for it. Well need to be twice as good against chelsea next week as they will still be playing for the title.

Martins didn’t do the somersault because we were 2-1 down and we needed another goal so he thought it best to just get on with it. And another goal arrived soon after. Thumbs up to that decision.

Well, on the Modric thing…He obviously wants to walk into a team & walk into euro football…Doesn’t show much balls, does it?..Bit lazy if you ask me!..
…We need players that are gonna work to get us in europe, not just walk in & expect it…Wrong attitude!..We’re probably better off without!..
    …Microwave footballer!..
…Doesn’t wanna cook(work)…Just wants to press a button & wait for the ‘ping’!..
    …spuds are welcome to that!..

Why should we feel so hard for failing to sign Luka Modric?

Yes, he may be a good acquisition for us base on his ability but i still think 15mil is too risky for a player who never play in EPL before. Still remember Hugo Viana, Silvio Maric and Albert Luque? Are they consider great before they joined us. Sometimes even player with proven record like Shevchanko, Henry, Bianchi can’t even produces the same form at different league. Therefore, right player must get at the right price.

Our current squad + KK as a manager should be able to achieve at least European cup by next season. So, we shouldn’t feel disadppointed if player don’t join us now.

Look at Martin’s goal against West Ham. Do you think we can get this kind of player easily out there now?

I am glad he didn’t do his somersault, I think he should find another goal gesture. It’s way too risky!

I think KK should stop him completely from doing the somersault.

    Where’re Martins’ boo-boys now?

This lad is fantastic, we all know of his raw ability, and throughout this season(even under the moron Allardyce) he showed a tamer side than last season.

Yes he misses chances, but how many other players would be quick/strong/skillful enough to get into the positions he gets into?

Obafemi Martins is young, very young and has easily got the opportunity to become a true great.

If our signings pay off in the summer and we can get a team built around him, he will not leave.

If we have a team built around this superstar, can you see anyone stopping him? Defenders are scared of him, I take you back to the SUnderland game, he was fouled within a minute.

Haway Oba, stick with the toon and I’ll stick a bet on you to break Shearer’s record!!

There’s only one Oba Martins, one Oba Martins, there’s only one Oba Martins!!

yes we need better and consistent service for martins. we need to forge a great solid understanding in the team, so each team players knows what the other prefers and how each other plays.
