Newcastle Have Failed In Three Transfer Attempts

Kevin Keegan is starting to show a little frustration in the transfer market as he revealed today that Newcastle have gone for 3 players, and missed out on all three.

Kevin Keegan – 0-3 so far in the transfer market

It’s clear that Newcastle have to spend wisely in the transfer market this summer, but they also have to convince the top players that Newcastle is a good place for them to come to, after a couple of seasons when we have been underwhelming in the league.

The Newcastle manager thinks that owner Mike Ashley shares his view that the squad is just not big enough right now to compete for a top 6 spot, so the plan is to bring more players in than we let go this summer.

But it doesn’t look like we’ve made an impressive start to the transfer market as Kevin Keegan said today:

“We’ve only got a small squad and I think that’s one of the reasons we struggled because I have to use the same players. It’s been the same for the past seven games,”

“We’ve only got the league as we’re not in Europe, but we’ve got two kids at the back so we’ve got to strengthen. If the owner thinks that just these players can go on next season – and I know he doesn’t – then he’d be misguided.”

“I was supposed to have gone for lunch with Modric, but I can’t remember it. We’ve earmarked about 20 players, he’s one of the best midfielders in the world and the right age, but at the moment – and it’s a sad thing – we’ve gone for three players and lost all three.”

Newcastle fans will just need to be more realistic and accept that foreign players often prefer a London club.

It’s a cosmopolitan city and easier to settle down there, but we’re also sure that we can attract the right players to Newcastle, so that our squad will be much improved come August – we’re quite sure of that.

Comments welcome.

It seems like my application for MS. Applied to many top ranked universities, snubbed by most of them. But got a couple of calls recently. The same will happen with our transfer list, we will get only 2-3 of those players (if they are well above avg)

its crap lossing out on these players, but atleast you can say because they prefer london clubs, they wont of been right for us, therefore their signing for us wouldnt be a good as it would seem. sol campbell apparently. hope we sign some great players soon 🙂

Tottenham have Lennon, Zokora, Tainio, Jenas, Malbranque, Bale, Boateng, Huddlestone, O’Hara & Gilberto that have all played in middfield this season so Modric will be there 11th midfield player.

Just because we have a billionaire owner doesn’t mean we should over pay for players.

We were being asked for £25 million for a player that was worth £15 million, and was sold to Spurs for that price.

If we had paid the £25 million, then the next club would have demanded that much for their player saying well we paid it for Modric so we should pay them too.

    Never ending cycle.

Ashley is a shrewd businessman and didn’t get where he is by over paying for assets.

Like anyone I would have liked Modric, but there’s plenty more great players available, and KK will build a dynasty.

The players were rumoured to be Modric, Campbell and Diarra according to the BBC gossip. Don’t know why we tried for Diarra he only moved to Portsmouth in January.

Iam not too dissapointed at missing out on Modric i am yet to be convinced that his style will set the prem alight and 25 million is a joke we will sign players but i beleive players who with us can become world class stars not coming to us with that tag remember ginola he want a 25 mill signing and gillespie was a utd reject but kikn kev has the ability to take a peice of coal and craft it into a diamond have faith we dont need crazily inflated egos or signings just promising young talent that kev can make great.

kk needs to get more involved in transfers instead of leaving it to wise,kk can sell the club to players wise carnt he knows nowt about our club..

Modric has said that he was persuaded to sign for Spurs by talking to Ramos. Does this not prove a point that KK MUST be able to talk to these players we are after. Yes its a good idea to have Denis Wise dealing with the nitty gritty of the talks, but only KK can sell this club to anyone.
If we have lost out on 3 players already then questions need to be asked about the people trying to make the deals. This should all lead back to KK being in on the talks.

The rumours are Campbell and Diarra.
These are rumours from January, and do not neccesarily mean we have missed out on three players recently! However, it is likely that the three players were Barnes, Woodgate and Modric!!

The Sun is the master of bull poo speculation!! They guess to sell papers.

    Van der vaart

These are all better than Modric anyway, we should try for any one of these.

After the Modric saga will NZogbia still be wanted at Spurs? If he is or ever was. Apart from the bench where would he fit in? KK never mentioned Diarra or Campbell. Am developing a theory – if its in the Mirror, Sun or NOWT ignore it. And read between the lines if Oliver writes it, OK? Why Woodgate? He opted for them in preference to us and that after asking if we would reserve his shirt number for him should he return. Why should we chase after over-inflated egos who want us to provide them with bicycle pumps as well as fat salaries? KK will get it right and the Daily Mirror bullshite for all will get it wrong.

I think we should focus on signing Veloso myself, think he could do very well for us. I don’t think we could get Diego or Van der Vaart in, how does Arshavin play in the middle as a playmaker? Is he better on the left? I’d like McGeady on the left despite my dislike of him as a person.

The third player we missed out on was lubos kaboul czech youngster went to juventus.I think the process of wise looking at players then reverting back to keegan and waiting for keegan to have a look is taking twice as much time.Keegan should be scouting players aswell and hopefully we go for some other top youngdters like de santos off barca, aguero off athletico, kompany off anderlecht or lulinha off brazil.Did arsenal buy that icelandic chap Kolbeinn Sigthorsson cuz i heard he is suppose to be the sh1t.

these headlines get more and more depressing – but there are plently more players out there and its good to know that we are already looking to take these players before the seasons up. Also like the fact that Keegan said its the right age he was looking for, being – 22.

So the list that we keep dreaming of ….moutinho, veluso, bently, mcgready, menez and other young prospects, like emmaulson, might be more realistic targets that we thought pre modric.

Although upsetting to miss out on him and especially to spurs, the good thing is there are so many young european players out there who could walk into our team, so am not too worried about modric.

However after not expecting to be in the running on Modric its given me a taste for more, which is more than likely going to lead for a frustrating season with the transfers, but maybe when we get one, a whole load will follow!

lubos kalouda went to CSKA Moscow not Juventus and Kompany plays for Hamburg. No chance of getting either Aguero or Dos Santos and Lulinha would probably have problems getting a work permit and would need to be loaned abroad for a few seasons. Kompany is a maybe though but he would be quite expensive. Think Chelsea are after Van Der Vaart

Geordie Gerrard7 my bad just made it easier to tink he choose a bigger team over us.Keegan said there recently that he didnt mind paying 25m for a player. So would love a bid for kompany, veleso and huntelaar.Havent seen moutinho play but would love van der vaart over all them the guy is phenomenal.

So now we cant attract class players?… Wow your spirit dies as fast as it rise Ed.

Ofc we can… Take a look at this whole deal, we could have closed before spurs were ever given the chance, but we failed to pay what they wanted. Hopefully our chariman and negotiators will learn from this, and chances will come again… Its not like Modric is a walking wonder, which like has never graced the earth before. Actually there are quite a load of midfielders out there these days, which could be available and who has class.

I don’t think we could get Menez.

Also I’d say Newcastle is a cosmopolitan city, or at least is slowly becoming one. We have people from all over who come for uni and for the weekend to sample the night life. No offence here Ed, but you don’t even live here anymore, right? So I think I’m in a better place to judge.
