Northern Rock On Newcastle Shirts Until Next Summer

With all the business problems Northern Rock have been going through over these last 6 months or so lots of Newcastle fans have been asking if they will continue to sponsor the club.

Northern Rock – will continue to sponsor club through next summer

Newcastle United announced to supporters today their latest kit will not change in appearance before the current two-season cycle ends next summer.

The current black-and-white striped shirt, complete with Northern Rock sponsor logo, will again be worn by the club next season and no chancges will be made until the end of next season.

A club spokesman said today:

“Because of the situation surrounding Northern Rock over the last few months, some fans have asked if our home shirt will be changing in appearance for the start of next season.”“However, we can assure them that is not the case.”

“We are halfway through the normal two-season cycle with this design and the team will again be wearing the current shirt for the 2008/09 season.”

We expect Newcastle to be in a good position to get a better sponsorship deal the season after next.

It will be interesting both to see which company wins the sponsorship deal, and whether we will still use Adidas kit or switch to a company managed by owner Mike Ashley.

Comments welcome.

If we were to petition anything it should be that the owner is the shirt sponsor, make do with that god awful Sports Direct sign at the ground and we have no logo on our home strip. I’d buy two 😉

I’d love to see Broon Ale on the shirts too, but I’d be shocked if it’s not Sports Direct.

Last I heard, Northern Rock paid up front for their sponsorship deal and FFS spent it. We have a contract with them to be our kit sponsor until such time as it expires – I have no idea when that is though!!!

There was even talk during the run on them, of us giving them a refund – that died out fairly quickly though. There certainly cant be many footy clubs round the world who are officially sponsored by the Government in this day and age!!! We may even be more unique than we thought.

Would be good to have a sponsored shirt that reflects the toon. The Brown Ale logo was best but cannot come back. How can Ashley sponsor with Sport Direct a team he owns?

I just hope the next home kit doesn’t have a white bib on the back! This is the first home kit i’ve ever boycotted, truly awful.

sports direct is not a team lol. its a company, its his company therefore he can do what he wants, he just uses funds from sports direct to fund the sponsorship of nufc… he has to put it in value terms though because stakeholders of the different companies wouldnt be pleased…

Maybe if NORTHERN ROCK has been bankrolled by the BANK OF ENGLAND , we could have that emblazoned on our chests , and a picture of Alistair Darling winking at everyone !
