The Sun reports today that Newcastle are after both Dean Ashton of West Ham United and Leighton Baines of Everton.

Leighton Baines - struggled at Everton this season
Leighton Baines was presumably a target for us last summer, along with Wayne Bridge and Nicky Shorey for the left back spot, but we eventually paid £6.2M for Jose Enrique who is turning out to be a good player at the club, now that Kevin has given him a long run in the side.
But Leighton, who is 5′7″ tall, has struggled at Everton and is unable to get a regular starting spot, so we wonder if the boy is good enough for Newcastle. He’s appeared just 19 times for the Toffees this season after playing for Wigan Athletic 145 times and scoring 4 goals.
But he’s the right age at just 23 years old, and played for the England Under-21 side 16 times and scored one goal.

Dean Ashton - looks the part but is injury prone
We think striker Dean Ashton, who is 24, could be a success at Newcastle because he’s a natural goalscorer, very much in the vein of an Alan Shearer, but not as good or prolific.
But we think Keegan could mold Ashton into a very good goalscorer at the club, by taking his natural goalscoring ability and playing to his strengths. But Dean also seems to be injury prone, and that’s the exact same problem we have with Mark Viduka, so there’s a doubt about Dean being a good buy, as far as we are concerned.
We think Baines would be available, but it may be a lot more difficult to prise Ashton away from West Ham United.
What do you think about these two players - are they good enough?
Comments welcome.

Baines is, not sure about lazy boy Ashton.
Sky Sports are reporting we are set to make a 14million bid for Gomis by the way
2 MattyDread // Apr 29, 2008 at 11:25
I think Ashton would be a good signing and is exactly the king of centre forward we need to compliment our current crop of strikers.
3 Eric // Apr 29, 2008 at 11:26
I wish people would confine the Sun newspaper to the toilet wall. Why oh why do we want or need Ashton or Baines? I thought KK was supposed to be seeking real quality. If Baines is not good enough for Everton why is he considered an option for NUFC? Ashton, compared to Owen, Martins and Carroll is not even at the races. Just another load of porridge and chips from the media folks.
4 Taiwantoon // Apr 29, 2008 at 11:27
They could improve our squad, but just not that sexy as new signings.
5 Fernando // Apr 29, 2008 at 11:27
No more injury prone players. waste of space. GOMIS!!!!! We need(not just want) a double digit person to take the slack of owen and martins if they’re not on fire.

ashton always injured ,well is that the same as
owen not much said about that now .

gomis is class
9 HeronMag // Apr 29, 2008 at 11:34
Shearer had some terrible injuries but no on ever said he was prone to injury. I like Ashton and I’d be delighted if we signed him.
But I’m also a big fan of Bafe Gomis. He really looks the part and is a better all round player than Ashton.
Buy them both!
10 HonoraryGeordie // Apr 29, 2008 at 11:37
I have always said, and will always say - “Ashton is the best signing we could possibly make!”. I think the guy is genius, and playing alongside people like Owen and Martins, he would shine and show just how good he is! If we have the slightest chance of getting him then we should go all out and offer him the world!
If we do get him, you people saying he isn’t good or sexy-football enough will be made to look rather stupid! He is brilliant!
11 Geordie Gerrard7 // Apr 29, 2008 at 11:37
my mate recons that gomis is alot better than adebayor was, and hell of alot better at a younger age then drogba
12 Hamas (51times) // Apr 29, 2008 at 11:37
We already have a young LB in Enrique, need a slightly older and more experienced LB for him to learn from imo. Not Riise though as I think he’s past it, plus he doesn’t really want to leave liverpool.
Also, Gomis > Ashton
13 SHEARER // Apr 29, 2008 at 11:40
i DONT RECKON THEY WOULD TAKE A STEP DOWN AND JOIN US AT THIS STAGE OF THERE CAREERS. i THINK WE SHOULD REALISTICLY BE LOOKING AT PLAYES IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP AND AT THOSE WHOSE TEAMS WILL BE RELEGATED.
14 ScottyT // Apr 29, 2008 at 11:40
gomis yes, ashton maybe.. not both dont need many more strikers man
15 Ross G // Apr 29, 2008 at 11:40
Baines no he is an average LB we should be aiming higher Shorey & Bridge are better. Ashton is a good CF to have but again I think we are missing out on a top top player in that role for a cheaper price - Eidur Gudjohnsen. Great target man but also very creative scores and has that match winning ability.
16 Geordie Gerrard7 // Apr 29, 2008 at 11:42
i think gomis and arshavin will be our two first signings, i think we will then test the water with a bid for van der vaart

24 Eric // Apr 29, 2008 at 11:57
It seems Alan Oliver is running the Dunne story.
Is he any better than what we have got already?
It seems that we are getting further down KK’s list - and we do not actually know who is on it. Also the media seem to know more about it than Mort, Ashley and Kevin and co. What’s new.
25 Gooderz // Apr 29, 2008 at 11:57
There is a quote from Lucho on Setanta saying that he wants to prove himself in other leagues so we have a chance. He’s only admitted an interest in Athletico because they have been heavily linked to him, but that move may depend on Maxi Rodriguez moving. At least that’s Lucho’s view.

Wiese

Baines is a bit small. Ashton is a good striker - I would be pleased if we signed him.
28 Hamas (51times) // Apr 29, 2008 at 12:09
Wiese - Why would we get another keeper?
Beye
Cuellar - Would be alright I think.
Mertsacker - Would quite like him.
Lahm - LOL
Boussoufa - too lightweight, wouldn’t last
Diego - Very doubtful that he’d come.
Barton
Arshavin
Owen
Huntelaar - Again, wouldn’t come.
Subs
Gomis - Yes please.
Enrique
Martins
Given
Barnes - Injury prone knee, waste of money.
29 ToonDaft // Apr 29, 2008 at 12:16
ashton is far too injury prone - why bother with another potential sick-note for our club?
also, Baines aint good enough for Everton so why should we settle - we are surely trying to catch them next season, not sign their flops. Shorey and Bridge are surely available and are both better - would be pleased with Gomis though, I have heard from several people in France that he really is the business, even for 14 million
30 Faustino // Apr 29, 2008 at 12:29
Here we go again… can we try and keep these approaches out of the press until we’ve signed the player for gods sake… you’ll notice that not many clubs are singualry linked with a player as much as we are and with as much details of bid amounts etc. ?
31 Jim // Apr 29, 2008 at 12:30
Bridge or Riise over Baines
Ashton is a good prospect but a gamble. If we can rely on Viduka and Carrol, I would take the risk. Would Gomis fit in any better?
SONE ALUKO - Sign him up!
32 autibo // Apr 29, 2008 at 12:35
Ashton has played more games than Viduka this season and maybe he’s now starting to overcome his injury problems. I dont recall people saying Shearer was “too injury prone” so maybe we should give him a chance at a higher level. Seems to have the physique to play alongside Oba for many years. Personally I’d rather see Huntelaar though, if we could persuade him to come. Gomis my 3rd choice after these two.
Midfield I’d like to see any two from V.D.Vaart, Arshavin, Michael Johnson, Mbia, Toulalan or Lucho.
Sven looks like he’s away, anybody fancy taking a big-money shot for Richards, Dunne and Johnson?? Get it done on the hush-hush!!
33 Hamas (51times) // Apr 29, 2008 at 12:41
Gomis is third choice? Just because Ashton is English don’t let that blind you - he is an average player in an average team.
34 ToonDaft // Apr 29, 2008 at 12:43
you’re exactly right Faustino! i would much prefer to just come online and discover we have signed a cracker - let’s hope that since we havent been linked, we are on the cusp of announcing Diego or/and (lol) VDV

36 ToonRich // Apr 29, 2008 at 12:44
From what I have seen of Gomis, he’s a strong powerful forward, with two good feet
He’s perhaps similar to Oba in that he can run with the ball at pace and scored a variety of goals…I would be happy if we signed him
especially if he is better than Drogba & Adebayor!

Taylor
Metzelder
Bridge
Lennon
Butt
Diego, VDV or Moutinho (in that order if possible)
McGyver
Owen
Gomis
Subs
Martins
Dukes
Enrique
Geremi
Faye
Possible 1-2 to many first team changes for 1 season, but a good team with creativity and wings as fast as lightning with solid backs to cover for them.
41 geoffo // Apr 29, 2008 at 12:51
Gomis has more pace than Aston, imagine a forward line of Owen, Gomis and Martins! Defences would be diging trenches!!!

44 HonoraryGeordie // Apr 29, 2008 at 13:27
I think anyone writing team sheets without Martins does not go to the games! He is our No. 9, he and Owen should be certain starters next year. Any transfers should be made to improve what we have, not replace our best players with similar quality!!
Our team is good already, the people who are in doubt:
Given/Harper - Both set to fight it out with each other - no replacements
Beye - need a back up instead of Jimmy Carr
Taylor - He is our future Captain, but needs someone class next to him
Faye - solid, but needs replacing with pure class
Enrique - very very good potential, need an old head to teach him the ropes - Bridge anyone?
Geremi - needs replacing with a young creative rocket!
Butt - excellent defensive cover, but would a younger bigger stronger faster player not make us a more mobile force?
Barton - very good footballer, maybe too slow in a more creative team? and also isn’t he gonna be picking up soap at her majestys pleasure soon?
Martins - Our No. 9 and our rough diamond! his pace is irreplaceable and his ability to pull something from nowhere is a real crowd pleaser
Owen - Captain and link up man, team should be built round him and Martins
Dukes - Class on his day, but much better out there! Never seen Gomis but he must be worth a shot, I would personally prefer Ashton!
The team needs refining not replacing! We have better players than Everton, yet they build a team around Yakubu, Cahill, Arteta, Yobo, Lescott and Howard - we should follow suit and not just go for the star players!!!

HonoraryGeordie… I watch plenty of games and Oba wouldnt get near my first 11 if we buy a good option alongside owen. He is selfish to the point that he is a liability at times, trying impossible shots when a good passing oportunity is an option. He lacks vision and football intelligens, and his control is down right bad!, he dosnt get nearly enough out of his pace, because he isnt able to read the game better and run BEFORE the ball is passed… He does have lots of good sides to his game, which i am sure you are aware of, but anyone able to look past the wonder goals and analyse his general game would tell you the same.
And BTW, its Steven Carr…
47 valle // Apr 29, 2008 at 13:44
And in regards to the number 9, i think its a joke he got it… Makes it rather ordinary, since you aperently dont have to be a top class striker when you arrive to get it.
48 Geordie Gerrard7 // Apr 29, 2008 at 13:46
valle, shhut up man. look at yourself.
49 valle // Apr 29, 2008 at 13:57
Why on earth should i shut up?, Try to be a bit constructive if you dont agree with my view… But i guess that would take a bit of brain activity
50 HonoraryGeordie // Apr 29, 2008 at 13:57
Firstly i kind of knew that the little fat irish kid that sometimes gets into our great team has the first name of steven, the point i was making is he is so comical to watch, he could in fact be confused with the fat comedian, Jimmy Carr!
Now Martins, not a good player before he came?!? I take it you don’t watch Champions League football? Or watch any football of any other league? He gets the crowd excited, scores great goals, drags defenses all over the place to give other players space, runs the channels, jumps a mile and heads the ball, works to get the ball back and plays with his heart on his sleave! People complain about people like Kluivert and the Zog for picking up big wages and not wanting to play for the club, then we get a young lad who can only get better, loving the club, and you want him replaced! As I said, maybe you should watch the whole game, not the few times he *Gasp* makes a bad decision!?!
51 HonoraryGeordie // Apr 29, 2008 at 13:59
Cheers GeordieGerrard
52 valle // Apr 29, 2008 at 14:07
First of all, when you start your comment by declaring that all that dosnt agree with your view about Martins dosnt go to matches, then you gotta be prepared to receive the same back!… Second of all, backing a baboon who cant argue and simply throwes out such well thought statements as “shut up” takes you down to his level. So now you and me, who support the same team, cant argue on whether Martins should be in the starting 11 without going into kindergarden motion?… so sad
Now to the football matters… If you indeed watch as much football as you state, then you would know that he was a bit time player at Inter (We properly wouldnt get him if he wasnt) and imo the number 9 just comming off the great Shearer should either be retired till someone proved its worth, or go to a legend in the making like Owen. I like to have Oba at the club, make no mistake about that. But i would rather see a 4-4-2 with fast wings and a big little combo with Owen as the little guy in attack.
53 Hamas (51times) // Apr 29, 2008 at 14:12

valle oba is our top scorer, and he is still young this lad will be a legend
60 HonoraryGeordie // Apr 29, 2008 at 14:21
seriously valle, even talking as if this is an argument is pathetic. Backing a baboon?! I said cheers out of politeness…and anyway, i am more than prepared to discuss my views, hence why i put them so forthright, I am a huge fan of Martins, and think he and Owen, with the right big man next to them, will take us to Europe!
There you make a point I will certainly agree with, Shearer’s shirt should perhaps have been retired, but it wasn’t, and therefore I think Martins deserves it more than anyone else, because a No. 9 should be exciting, a man you look to when everything else looks lost! And Martins does that, he picks the ball up, and everyone wonders whats next! Football is a sport, it is supposed to be exciting to watch, and therefore Martins, and people like him such as Mcgeady, Diego, Modric, Nzogbia, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, et al are the heroes, the players that people pay to watch!
Opinions are like arse holes, everyone’s got them! I have watched almost every game since he signed, and I’ll tell you something, with him in the team we are much more of a threat than without him!
61 Knightbobmoncur // Apr 29, 2008 at 14:21
Now I have got that little lad spyro out my hair I can start talking footy!!
I heard on the grpevine at the weekend from a friend in Germany that Metzelder is a serious target and has held preliminary talks with the toon already!! This is just speculation of course, but my German friend says it has been in the press over there very recently!
My mate says he would be a good signing if he stays injury free, as he is rated as one of the best defenders in the world.
62 chuck // Apr 29, 2008 at 14:23
Spurs sign Modric put in a bid for Villa, now thats ambition!
Toon want a benchwarming defender, Baines, plus an injury prone poor mans Shearer, reach your own conclusions ?
Take a shot for Gomis, young pacey scorer,Cuellar good young defender, chuck in Rozenhal or Smith, but for gods sake show some ambition.
63 geoffo // Apr 29, 2008 at 14:25
now now boys, lets get real, Martins in a 4 3 3 has been working a treat, but that’s not to say we shouldn’t be looking to go 4 4 2 in some matches and dropping martins to the bench, it’s good we have two systems, look at the likes of Man utd and they mix it up a treat, predictabilty (BIG SAM!) is suicide in the premiership if you want to challenge at the top.
64 HonoraryGeordie // Apr 29, 2008 at 14:26
@ KnightBobMoncur - I seriously hope you’re right with Metzelder, he is a very classy defender - he would be what Woodgate was to us when he was here!
65 Hamas (51times) // Apr 29, 2008 at 14:27
Newcastle has always had a number 9, you can’t retire the shirt, no way. Even Shearer said so.
66 HonoraryGeordie // Apr 29, 2008 at 14:30
@ Geoffo - Yeah so true, but again my opinion is that Martins should be the man that plays off the big man, as a 4-4-2 requires a pacey break away, and Owen isn’t really that fast anymore and personally I think he suits the “in-the-hole” role much better! But a big squad, with multiple systems, and a bit of rotation and competition is essential in the modern day Premier League and no player will play all 38 league and however many cup matches!

Honorary Geordie, couldn’t agree more, def Martins playing off a big fella, rotation etcetera all true, Owen in the hole spot on. Have recently checked out Boussaffa, now he looks absolutely the sort of player we should be going for, bags of pace, skill, great first touch, low centre of gravity, in other words a Keegan type player who would excite the fans. I’d gan for him now before the transfer madness kicks off proper.

74 CRAIGG // Apr 29, 2008 at 14:53
One question have some of you seen any more than a 10 second clip of Gomis to say we should buy him.
Ive watched plenty of French football over the past 2 seasons and he doesnt look as amazing as some of you think, i would take Ashton over him any day of the week.
Baines isnt great defensively but when was John Beresford. he is a keegan LB bombs down the wing puts good crosses in and takes a scorching free kick.
Richard Dunne would be quality he is a monster CB and loves KK from their Man City days as does SWP those would be 2 of the top signings that KK talks about as he knows how to get the best out of both.
But my major concern is still CM we are really short there, Veloso should be no1 but if Man Utd poach him as is likely we must have a punt at Carrick or Hagreaves.
Add a left winger i say McGeady but KK seems to want Reyes and im happy as a Pot bellied pig in its own excrement
75 valle // Apr 29, 2008 at 14:54
Just took a good look at the league tho… It seems like you cant afford to lose more than 5-6 games in an entrire season if you want champs league… It gets harder and harder to break in there and none of the current chasing back are even close.
76 Obafan // Apr 29, 2008 at 14:57
Baines: no he is an average player, and we do not need another young LB. Buy a more experienced LB who can help Enrique as he is IMO our LB for the future. Jose really has the potential to be a very good LB in the EPL. But on the other hand KK is not that convinced, cause he stated he defo needs another LB.
Ashton: injury prone and he has not really convinced me the last couple of weeks. Does not work that much during the game.
Gomis: would be a better option than Ashton; I think we might get this guy. But like recent other possible targets it is better to celebrate when the news is confirmed and when the player is presented in a black and white shirt. Has anyone got a link to the article and is the source reliable?
Arshavin: would be a top quality buy and would prove the amibtion of KK!
Van der Vaart: would be fantastic, but it will be very hard to get him.
Dunne: in the beginning I would say yes, but now without Richards he looks not that reliable at the back. I think we should go for more solid playes.
Cuellar: well I think (I’ve seen him not that much) he can be a very good buy, especially if he helps us to get rid of Smith
.
valle - how can you be so hard on Martins; okay he did not play always that good this season (like others), but the last couple of weeks he has proven that he is a very difficult striker to play against.

Ashton is very ordinary, I would be quite underwelmed if we signed him. Carrick has just signed a new contract and Hargreaves would never come. One thing we’ll give Veloso is first team football. He’ll never get a game a Man Utd, Carrick and Hargreaves fill his position with Anderson and Scholes (who may be replaced by Moutinho) the attacking midfielders.

Im not saying we will get Carrick as he has signed a new contract or Hargreaves but Man Utd are definately looking at Veloso so maybe if they sign him then it may unsettle one of the others and we may have a slight chance, doubtful but why not you have to aim high to get to the top.
82 geoffo // Apr 29, 2008 at 15:12
Carrick was alledgedly chomping at the bit to come ‘home’ when Sir Bobby was in charge, only the deluded Shepherd semed to think we’d get him for nowt cos he’s a Geordie! These boys are proffesionals, money talks. For once can we please, please build from the back and invest proper money, on QUALITY defenders. Few of the names mentioned excite, basicaly aim high or you’ll piddle on yer shoes.
83 valle // Apr 29, 2008 at 15:15
Obafan… I can see how you would say that i am hard on him, but the points i mentioned is the things players can do that annoys me the most. When that is said, i like Oba and i can also get very excited when he creates a chance for us… I like him in our team, and i guessed my point was that i suspect KK will go for wings next season, meaning its either him or Owen for the small striker place, in which case i would go for Owen… Also i guess i like the solid players, that always pass the ball when needed and almost always have success with that pass. I like intelligent football and i guess thats why im more of an Owen man ahead of the crowd pleasers.
84 chuck // Apr 29, 2008 at 15:17
Spurs are buying players like Modric and bidding on David Villa, shows real ambition in comparison with Bains and Ashton.
Hell go for Gomis and Cuellar, chuck in Smith or Rosenthall
85 Hadji // Apr 29, 2008 at 15:20
I think we should make a bid for Malouda,i’m sure that 9 mill would do the trick.
86 valle // Apr 29, 2008 at 15:22
CRAIGG… I must admit that im over the moon that we have finnally got a manager that suits the club (we’ve been missing that since Bobby). And whoever KK signs, i have confidence in that player, even if that means 2 division players (altho i prefer big name transfers for excitement)
87 valle // Apr 29, 2008 at 15:25
I would rather face a team with Villa in their attack with one with either Berba or Keane, so perhaps they are selling him to try and patch their team after we steal Berba.
88 CRAIGG // Apr 29, 2008 at 15:26
Spurs are not going to get Villa im 100% certain that Liverpool or Chelsea would get him if he came to England
Could the most die hard Spurs fan see them being effective without Berbatov, im a big fan of Robbie Keane but partnered with Bent?
The same with Woodgate partnered by Dawson or Kaboul. Even Modric alongside Jenas, Tainio or Zokora
They may have ambition but they are going no where.
And whats wrong with trying to sign Ashton and Baines, How many thought that relegated Coventry left winger Bellamy and the Unknown tempremental French reject Robert would ignite things last time.
They dont have to be massive names to be effective, we have been caught out by the big names too many times in the past Kluivert, Luque, Owen (At first)
89 Hadji // Apr 29, 2008 at 15:35
Excuse meee Craigg but for your information my friend ,Laurent Robert was never a reject.
You cant compare him with the real rejects such as Smith,Duff,.And second thing Craigg, its not a very nice thing to say things like that, you make our club sound like a junkyard.
90 CRAIGG // Apr 29, 2008 at 15:39
He was dumped by the french national side after playing just 9 games
91 CRAIGG // Apr 29, 2008 at 15:42
Im not trying to make the club sound like a junk yard im making the point that we dont need to splash loads of money on trophy signings when there are bargains out there like McCarthy when he went to Blackburn for £2.5m.
92 Hadji // Apr 29, 2008 at 15:47
I dont know how Blackburn always gets those targets for such a small fee.I’m sure if we went for Santa Cruz we would have payed at least 9 mill.
93 CRAIGG // Apr 29, 2008 at 15:53
Blackburn get them as they are more careful with their money unlike us who throw money at big name players to show off.
94 Hadji // Apr 29, 2008 at 15:53
Well well we definetely have the ”Eye of the tiger”.http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=677189
I think him and Barton would make a perfect partnership.
95 toonhitman // Apr 29, 2008 at 15:55
the word is villa is going to real madrid,as for gomis i hope hes nowt like drogba drogba is a girls blouse he gets the slightest touch and hes rolling around the ground as if hes just been shot, the toon shouls go for prem players like joe cole, jimmy bullard
96 valle // Apr 29, 2008 at 15:56
Blackburn have just scouted the market really good before they spent… Its not only McCarthy, but also Samba, Warnock and Bentley,
97 Tom_Toon // Apr 29, 2008 at 16:05
Craigg, i agree.
I watched Gomis a few games and he scored but he also missed sooooo mny chances in he same game.
Id say 8 mil tops for him. 14-18mil is just ridiculous.
98 scottish mag // Apr 29, 2008 at 16:15
gomis would be good he is just as good as drogba and adebayor at the same age 14 goals in 31 games isnt a bad record, watched at least 18 times this season scored in most and they are all varied, also watching marseille a bit this season and M’BAMI there DM looks impressive great vision and holds back allows the strikers to get on with scoring goals and doesnt get caught out
99 Hamas (51times) // Apr 29, 2008 at 17:02
If we don’t pay over the odds we’ll never get any decent players, accept it.
100 Geordie Gerrard7 // Apr 29, 2008 at 17:22
we need to pay over the odds. whats everyone complaining about? it aint coming out of our pockets.
101 Newcastle United. // Apr 29, 2008 at 17:31
Do you lot reckon we could get Arshavin, Moutinho, Van der Vaart or Diego etc?
I personally reckon so but what you’s reckon? If Keegan IS aloud to spend £25M on one player then I can see any of these guys coming, Dunne, Metzelder and Ashton i believe would be good signings.
Like someone has already said though. We need to build the team around out best players. Preferably Owen and Martins. They must play somehow. 4-3-3, 4-4-2. Whatever, Aslong as those guys are in the team. I reckon Ashton would compliment the both of them very well, He isn’t THAT injury prone. He still played more than The Duke and im sure Keegan will keep him fit. He’s stong, Good in the air, good feet, Good finisher, Hold up player and scores goals himself. Dunne and Metzelder would be one of best in league I reckon. Two of those midfielders maybe as I still think we lack that bit of creativity, Even though we seem to be scoring alot more recently. I’d have Van der Vaart over all of them. Him behind the front three with that defence and butt as a holding midfielder giving someone like Emre the role in midfield to spray it about, would be world class, As we have Beye on the wing too give that extra support. Honestly think we’d be one of the top 5 teams with that team.
Given/Harper
Beye Metzelder Dunne Riise?
Butt
Emre Van der vaart
Owen(c)
Ashton Martins
That is quality for me.
102 richie // Apr 29, 2008 at 18:07
both baines and ashton would add to our team so i say sign them at right price
but once again WOULD THEY SIGN FOR US?
103 KEnneth BAssan // Apr 29, 2008 at 18:28
Bring ashton. He is class striker and could do very well with martins and owen. Young and better than Viduka.
104 Toonsolja (in london :( ) // Apr 29, 2008 at 18:34
newcastle united totally agree but i wouldnt put riise in front of enrique and also emre butt and van der vaart wouldnt work emre and vdv would be all out attacking leaving butt on his own , and against teas like man u and arsenal we would get skined alive.but the rest yes. dont know about metzelder havnt seen much of him. but i would love to see us sighn muvamba :great young prospect and if butt can teach him a few thngs then he could become world class. dunne would be a great comanding cd havnt watched cuelar though.vdv if we sighn him il be over the moon, one of my favourite players would be great. adn as some one said before about adriano y not? get him onloan see what hapnes and at the end we dont lose out. i would absolutly love to see this team next seoson
harper (has been great desrves a starting place)
beye (ireplacable) dunne richards (you can always dream) enrique
muvamba (lots of energy and can protect the defence well to) van der vaart (do i really need to say anything) faye (holding midfield, he reads the game well )
owen (c) adriano (desrves a chance, and i reckon keegan could get the best out of him) martins (has to be first on the team sheet )
subs: given,butt,barton,viduka,taylor,milner, duff, edgar.
p.s sorry for my bad grammer and spelling and no paragraphing i was in a rush sorry again.
105 Piers Ross // Apr 29, 2008 at 18:58
Ashton has talent, but gomis is better. Just make a solid bid and then go after midfielders and defenders in the summer

CRAIGG // Apr 29, 2008 at 15:53
Blackburn get them as they are more careful with their money unlike us who throw money at big name players to show off.
TOTALLY AGREED, but well should we blame ourselves first because we are the one who makes our club like that…oh no blame fat freddy sherphard, then the oversensitive and overhyped fans….
.btw there’s should be some constructive arguments here, dont need to be sensitive imho everyone have their own opinion, valle had his points somehow partly i agreed with him but martins can improved, hopefully he can by next season
YES to Ashton, no to Baines
107 leavy // Apr 29, 2008 at 20:07
too all the people would be dissapointed with ashton lmao didnt u see the west ham game
i was there (in the west ham stand) and il tell u he ran the game, his link up play hold up play was exceptional he won almost every header and was superb also shearer says he is fantastic and in his mould shearer knows strikers.
lastly heres who we may may not get
carrick - no chance
berbatov - no way unless we break the bank and no big clubs go in
veloso - man u go in noo
bridge- possibly
dunne- depends on mangerial situation
gomis -could lure him…money talks
diego- again if big if we bid on the sly
van der vart - same as diego
ashravin - quite a good chance unless totenham f**k it up
thats about it we should go for premier players not over inflated foreigners, and u dont win anything from these exciting signings
weve had plenty and won f**k all
id rather get good hungry players e.g bullard
or at least make bids for players like swp lennon
u dont bid - u dont get
108 Tom // Apr 29, 2008 at 21:33
i think we might have signed this boussafa lad. he said recently the deadline was a couple of weeks ago and we havent heard anything since so…who knows. arshavin n gomis would be class
109 Obafan // Apr 29, 2008 at 21:58
Tom - I’m from Belgium and all I can say is that Boussoufa was on Belgian televsion last Sunday in a talkshow about the matches from that weekend. He clearly expressed that he is going to sign a new deal at Anderlecht till 2011 because he still can learn much more in Brussels before moving on to a better and stronger league.
I can assure you that NUFC did not miss anything, he is not able to play good when he has lots of pressure on him or on his team. I also think he made the correct decision for himself to stay a few more years in Belgium, cause at this stage he will not add anything more than what we already have got at NUFC.
110 Leo // Apr 29, 2008 at 22:00
someone has been saying adriano would be good, well im not sure about it, but i will say one thing, he was up near where i live about two yearsa go for a look around a house, if anyone knows the area its called burgham, its north of morpeth on the a1 north bound. he was in a bit convo leaving the village after about half an hour of looking around, all the cars were big black blingy things, i was soo excited but i guess it didnt work out in the end maybe we will look again`

Posts 101 and 104, both of you have good ideas in my opinion, lets just hope we can pull in some of those great players!
