Good Time To Get Dunne Deal Done

Newcastle have already lodged a bid of £5M for Manchester City center-back Richard Dunne, and now may be the time to push this deal through.

Richard Dunne – good time to get deal done

It seems certain now that Manchester City’s Thailand owner Thaksin Shinawatra will sack Sven Eriksson in the summer, as the Swede’s right hand man, Tord Grip, informed the press yesterday.

It appears that Thaksin has an ego as big as his fortune, and Sven is probably better off somewhere else – now that he’s got back his reputation back with some good work at Eastlands. Wonder if Chelsea will go for him?

There will obviously be uncertainty not only at the Manchester City club itself, but also with the players and it therefore seems that now would be a great time for Newcastle to try to do the deal for Richard.

Whatever you think of the player, we think he’ll improve the team, and it’s low risk for Newcastle United, because not only does Kevin know Richard well from his City days, but he’s also a proven performer in the league. Yes, he makes one or two mistakes, but his consistency is very good.

And while £5M may be a high price for a player whose contract runs out a year come June, it would nevertheless be a good deal for the Tyneside club, and as we’ve said – low risk.

Let’s get him to Newcastle.

Comments welcome.

5mill for an experience centre back is a good deal, taylor can learn a thing from him too. if it’s true, i hope we get the deal done as soon as possible.

Both Dunne and Elano would be good signings as they bring qualities we either lack, or dont have.

    Again, its all speculation though!!!!!!

A huge no to Reyes! Especially for a midfield 3. All three players need to be able to put tackles in, and Reyes simply wouldn’t do that, being more concerned by the rain and how it’s affecting his hair.

If we are to get a forward, one who is fairly tall, strong and quick, who can operate in Owen’s role as well would be the most ideal option. Goran Pandev is one player who could fit into that category.

I think it safe to say that Sven’s P45 is in the post all bar licking the stamp. Thaksin will drive away some players as a result. Another owner playing games with his toys. That means we can get Dunne. Also I think Elano would be a good addition. He has trickery, pace and sure passing. If and when Sven goes a lot of clubs will be in for the pickings at Man City. But Elano and Dunne could come our way. Still want to blood our own reserves too – we have some gems there who have not let us down and who will not do so in the future.

how do we know we have already lodged a bid for dunne? There is no confirmed reports that we have launhed a bid. As of today the reports linking us with dunne are newspaper speculation. There is no point people including Dunne in their “ideal” team for next season as he is not a newcastle player. Nor is Reyes, or Mcgeady or Gomis! I have seen this so many times on this site. Reports confirming we have signed Kalouda and modric and now we have (according to this site) bid 5 mill for Dunne. People then go including them in a fantasy team for next season. I hope the one’s who do this dont go rushing out to have the name’s of the players printed on the back of their shirts based on transfer activity stipulated by this site. You will get Messi and Deco printed next week no doubt.

Broon Ale – the team I mentioned is certainly not my ideal team or players I would want us to buy. But in KK’s press conferences these are the players he has mentioned more than once as being players that would interest him if available.

Paper talk or not, i would not like to see Dunne in a black & white shirt. He may look good at times but has all forgot about his regular howlers.
If they persue Dunne for £5m, then why not save money and bring back Bramble.
Leave Dunne were he is as i am sure we can attract better than him.

a few people have been tellling me that we are going to bid for pandev, he is qaulity. also gomis and dunneymonster would be good, i like dunne alot as he is solid and also the leader we need at the back, alot of people will benefit from him

I agree with what someone else said on here. We should make a bid for micah richards! I wouldnt mind playing loads for him. He is a quality young player and with Sven leaving, he might go. Also he may want to follow dunne, + didnt kev have him whenhe was at man city?

We have to go after him!
+a cheeky bid for flamini would be awsome.

10 mill for Mcgeady sounds alot, but to be fair he did win their player of the year and if i were celtic, who want to play champs league, id be looking for that much for him.

Should we succeed in getting Dunne, the only thing we’d lack in the centre of defence would be some real pace.

One of the best bets, and sticking to the Man City theme, would be Onuoha. There are few quicker then him and he has of course played alongside Dunne and Taylor many times. He is also very versatile and could go with Edgar in providing cover for the whole backline.

The only downside is that he is injured and could struggle to be fit for the start of the season unless his recovery goes well.

He may not want to lose his best players but if they want to leave and a respectable offer comes in then there isn’t much of a choice in the matter.

Besides Shinawatra seems to be Freddy Shepherd’s Thaiwanese lovechild.

Sorry, geography was never my strongest subject. I’m no good at remembering counties either, like Americans do trying to remember their 50 states and where they are. And don’t get me started on European countries, anywhere east of Germany and I’m thoroughly stumped.

I wouldn’t have thought Man City would let Dunne AND Elano go now, leaving a big gap for them whether they have a manager or not. It does sound ideal though, a 15M bid – say – for the 2 of them.

A lot were jealous of Man City having Sven a few months ago, even though personally I didn’t think he would do well at Man City, Now KK seems the perfect choice for us again ; 0 )
Man City fans should be very angry though; their best season for ages and the double over Man Utd. I’m just grateful (touch wood) that we have a British owner!

Please guys, tell me if i’m wrong, but wasn’t it quoted in some newspaper only this week i believe that Dunne could buy himself out of the last year of his contract for 1.5 million? Surely, if he does that he’s a free agent of sorts and a bid of 5 mil isn’t needed?

Weve got loads of centre backs, would rather give the likes of Roza and Cacapa a chance to come good or keep them to cover Faye anfd Taylor instead of wasting the 5 million. Dont think Dunnes better than what weve got.

Dunne would be good for Taylor and is far better than Faye! I think a cheeky 15m bid for Micah Richards could be our “One Big” signing. Doubt he will come but you never know!

Elano and McGeady would be a great pair of signings, and nearly solve our midfield woes while also providing us some cover for Beye.

I think Dunne is good but Richards is better. I would not mind either and I think it would result in Faye being used more as a defensive midfielder where his lack of pace wont leave him so exposed if he makes a mistake.
