Keegan – We’ll Not Get All Shells On The Beach

Kevin Keegan has once again said he hopes to bring in four or five top quality players during the summer.

Kevin Keegan – who’s after Modric on the list?

Newcastle have been linked with many names this week and will no doubt be linked with almost every good football player available this summer.

Just before Kevin’s pre-match conference ahead of the Chelsea game on Monday Kevin was asked if he was any closer to bringing any new players to the club.

Kevin in jovial mood joked:

“Yeah, here they are,” “This one, he’s a player, he’s terrific, watch out for him.”“But this one (pointing to his other side), I’m not too sure about, I’m taking a chance with him!”

Then Kevin was asked if he was disappointed to miss out to Tottenham on midfield Croation target Luka Modric, Keegan said:

“We are not going to get all the shells on the beach.”

“Modric is a player that most of the top teams in Europe would have liked and good luck to Spurs if they’ve got him.”

“Now we have to go and look at our list and see who else is on there that we would like.”

“I’d like to bring in four or five, but the first you’ll know about them is when we have got them here and signed for the club.”

Certainly Kevin seems to be not too disappointed at missing out on Modric, but if he was he surely wouldn’t let it be known to the press either.

And that’s the way we’d like the club to conduct their business in the summer, quietly, but Newcastle fans are just waiting to be surprised by Newcastle announcing one or two excellent signings for the club.

We are all very willing to be happily surprised by some of the players Kevin and the recruitment team, along with Chairman Chris Mort, can bring to the club this summer.

But only top players need apply – as we already have an excellent squad of players and Kevin has already brought the very best out of them.

Comments welcome.

Every signing he makes has to be a lot better than the equivilent player already at the club. Its the only way we are going to make improvements in the long-term.

Just looking forward to the start of the arrivals!!!

    No wish lists, its impossible to get them all in one team anyway, but if Eto’o fancies a change of scenery. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I wouldn’t mind Diouf from Bolton. He’s definitely leaving and is much better than Milner!

kash, i do not want to ever see diouf in a newcastle shirt.

milner may not be as skilful, but he’s a far better team player and much less of a c*nt.

Eto’o !! Come on mate lets be realistic!! He will demand Champions League football and we’re not even in the Uefa Cup! There are loads of good players around, like Luka Modric and better. Lots that haven’t been noticed by other clubs and many great players in foreign leagues that would jump at the chance to play in a proper league like the Premiership. We have to stay positive but lets not get carried away either. We have to be realistic and our management is being very professional about it all and that pleases me :) I can’t wait for our summer spending to start. These surely are very exciting times for us and Keegan will buy good. I do like that Gomis fella we are being linked with, he’s class and promises much and does seem like “The New Drogba” of the future.

don’t worry folks, the transfer team HAVE to be chipping away right now at the very elite on this ‘list’, early before others can – let’s just hope they are the likes of VDV and Diego – we will wake up to great news soon I am sure (well, hopeful at least ;))

Quite agree, we want to be signing young, ambitious players who want to win things with newcastle United, no more Patrick Kleivert’s. There are also a few of the current players ned to be sorted out i.e. Emre, Carr who are never fit.
Ashley needs to sort out what his ambitions are for next season and how much he is going to give Keegan to spend.

Also the new recruitement team need to prove they can work together: http://www.trophy4toon.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=148.0

IT WOULD BE A MENTAL DECISION TO BUY DIUF ESPECIALLY WITH HOT HEADS LIKE BARTON AND BUTT. I WOULD TAKE SOME OF BOLTON’S PLAYER’S : NOLAN AND STELIOS AS THEY ARE BOTH LEADERS, TEAM PLAYERS AND BOTH HAVE QUALITY. HOWEVER OUR MAIN TASK IN THE SUMMER IS TO STRENGHTHEN THE DEFENCE CUELLAR KING BRIDGE AND RISE HAVE ALL BEEN LINKED TO US AND I THINK WE SHOULD GET A MAXIMUM OF 2 OF THOSE MY BACK LINE WOULD BE

    BEYE CUELLAR KING TAYLOR

ALSO I THINK VIDUKA’S TIME IS UP KEEP HIM ON THE BENCH AND BRING IN DEAN ASHTON OR ANDY JOHNSEN

We need some solid prem experience with Dunne, Crouch, Sidwell and Riise – roughly £20m but with a couple of decent youngsters that should give us the strength to challenge for the top 6. Maybe chuck a more risky foreign player into the mix as well.

“the first you’ll know about them is when we have got them here and signed for the club”

Maybe we should take this in and stop getting ants in our pants over every piece of tabloid makebelieve.
