Newcastle Transfer News Today

We will be linked with many players this summer so it’s going to be a little hard to single out which ones we are really after, but we’ll do our best.

richard-dunne.jpg

Richard Dunne – definite target for Newcastle

The Manchester City captain Richard Dunne is again the name dominating the transfer news regarding Newcastle United. And with Sven Eriksson leaving Man City in the summer, it may be a chance for Newcastle to get Richard to the club.

It’s the Northern Echo that says Keegan is ready right now to go after Dunne, and we believe Newcastle have already officially put in a bid of £5M, which is a good price for City, given Richard’s contract is up next season.

aiden-mcgeady-6.jpg

Aiden McGeady, the Celtic winger, who was the Scottish Premier League’s player of the year, is also mentioned as a a target and apparently Sunderland are also said to be interested in the player.

McGeady is rated at £10M, which seems a little on the high side to us.

The Daily Mail also mentions PSG’s 18 year-old Mamadou Sakho, who is a left sided defender, as another target. We covered our interest in Mamadou recently.

That’s about it for today so nothing really new on the horizon.

Id be happy with all 3 of these players at Newcastle, I think 10million for Mcgeady is about right, hes a better player than Zog for sure with a much better attitude to the game! Add Bridge, Gomis and a Creative Midfielder and we would be all set!

Just 2 of the hundreds we will no doubt be linked to over the next four months, right up to the transfer closing day.

So will be genuine targets, most will be pure fiction, one or two will be completely out of left field; maybe even one or two will take our breath away. Oh, the joys of supporting this bloody club eh!!!!!!

10million for McGeady is about right. Spurs are also after him by the way, lol.

Dunne i could do without, but Sakho is a definite buy if we can get him for around 13million

magpie have suffered for long for lack of a defensive midfielder and since butt is on and off hence unpredictable we should look for a constant performer.

we should look to either snatch Flamini from under the noses of the italians, or bid anything up to 20million for Veloso. Both can act as the engine to our team as they are both class and have excellent workrate. Flamini is better but i think we have more chance of Veloso

F-ing spurs are after McGeady too. Dunne, McGeady and Sakho would all be good signings that would improve the team.

Some creativity is long overdue in this team. Emre is a shadow of his former self; Zog is up his own backside. Who else do we have, really??

Lets get back to the days of Jimmy Smith, Asprilla, Beardsley, etc. Players who could open up a team, take on their man and stuff him, create openings and chances for our forwards to put in the net.

Get some FOOTBALLERS on the pitch and ignite the fans.

@Spyro: How you getting on in FM? I bet you’ve got some team assembled?! Pity that the actual team will ever look like your fantasy team!

Get a f**king grip people. Van DEr Vaart, Huntelaar, Veloso, Micah Richards etc etc etc. If they’re top players they’re not coming to us. If Modric signed for Spurs then why would any of the other players sign for us?

Dunne would be a good signing and he’s probably the best CB we can get. And to be honest, he’s a good player, very solid! I like McGeady, and there’s a good chance we’ll sign him if he decides to leave Celtic. But what are the chances of him leaving when Celtic will be in CL again? There’s no chance Arteta would leave Everton to come to us!

And £13m for Sakho? Are you joking?!!!!!!!!!

KK’s list is beginning to resemble the Ipcress File. It does seem that Dunne will be the done thing now that Sven has got his P45. I like Micah Richards too but not sure where he would fit. I suppose we will have fairy story after fairy story until deadline day. OK, but we will have to recruit, and recruit quality. No more hand-me-downs or cast offs please. We also need to know who is going as well. That will say a lot about what positions KK is concerned about. Shola will go, and perhaps Smith, even Carr to Everton so he can play in Europe without having done naff-all for us. Smith at Rangers will play in Europe too having never scored for us. Still would like Wright-Phillips with us but what about Kazenga being given a chance too?

If we could get Michael Owen sign for us, then why shouldnt we be abel to sign Huntelaar and Van der Vaart? Owen signed even though we had a crapy manager as Souness and now when we have Keegan and it looks like we are going places… why not?

I think it’s unlikely that we’ll be seeing any senior, expensive foreign players with no prem experience. For one thing, they won’t want to come here without European competition, and for another I don’t think KK wants them.

I’d be far happier to see us go for young foreign talent (like Sakho) for the future, and established, UK-based immediate 1st teamers like McGeady. Dunne could be the consistent boss at the back, which is needed.

Dunne would be nuts to stay at Man Shitty with that Asian guy at the helm, Man Shitty are not going to win anything anytime soon and Sven’s gonna be a gonna in a couple of weeks.
    Dunne’s solid if nothing else.

dont look to much into the whole newcastle/ashley spurs connections, it will only make you bitter towards him, they offered way to much for modric, ive got over it, you should all do now, look to the future. sakho dunne and mcgeady would all be good signings. veloso would be the player i would go out for whole heartedly along with pandev/elmander/gomis

Graeme has summed it up well and Dick has made a very interesting point worth considering.
It seems the media is trying to make Newcastle appear as some shanty town on the wrong side of the railway tracks. We want and need quality creative players, especially on the wings and in mid-field. But above all they must have passion for NUFC and the Toon Army – if they have not got that it does not matter who they play for as long as it is not us. Still have that gut feeling that we will be shafted many time before we finally see next season’s squad. KK will sort it though and that we do know. What we can offer is what we can fight and play for, to go out and win. Too many of todays players want it on a plate. They want to sign for clubs that have made it to Europe etc without having actually helped those clubs get there. I think opportunists and selfish careerists are the words, not quite sure.

Jimmie – Owen signed for us because we were the only club willing to meet Real’s demands, and because we were still looking at European football. Right now, to the world outside England (i.e. to any player in a foreign league), we’re just a lower-half team who’ve had a poor season. Money alone won’t cut it.

We’ll get the big names – but not for another year. But that’s not a big problem – look what we’ve already got, and what we can do with realistic targets like McGeady. It really does take years to get back up to the top end, and we should just enjoy the journey rather than moan about our failure to sign galacticos.

Kash2 i only speak of players i have seen play, and if i feel a player would come to us there is normally a valid reason as to why i think so.

Also, why not 13mill for Sakho? I bet you didn’t even know who he was until yesterday, yet you give an opinion….strange

Eric – good point about Lua Lua. I’m as excited about the possibility of emulating Wenger’s ability to unveil exceptional new talent next year. We’ve been quite low-key about our junior signings, but I think they will enable us to compete strongly for two cups next season.

And did anyone see Kazenga’s goal in the cup final? Fantastic talent.

McGeady and Dunne would be great! But then we need to focus at the midfield, with an creative player to come in or will we then play 4-4-2 with McGeady, Geremi,Barton,Millner? ,,
Another striker who can come in and replace anyone of Michael, Oba or Mark is important to. Maybe Carroll can take another step towards a good EPL-striker, but this Gomis-guy seems interesting. Have a look at the young swedish striker Markus Berg now playing att Groningen in Dutch Eredevise. He can be something big.

Players in Dutch, German and French leagues would jump at the chance to play in england, plus the wages on offer is so much greater than what they can get in their leagues.
What about Kennedy Bakircioglü from Ajax as an attacking middfield option?
Remember Jimmy Briand we were linked to in january is now a portsmouth target.

Agree with some other comments, as well as a much needed creative genious in the middle of the park we also need DM cover for Butt faye hasnt got the passing ability either,we need someone who can pass a lot better and run with the ball
