Not too much news today on the transfer although there’s another report that Kevin Keegan is indeed interested in Barcelona’s Deco.
Eren Derdiyok - he’s the number 9 in the air
We think Deco may want to move to the Premier league and we also believe he would be a good buy for the club. But whether we could attract a player of Deco’s ability to Tyneside remains to be seen - but he could do a job at Newcastle for at least the next 3 seasons.
Another interesting story today is that 19 year-old 6’3†Swiss striker Eren Derdiyok of Swiss club FC Basle wants to join Newcastle. He seems to be able to score goals too, having scored 10 goals this season for his club in 23 outings.
Eren Derdiyok has spoken of his desire to play in the Premier League alongside Michael Owen at Newcastle, and he’s already a full Swiss International, having scored against England in February.
So that’s some good publicity for the club and we think Kevin should at least check out the youngster.
Also some news late yesterday that Newcastle may be interested in speedy winger Joaquin of Valencia, but we’re not too sure if that’s an old story, just being regurgitated.
However, we think he’s the type of player who would interest Kevin Keegan so there may be some truth in it.

Tonight see’s Fiorentina v Rangers where Newcastle have been tracking and considering a bif for Rangers centre half Carlos Cuellar. By all accounts, unlike Boumsong, he plays well in all competitions rather than just the SPL.
So will be interesting to see how he does in a big test for Rangers tonight against a quality Fiorentina side.

Deco; a part of me says YES; I think a new league would do him good; I think he would prove that he is not past it. On the other hand a part of me says NO, because his form is getting worser by the year and also his attitude is not always that good (remeber Euro 2004 when he was substituted).
Cuellar and Arshavin should be the 2 players who Wise and his staff should be looking at tonight. Let’s hope and burn some candles.

The problem KK is facing that without European football we have to go for those little gems that might turn out to be superstars (Ginola, Tino, Cesc). But for every one of those you could end up with a bunch of foreign wasters who struggle with the speed of the PL.
But sometimes if you sign someone big then other top class players want to come and play alongside them. A possible option for KK
A lot of footballers and clubs will be watching our game against Chelsea on Monday. So as a team we need to look like one that would be good to play in, and as fans give them an atmosphere they want to play in front of. Monday is a massive calling card for Newcastle to attract players.

if he does it just alerts other clubs to players’ availability hence pushing up the asking price and contractual demands. These days there are plenty clubs with Billionaire owners and money to spend so we need to be as stealthy as possible to snap up the top players. The Modric deal was leaked by the Croatians who no doubt wanted the best price possible for their starlet, expect other cash strapped clubs to adopt a similar approach when the Toon comes a knocking.

I’ve got to say I love the way are prospective strikeforce could look in a few years time where a 6 foot bloke could be considered short alongside Carroll, Zamblera and the likes of Gomis or Derdiyok. All big and powerful, and if we get a good mix of pace and skill then defenders will be quaking in their boots, particularly once we’re back in Europe as those defenders can be on the short side.

4-0 Zenit strolling. I’m finding this game very interesting for two reasons:
1 - Zenit have some excellent, powerful, technically-gifted and hungry players who we could no doubt attract over here. In particular i think Pogrebnyak the striker looks like a great player and he’s now the top scorer in the uefa cup this season. Tymoschuk also looks like a quality uncomplicated defensive player. Anyukov has looked good down the right too. They have some very, very good players who would be desperate to be given a chance in England and they look like they would die for their club.
2 - Bayern look like a side in decline. Could we possibly nick a few big names from them - Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Podolski…
