Newcastle Battle Arsenal For Defensive Midfielder

Reports today that both Newcastle United and Arsenal are trying to sign Le Mans defensive midfielder Stephane Sessegnon.

Stephane Sessegnon – Newcastle and Arsenal interested

Reports suggest that Arsene Wenger has already contacted the French club regarding the player’s availability, because he feels that Mathieu Flamini will soon be off to Milan.

But Le Mans have claimed that Newcastle are also interested in the 23-year-old,

Stéphane Sessegnon was born in June, 1984 in Allahe, and is of Beninese nationality. He has played many times for the Benin National team, and had some impressive displays for Benin in the African Cup of Nations earlier this year, which we know Kevin Keegan watched.

Sessegnon is rated at around ₤4M, and has earned a reputation in Ligue 1 as an all-action defensive midfielder. The player himself however, also likes to go forward and score goals.

With Arsenal already in the mix if may be difficult to pull this one off, but the midfield is certainly an area of the team Keegan is keen on strengthening in the summer.

Stephane turns 24 years old in June and has played 41 times for Le Mans since moving there from US Creteil in France, in 2006, and has scored 4 goals for the club.  He stands just under 5’8″ tall.

all these players arsenal are linked with aswell as us wouldnt worry me .
wengers not one to spend money like that , he’s said himself his clubs in 380m pound debt !

at the most id be supprised if wenger bought one player over the value of 5 mill .

One paper says Wenger wants MARTINS but its just SPEC at the moment i hope MARTINS, OWEN, TAYLOR, stay at NUFC because they are our big players and losing and then signing good players is not the way foward we would be going around in circles. We need to keep our best players and sign quality to go with the quality we already have. IMO the players we need to keep are, OWEN,TAYLOR,MARTINS,NZOGBIA,GIVEN,MILNER,BEYE,ENRIQUE.

lee- its Eds website… im quite happy the way he is running it, alot of people dont have the time to go through all the sites around the net to find who we are linked with, if you dont want to hear about it, just read the articles which dont concern rumours….

back to the article, he is again a shorty 5.8″ also if arsenal are interested then he must be a decent player, but then we will probably not sign him…

I like the fact that we are linked with players like this…If it is in fact true and Arsenal and ourselves are following this guy then he cant be a bad.

If Arsenal are looking at him then he must be ok, Can you remember the last time Arsenal had a bad player in their team?

We have a lot to offer players like this, I mean he is only playing for Le Mans in France so a move to a big premiership team in England is a an attractive option, Not to mention he would obviously play more of an important role in our team than Wenger’s.

I would personally rather be after the players tht Arsenal are after than players that Chelsea and Spurs are after.

He would also have a year to settle in as Nicky Butt’s contract expires next season…

Well I guess that pretty much put’s Ed on your side there Hamas mate 😉 And I agree so no reason not to mention things even if they are b*ll*cks.

The cynical side of me says this is just another ‘use NUFC for a price jack’ ploy. TBH to sign another sub 5 foot 8 midfielder doesn’t excite me much anyway.

if arsenal are interested he must be good. However if arsenal are interested we aren’t going to get him. simple as that. Lets just stick to our prime targets Cuellar Mcgeedy Dunne. We dont want rumours about nobodies. It would be exciting if there were rumours about proven players like Julio Baptista and Andrei Arshavin.

Until we get more height in midfield, I would leave this one alone, unless he’s got speed to burn.

this guy is good but i would prefer m’bami, m’bia, or gattuso( wants to move to epl and be closer to his wifes family in scotland, cant get much closer to scotland than nufc in the epl can u) and not to sure if it is wise(lol see wot i done there) for dennis and that to be looking at more acn players although there are a lot of very good african players.

Personally, I love the speculation … I think its fun and conjours up all sorts of images as to who might be playing at our club, would they fit into our system of play, who else maybe after them, possible fee’s etc … If nobody speculated life around football would be really BORING …

I agree with the height issue in our squad .. we need more of it .. I think it would help intimidate other teams if we had a few of the lads 6 foot plus

Having said all that… Van der Vaart anybody?lol 🙂

On Van der Vaart, genius and gile would out do strength on a football pitch, he may not be strong but the other two he has/is.
