Kevin Keegan has today paid a huge compliment to Newcastle Billionaire Owner Mike Ashley, by thanking him for not interfering with things at the club.
Mike Ashley – great owner for Newcastle United
Keegan is just delighted that Newcastle’s owner does not interfere in day-to-day football matters and that’s fine with Kevinm as he talked today to the Sunday Sun:
“It’s fantastic working for our owner,†“I never see him, and there are no leaks coming out of the club at the highest level. There can’t be when you never talk.â€
“What is happening to Sven-Goran Eriksson is beyond belief,†“I believe Sven’s remit in the first year of his contract was to get into the top half of the table – and this is the best season City have had in the Premier League.”
“If Sven leaves City then they’ve got to treat him well. He’s done nothing wrong. They need to pay his contract in full, shake him by the hand and treat him with respect.” “They need to let him go and get another job and there will be hundreds of people who want him as a manager . . . maybe even our fella. You don’t know.â€
“Nobody’s safe – but have they ever been? These things will happen more and more as you get more people with money, who have no real idea about football, running clubs.”
“The problem is when they are not prepared to leave the running of those clubs to people who do know football. That’s why Sven is in the position he is in.â€
We agree with Kevin and we think the actions of Thaksin Shinawatra, the Man City owner, are deplorable. Sven is much better off getting out of there, and we think Shinawatra will have a hard job attracting a top class manager to Eastlands. unless he agrees to keep out of the playing side of the club. There’s no chance Jose Mourinho will join unless he agrees to let Jose do it his way.
The situation at Liverpool is also not good, and American owner Hicks has been far too outspoken in his criticism of chief executive Rick Parry amid an Anfield power struggle that’s currently ongoing.
“They’re a club I love and I think Rick Parry has been treated disgracefully.” “What so-called businessmen, who are supposed to know about etiquette, are saying publicly in interviews should be said in the boardroom between individuals.”
“I’d like to think that’s the way it works at Newcastle. People always try to shoot holes in you but they can only shoot holes if you leave the gaps.”
“What I see – and I have my own opinion – is a guy in Hicks trying to get someone so riled that they’ll buy him out for more money. That’s what I see.”
“I might be wrong, but if that’s not the case then why don’t they just get together in a room and work a way through it?â€
Kevin is so right about this, and it’s a sad thing when one of the great English clubs is being disgraced by a Yankee owner. The sooner he gets out the better it is for the Reds.
However, at Manchester United, on the other hand, the Glazer family are doing great things at the club and it appears that Sir Alex Ferguson couldn’t be happier with them.
We also believe that things are now in place at the Newcastle club, to allow Kevin Keegan to bring us back into the fold of the great English teams – but of course only time will tell.
