Newcastle Should Be Fighting For Top Four Place

Ricardo Carvalho has said today that with the players Newcastle have in their squad, they should be challenging for a Champions league place.

Carvalho – Newcastle should be fighting for European Champions place

Carvalho thinks that the Newcastle squad is so strong, they ought to be up there in the league, challenging for a top four place.

He acknowledges that Newcastle’s recent revival under Kevin Keegan will make an away win at St James’ Park tomorrow a tough task.

Ricardo said:

“It’s incredible that a team with names like Owen, Martins, Butt, Geremi, Viduka and Alan Smith is not fighting for a UEFA Cup place,”

“Injuries to key men and changes off the field have affected them, but they have come good in the last few weeks.”

“And a team playing without pressure is always very dangerous.”

And Ricardo has warned Newcastle that the Blues are approaching each of their last 3 games of the season as if they were all Champions League finals.

Chelsea will certainly have to be on their mettle tomorrow to beat a vastly improved Magpies side, who are now full of confidence under new boss Kevin Keegan.

Chelsea need to at least draw the game tomorrow, to keep the Premier League – and their potential double alive, and Carvalho insists they will be ready for the battle against Newcastle at 4:00 pm tomorrow afternoon as he said:

“We have three matches left this season, and we must win them all,” “The first is Newcastle, and it’s a match which, for us, is like a Champions League final.”

“Newcastle won’t be easy opponents, especially on their own ground. But we must win.”

“Our mission is to dominate possession from the first whistle and to create danger.”

“Nobody in the squad wants to fail and give the title to Manchester United in Newcastle.”

If we were pushed for a result, we’d have to take Newcastle to win the game, but only if they are at the very top of their form, and play with the passion we have seen often these last 7 games.

It should be a fantastic battle between two in-form sides, and we just cannot wait for the game to start.

Comments always welcome.

He mentioned UEFA cup place, I guess.

Anyway, every club is challenging for something each year. Don’t tell me there is any club will refuse the title if they unexpectedly wins it.

But we are far from Top 4 material. Compare our squad with the current top 4 and you will know what I mean.

everton and villa are the closest to the top 4 this season and they struggled to compete with top 4 over the whole season.

Bit of a damp day today tbh, any good news about? lol

Match tomorrow isn’t going to be easy and I can see Chelski going for it and Drogba maybe again slaughtering us.

Good news though We’re top dogs in the North after yesterdays results 😀

Hahaha…as much as I want Shola to be sold, I don’t think he will fair too badly next season with Stoke. He has all the attributes of a good striker and simply requires a good run as a 1st team player – which I’m sure he’ll get at Stoke

yh i know i hope ameobi is sold as he can’t cut at newcastle anymore. 4 million will be a good price and i really hope that newcastle can compete for top 6 next season as it would do wonders for my football manager if we go into europe

top 4.. hmm think he myt have been drinking b4 he answered this question

top 6 should defo be aim next season.. everyone always says big names but we need good quality players not good reputation players like we have. if any1 thinks we should be challenging top 4 next season i suggest som1 hits them.

them expectations are way too high.. in the next 2/3 or 4 years then yes but not next season.

The players we are linked with are rejects from mid table clubs… Dunne and Bent. Not good enough. Cough up Mr Ashley. It is nowhere near enough to be standing with the fans. Much rather have you in the directors box and £100M up front. You have spent nothing. Stop courting the fans and deliver.

Thank god we have not got 11 Alan Smiths. Geremi is past it as well. We need top quality midfielders.

I’m well up for tomorrow afternoon, will be @ pub lads to will catch up on the banter if I can still see straight let alone hit the right keys on the keyboard

Hope for 2-2 or better for us – it’s bitter sweet really, either we lay down and let Chel$ki back in and piss off Alex, or we could win tomorrow and do him a favour – either way we’re shafted.

Would rather see points on the board for us and the end of the day tough.

slow news day. I have been thinking about liverpools formation of 4-2-3-1 and wondering whether it could work with some of our realistic targets, what about:
    ——————-Given——————–
    beye—–taylor—-dunne——-riise
    ———–barton—nolan—————–
    —–mcgeady—owen–martins——–
    ——————-bent———————
It’s just an idea, though im sure gomis for bent would be a much more popular choice!

No problem with Riise. Not my favorite left back but I quite like his quality in attacking.

Wouldn’t want to see Duune, espercially after seeing him totally destroied by Torres today. Think Faye is better than him anyway.

Bent would be a big no for me. I am sure there are many better and cheaper options.

I watched the highlights of the Liverpool/ManC game on MOTD and was totally unimpressed by Dunne. He was as I have said many times slow and clumsy and he wasn’t even able to stop Torres by several fouling attempts. What really clinched how bad he his as far as I am concerned is that he bottled every shot coming at him, turning his back every time instead of trying to stop them. I hope KK saw the game and looks elsewhere for a centre half.
Edgar is far better than him now but if KK is wanting fresh blood there has to be better options.

If players like Dunne are the pinnacle of KK’s ambition then we will be lucky to get a top ten place next season.

It will be a tough game today, and I hope all our players are well up for it. End of season games in the past few years have not had so much riding on them so far as Chelsea are concerned but this one is huge and they will be looking to hit us with pace and power on the counter attack.

Could not agree more about Dunne, I have said before he is far too slow, any opposing forward with a bit of pace and he ends up on his arse. We have to be looking for better than him, please KK do not waste your money on him.
Not at all keen on bringing Bent either, especially not at the quoted £12m by far too expensive for an ok player.
