Newcastle Linked With Two More Players

Newcastle United have reportedly reported their interest in a couple of new players.

Jimmy Briand – Newcastle again linked with player

There is news today that Newcastle are interested in 22 year-old Rennes forward Jimmy Briand.

Portsmouth have been favorites for the forward since the January transfer market but French sources today have said that both Newcastle and Arsenal are also tracking the youngster.

Jimmy has played for Rennes 81 times and scored 13 goals for the club and is a French Under-21 International, who stands 5’11” tall.

Simon Vukcevic - attacking midfielder plays for Sporting Lisbon

The agent of Sporting Lisbon attacking midfielder Simon Vukcevic has revealed the interest of three Premiership clubs.

Zoran Stojadinovic claimed Everton, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Valencia and Atletico Madrid all want his client during an interview with Blic.

Stojadinovic said today:

“He is very happy because big clubs are interested in giving him a contract,”

“But he’s concentrating only on Sporting and wants to help them ensure qualification for the Champions League.”

Of course the more clubs interested in the player the better it is for his agent, so he’ll mention as many clubs as he can.

Simon is just 22 years old and has played for Lisbon 19 times since moving from FC Saturn last summer, and has scored 7 goals.

He has already played for Montenegro 3 times so far.

Comments welcome.

    another 2 we’r linked with *sigh*…

speculation is boring, lets have some action. plenty of time i spose though but we need to get in before other clubs do. never seen any of these 2 play tbh so no point in me commenting.

  • 2 tooneire // May 2, 2008 at 5:38 PM

never even heard of any of these ..any info on them?

  • 3 Tom_Toon // May 2, 2008 at 5:40 PM

    Briand – No thanks.

Vukcevic – Hes good but im not greatly fussed either way. Although its refreshing to be linked with a player like this rather than your shithouses like Ben Haim, Nolan etc.

  • 4 rob1892 // May 2, 2008 at 6:25 PM

i thought Vukcevic was very poor in the 2 games against rangers in this seasons uefa cup

  • 5 Bryan // May 2, 2008 at 6:34 PM

I really hope KK is going to be in on the next meeting with a player we are after. All due respect to Dennis Wise but how can he sell NUFC to any player. He has`nt been here 5 min. KK is the only person who can sell this club and all its passion to someone.
I think the Moric deal is a prime example. Do you really think he would have signed for Spurs if KK had spoken to him? I dont think so.

  • 6 Leo // May 2, 2008 at 6:42 PM

aghh more speculation lol. its getting tiresome now i wish we would confirm or reject the storys, although that would mean that the price would jump i guess im just excited but also aprehencive about who we bring in.

  • 7 valle // May 2, 2008 at 6:49 PM

Not exactly signings thaat would set the squad or the fans on fire… Need to aim higher… MA needs to open that purse and wheel the first one in, when the statement is made, the rest will follow easier.

  • 8 Savic Vladimir // May 2, 2008 at 7:02 PM

Vukcevic is very selfish player.I watched Vukcevic when He play for Partizan Belgrade , nothing special.Trust me.

  • 9 Hamas (51times) // May 2, 2008 at 7:04 PM

valle – No f*cking trophy signings

  • 10 Nick C // May 2, 2008 at 7:09 PM

No, I do not like Gordon Brown.

  • 11 valle // May 2, 2008 at 8:03 PM

Hamas… Some f*cking good signings would do nice instead of all those second rates you always rable bout.

  • 12 toonbully // May 2, 2008 at 8:11 PM

Really I’m quite bored with the speculation crap . It’s to sell papers and to increase the wages and fees of agents and players . I want to see and buy young players who are not in their national side who are out to prove a point , who are keen and passionate . Not overpaid prima donnas coming to toon for a meal ticket with no determination on their future .
I’m glad the Rugby League seasons started some real passion and grit , if are midfield could put 120 tackles in for the match we’d be grateful !!

  • 13 robertsa // May 2, 2008 at 8:43 PM

I bloody hope theese arent kev’s ‘5 quality player’ yeah fine get them we need some more young talents but with derby down,… fulham bolton birmingham and reading could go down lets take some of their quality players Eg bullard nolan barnes zarate kitson

actually maybe not kitson but i wouldnt mind the rest

  • 14 valle // May 2, 2008 at 8:45 PM

So if they are proved players at international level, they are by default overpaid leaches only coming to NUFC to suck from the money tit?… Some people think to little of our club. Funny how everyone was over the moon when the Modric rumour arrived, now we suddenly dont want players of that class “because they only come for the money”… The grapes are sour said the fox

  • 15 valle // May 2, 2008 at 8:49 PM

robertsa… Dont worry mate, it dosnt make sense if you think about it… KK would go after Modric, and when that fails he would go after Vukcevic?… Dosnt exactly seem like players on the same page does it?… I reckon we will try for class, and we might get more burns, but we also might get some luck our way.

  • 16 robertsa // May 2, 2008 at 8:50 PM

    my dream team toon

    given

    beye taylor king rise

    milner vaart barton nolan

    martins owen

  • 17 robertsa // May 2, 2008 at 8:50 PM

    i hope so valle

  • 18 ronaldeano // May 2, 2008 at 8:53 PM

@Robertsa, you have left Van Der Vaart out!!!! :)

  • 19 robertsa // May 2, 2008 at 8:53 PM

its amazing to think that next season if the rumours happened our team could be

    jaskelinen
    bridge cuellar king rise
    mcgeady bullard nolan
    henry owen ashton

i would say that is worse than what we have

  • 20 robertsa // May 2, 2008 at 8:54 PM

    whoops forget him

    milner vaart nolan

  • 21 Hamas (51times) // May 2, 2008 at 8:55 PM

valle – What rabble would that be you soft tosser?

  • 22 valle // May 2, 2008 at 8:59 PM

Woah, dream teams… Hmm i might get lost here :D

    Harper (Deserves it)
    Beye
Taylor (I know he isnt the finished article, but i think he will be with the right backup)
    Metzelder
    Bridge
    Lennon
    Diego
    Butt
    McGeady
    Owen
    Berbatov

Tho i use some top players that we might not be able to get, i have left the completely unrealistic targest out like Messi and Ronaldo. i have also used players that we have been linked with at some stage of the season, and tried to keep a few so the team isnt a complete makeover (Butt might need to make way if we’re gonna hit big time)

  • 23 robertsa // May 2, 2008 at 9:00 PM

    rumours so far :
    mcgeady yes
    cuelar yes
    bridge no
    ashton no
arshavin yes but dont think it will happen
    rise yes
lennon i would get him, but it wont happen
    pennant no dont like him

  • 24 robertsa // May 2, 2008 at 9:01 PM

i hope kev gets the quality… he did last time

  • 25 valle // May 2, 2008 at 9:02 PM

Hamas… You and me would do this blog a favour by just avoiding each others posts, since i wont take your crap and i can see this going to the worse.

  • 26 ronaldeano // May 2, 2008 at 9:02 PM

If Spurs want Villa, does that leave the door open for us to make a cheeky bid for Berbatov???? :)

  • 27 robertsa // May 2, 2008 at 9:03 PM

    im on valles team

  • 28 Hamas (51times) // May 2, 2008 at 9:05 PM

You’re the only one giving sh*t mate, I haven’t even noticed you up until now. I bet you’re a f*cking outsider anyway, have you ever been to Newcastle in your life?

  • 29 ronaldeano // May 2, 2008 at 9:07 PM

Are you talking to me Hamas?

  • 30 Sal // May 2, 2008 at 9:07 PM

Overpaid prima donnas?? How bet we try pull an overpaid top FOOTBALL PRO?

Some might say Ronaldo is overpaid. Bollox to a teamfull of youngsters trying to break into their national side, bring in some top class players that are busting to prove themselves in the EPL along with the rest of the overpaid prima donnas.

We missed out big time on Modric, next move is another of the same ilk, we can afford it, and we can sustain it, no benefit in being the 16th most valuable club on the face of the planet if we cant go and show it.

  • 31 Hamas (51times) // May 2, 2008 at 9:09 PM

    No, that plastic Geordie valle.

And robertsa, Barry Glendenning recently called Geordies illiterates – you do nothing but help his claim with your posts.

  • 32 ronaldeano // May 2, 2008 at 9:11 PM

Good mate, cos ive been a season ticket holder since 1992 and ive been watching the toon since i was born!!!! :)

  • 33 valle // May 2, 2008 at 9:11 PM

Hamas…Im as big as fan as you will ever be, and yes i have… it cost me all that i had and i cant aford it that often, but it was a great experience for me. If you havnt seen me before, its because you have started late on this blog, since i havent used it since last year, but i was a regular poster since early 2007… April i think… Now as i said, you Hamas are a sad kid imo, and it seems you dont have high thoughts on me either, so give it a rest will ya?

  • 42 valle // May 2, 2008 at 9:23 PM

Bob… I often find thats what most people use it for :) … But on another note, your right since this its supposed to be for supporters of NUFC. I try to cool the temper, but damn it aint easy at times.

  • 43 ronaldeano // May 2, 2008 at 9:23 PM

    Agree Tom-Toon

  • 44 Leo // May 2, 2008 at 9:24 PM

Hamas as ive said in the past and i will say again, purposely targetting other members on this blog constantly is against eds rules, please show a bit more respect.

its easy to say something online and you could be writing to anyone, just be a bit more careful as you type.

  • 45 valle // May 2, 2008 at 9:26 PM

ronaldeano… Shouldnt we stick together if possible?… I mean, we’re all NUFC fans arent we?. I realize that some users are agressive and and act foolish, but its kinda sad if we’re at a point where we have to much animosity inside our own ranks.

  • 46 Leo // May 2, 2008 at 9:26 PM

btw valle isnt lying he has been on this site since the start….

dragoner is spyro i think valle, toonking is still on the blog, doesnt post as much as he used to though.

  • 47 ronaldeano // May 2, 2008 at 9:28 PM

@Valle, if you read the archives, i have been a bit irate sometimes (just a little bit like! )

But what can you do if a cockney or a Mackem comes on??? :)

It depends on how pissed i am!! the more i drink, the more irate i get!

but when wor lass gets in from work….

    i get such a slap!!! :)

  • 48 valle // May 2, 2008 at 9:31 PM

Leo… Cheers mate, we had allot of good discussions back then. Nice to see some of you old guys still hang around :)

  • 49 ronaldeano // May 2, 2008 at 9:31 PM

I think Spyro is a Spurs fan!!! He changed his name cos everyone hates the prick!!! :)

  • 50 Yeomsta // May 2, 2008 at 9:32 PM

is this a site for grown up football fans to discuss the highs and lows of their team or a place for immature hypocrites to sling mud at eachother over the playground?

£25million bid for VDV, he may not come but u have to buy a ticket to win the lottery :)

  • 53 ronaldeano // May 2, 2008 at 9:33 PM

Its only a bit of fun Yomesta! :)

  • 54 valle // May 2, 2008 at 9:33 PM

ronaldeano… Ahh, you mean supporters of other teams?… I have had some wild discussions with those guys too (Like the spurs fan the other day). I try to follow Eds rules tho, since i accept that kids use this blog, but im very guilty of “losing it” when someone directly provoke me… Its the primate genes showing in me i guess :)

  • 55 Leo // May 2, 2008 at 9:35 PM

aye it was good back then, its still as good now, if not better because there is more and more articles every day.

i like a bit of mud slinging every now and then as long as its light hearted and explitives are stared out such as f**k off etc of cnut lol.

  • 56 Yeomsta // May 2, 2008 at 9:36 PM

fair enough, each to their own and all that

  • 57 valle // May 2, 2008 at 9:36 PM

I think Yeomsta was referring to me and Hamas little spat, and he is right ofc, we both went over the top.

  • 58 scottish mag // May 2, 2008 at 9:37 PM

  • 59 valle // May 2, 2008 at 9:38 PM

  • 60 ronaldeano // May 2, 2008 at 9:41 PM

I like a good hard slagging match me!

It brightens up my night! :)

  • 61 thelongshanks // May 2, 2008 at 9:44 PM

    I think the modric situation has really made us believe we can get really top quality players in.But i am not gonna get my hopes up and realistic targets for this season with no offer of european football are;

    riise(sh1T)
    dunne(averge)
    lennon(fast but wud prefer nzogbia)
    gomis(biggest signing of the summer)
    bullard(good but nothing special)

I aint convinced with wise and his scouting network but am hoping im wrong and with strike some amazing deals.

    On rumours i would like;

    Gomis(new drog)
    Jaoquin(fast,just needs new challenge)
    bridge(wanted him last 3 seasons)
    arshavin(reason zenit peters in final)
    Metzelder(injury’s but otherwise worldclass)

  • 62 valle // May 2, 2008 at 9:46 PM

scottish mag… Hehe cheers mate, so you noticed that? :) … Guilty as charged lol

  • 63 scotty // May 2, 2008 at 9:59 PM

  • 64 toonarmy08 // May 2, 2008 at 10:01 PM

Jusy think of the players we could get from the relegation fighting teams.
    wigan-valencia,palacious.
    smogs-downing,huth,wheater
    reading-shorey,bikey
    brum-kapo,mcfadden,zarate.
    fulham-bullard,kamara
bolton-nolan,diouf.What do we think of some of these possibilities???

  • 65 scotty // May 2, 2008 at 10:03 PM

    downing and bullard

Peep Show. Thank god its back!

  • 70 Midjew // May 2, 2008 at 10:32 PM

SWP Would be a GREAT Signing. I think we only need 4-5 players and IF it was my CHOICE i would love to see us sign.

    CB- Dunne OR Metzelder
    LB – Bridge or Shorey
Winger – SWP and/or Jermaine Pennant(He is lookin on FORm)
    CF – Gomis or Crouch
NOT sure on DM but we need a new one.

    Then we could play

    ————Given————-
    Beye–Taylor–Metzelder–Bridge
    ————-Butt————-
    SWP———————Milner
    ————-Owen———–
    —Martins———Gomis/Crouch—

NOT THAT!!! Is a European Team for SURE.

And i think we could DEF get all those players.

And all would fit with KK way of playing.

    What you all think?????

  • 71 Leo // May 2, 2008 at 10:36 PM

yeah tom toon, im a bit of a peep show fanatic too lol. their first series where jez gets a job interview and he thinks he is doing to well so he pulls a face to the interviewee i watched that over and over it was soo funny

  • 72 Leo // May 2, 2008 at 10:38 PM

cuellar is my choice as a center back for sure, he has really shown how good he is, not just in the spl but in europe, he has been mightily impressive, when a ball gets put anywhere near the gers box he is in there heading it away

    bridge
dunne i doubt we wud get him though so metzelder
    veloso
    gomis
    joaquin

  • 79 Leo // May 2, 2008 at 11:55 PM

toonbarmy that looks a really good list for our team next year like.

add another player to the incoming list for me would be mcgeady or arshavin which would enable us to slip into 442

  • 80 geoffo // May 2, 2008 at 11:59 PM

Longshanks, not convinced by Wise scouting network??? The season isn’t even over, the guy hasn’t been given a chance! There is so much drivel being spouted on this site, ” I would play Taylor, he’s not the finished article etc…. WE NEED QUALITY AT THE BACK and have done for years, forget Taylor as first choice, we need to invest in top quality defenders for once, only then can we really challenge, Taylor should be undertudy to someone like Daniel Van Buyten, forget Peep Show this an NUFC forum isn’t it??? I’m ganing back to bed!!!

  • 81 nufc big al is god // May 3, 2008 at 12:03 AM

i think these are average players.
i wuld rather go for fletcher because he would be an amazing replacement for butt
i would also like cueller he was amazing again last night and arshavin would be a top signing.

  • 82 Toon_Ksk // May 3, 2008 at 12:16 AM

Valencia is in a financial crisis. I hope we go for some players from Valencia. Zigic, Mata, Albelda or maybe Edu(with PL experience).

Morning everyone, what I am looking forward to is a VR blog where we have virtual body suits and can punch the cr*p out of each other when we are a little uninhibited on a Friday night after a few bevvies, if we have a minor falling out. :)

  • 86 valle // May 3, 2008 at 1:19 AM

geoffo… I see your point, and i agree that its time to get a good backline… BUT… Taylor isnt THAT bad mate, he has played every game in our undefeated run, helping the team to several clean sheets. And how much would he improve as an understudy?. Put him next to an Metzelder next season and watch him go, and by the time we reach 09/10 he will be top class i reckon. Its also good to have a few locals in the team if they are at all good enough, since it gives hope to the other kids as well as helps the foreigners know what NUFC is all about.

  • 87 valle // May 3, 2008 at 1:21 AM

Toon_Ksk… What about Joaquin and Silva?

  • 88 ScottyT // May 3, 2008 at 1:53 AM

ugghh leo post 73 – i was one of them ppl lol

i find this specualtion boring tbh, the only time i take notice of a article like this is when the article has: either quotes from player/agenyt or their is a confirmed story that we have had cntract/transfer fee discussions.

that way we know who we defo are looking at compared to all the other sh1t that gets brought up/.

  • 89 Toon_Ksk // May 3, 2008 at 2:08 AM

    Valle-

David Silva and Joaquin are really good players, but I really do not think we will be able to sign them. They are “big name” players. Not confident that we will be able to attract them here. Not after the Modric saga.

I just wish and dream that we can sign those quality players from Valencia but realistically, we have no say and we don’t even know the players on KK’s list. Just hope Joaquin and Silva are at least on that list.

  • 90 Lawman // May 3, 2008 at 3:49 AM

Hows about Gattuso of Milan. We could have our own little Tevez. A little pit bull terrier who keeps biting at opponents heels and never giving up – always puting in 200% effort into every game. Was excellent for rangers and even better for AC.

Always expressed an interest in playing in the Prem. No clubs been linked with him yet so get in quick KK!!!

  • 91 joe // May 3, 2008 at 4:26 AM

Arguing on the internet and banging yr keyboard is like competing in the special olympics. You can win, but yr still retarded at the end of the day. =)

  • 92 KKN39 // May 3, 2008 at 5:02 AM

agree on David Silva but somehow i was told he’ll be off to barca. maybe we can at least try a 12m bid w/ “guaranteed” 1st team football and see how it goes. if Modric costs 16m Silva is surely worth that $ or more. along w/ Enrique our Spanish left flank can be awesome. fund the bid w/ the sale of Zog and/or Duff, Silva is much better.

  • 93 KKN39 // May 3, 2008 at 5:07 AM

btw, both players mentioned above are just not good enough to cut it at EPL. we can buy better or more proven players cheaper. e.g. i’d prefer Zarate and Arshavin or Boussoufa to these two anyday anyway.

  • 94 Toon_Ksk // May 3, 2008 at 6:14 AM

Just realised I left Vicente out. He is one of the better players in Valencia.

I THINK KEEGANS TOP QUALITY 5 PLAYERS ARE: CUELLAR, MCGEADY, ARSHAVIN, NOLAN AND ZARATE. THAT WOULD DO ME FINE.

  • 96 Hadji // May 3, 2008 at 9:32 AM

If Birmingham go down then Larrson and Forsell would be the players i would love to see in Newcastle.
Seem to me that Forrsell has overcome his injury problems and he could be our replacement for Viduka.

  • 97 Toooooooooooooooooon // May 3, 2008 at 9:40 AM

we better go for james mcfadden and bullard (which i see no problem in capturing both of them)

  • 98 Mark // May 3, 2008 at 10:12 AM

I can see Arshavin going to Germany as VDV’s replacement, really can.

Metzelder was linked ages ago, heard nowt since.

  • 99 scottish mag // May 3, 2008 at 10:16 AM

thats metzelder back in full training, lets see how he is doin and put a bid in, well atleast we know he has overcome that recent injury and if he can stay fit he would be an immense signing at the back

  • 100 John // May 3, 2008 at 10:40 AM

gattusso wants to leave AC ..get him..Perfect butt replacment

  • 101 Obafan // May 3, 2008 at 10:45 AM

scottish mag – Indeed the Metzelder rumour seems gone forever. But what about the rumours of:
    1. Arshavin? It really would be ashame if we did not go for him.
    2. Gomis? A couple of days ago NUFC would go for £14m offer, but nothing happenned IMO.
    3. Cuellar? If they really wanted him, they should have done something by now.

The recent names we are linked with are 2 players which I do not know, but13 goals in 81 games is not that fantastic for a striker. And Sporting is not the strongest team in Europe so I de not know if these players would strengthen our current squad.

  • 102 Hadji // May 3, 2008 at 11:00 AM

    Obafan…Dont worry my friend,the window’s not open yet.I’m 100 % sure that we’ll sign at least 5 top players.
I would love if could get Arshavin and Pogrebnyak together.
The way Pogrebnyak’s playing i allready see top teams to fight for this guy. He’s a player who’d fit Keegan’s style of play in no time.Perfect constitution for EPL…188 cm,fast, great heading abilities, perfect passer, knows how to keep the ball, and has eye for goal.In other words…PERFECT SIGNING.

  • 103 Hadji // May 3, 2008 at 11:12 AM

Russian players can adapt Newcastle’s north east climate much faster than the Spanish players who always miss the sun.

  • 104 Obafan // May 3, 2008 at 11:36 AM

Hadji – I know I have to be patient, but I would love Arshavin at NUFC. Why? He is such a good player and like you said he won’t have got any problems with the weather, that also is a big advantage!!!!

For me it would be perfect if these players were brought in; I give more options ;-) :
    LB: Dante Bonfim (Standard)
CDM: Liverani (Fiorentina; convinced me on Thursday) / Gattuso (AC Milan) / Veloso (Sporting)
CB: Cuellar (Rangers) / Richards (Man city) / Ujfalusi (Fiorentina)
    RW: Arshavin (Zenit)
    ST: Gomis (St Etienne)
    LW: Reyes (Atletico)

Let us hope that KK will get the players he want, cause at the end of the day that is the main thing cause he has got to work with the ;-) . And I think KK has got a top signing up his sleeves to surprise the football world, like he did in the nineties.

  • 105 Hadji // May 3, 2008 at 12:58 PM

Obafan…If you want my honest opinion about Arshavin is that i’d pick him instead Modric at any given moment.
You’ll see how Modric will be knocked out the ball easily, cause he wont be playing against Cibalija or Slaven Belupo in the EPL.

  • 106 robertsa // May 3, 2008 at 1:38 PM

i agree hadji this summer is major for us. cuellar nd mcgeady are decent but arshavin is brilliant. dont get me wrong i still want mcgeady nd cuellar but arshavin is class. another player to look at is mohamed zidan.

  • 107 toonlover // May 3, 2008 at 1:42 PM

i say chuk all the money in the pot nd get arshavin also robertsa zidan looks great but we havent had any links with him !! its a shame

  • 108 robertsa // May 3, 2008 at 1:44 PM

i know toonlover but he is pretty un heared of and keegan could get him cheap

  • 109 Hadji // May 3, 2008 at 1:45 PM

Zidan is good i must say,but he’s not the target man we are looking for.We need someone like:
    Pogrebnyak,Gomis,Zigic,Elmander,Huntelaar(I wish).
Tom Toon i was watching Mendy from PSG quite often this season and i must say that he impressed me with his crossing.I think he would be a good back up for Beye. What do you think about him?

  • 110 toonrmint // May 3, 2008 at 1:48 PM

richard dunne, cuellar , arshavin, van der vaart and maybe this zidan kid would be good for summer signings. But im looking forward to mcgeady what a signing that would be

  • 111 robertsa // May 3, 2008 at 1:50 PM

true like but maybe we could use zidan in the midfield

  • 112 robertsa // May 3, 2008 at 1:51 PM

i like elmander style of play

  • 113 Hadji // May 3, 2008 at 1:53 PM

Well if we continue with the 4-3-3 formation, having Zidan in the midfield could be a huge gamble at the expense of the defence.

  • 114 robertsa // May 3, 2008 at 1:56 PM

oh i i forget we played 433 oh well never mined

  • 115 robertsa // May 3, 2008 at 2:00 PM

in that case then if we need a target man i think we should look no further than peter crouch

  • 116 godteam // May 3, 2008 at 7:11 PM

    ———————Harper———————-

    —–Baye—Taylor— Metzelder—Enrique

    ———-Deco—-Veloso—Barton————

    Arshavin—————————Martin—–
    ———————-Owen———————–

    It’s my dream team toon

  • 117 chuck // May 3, 2008 at 8:55 PM

    Wish list, from the following.
    Bridge
    Dunne
    Cuellar
    Veloso
    Asshevin
    McGeady
    Gomis
And perhaps a couple of outstanding young kids for the youth team like the youngster @ PSG.
