Newcastle Maintain Interest in Bruno Alves

News today that a player Big Sam Allardyce was interested in – Porto’s center-back Bruno Alves, is still interesting Newcastle United.

Porto’s Bruno Alves – 6’2″ central defender

Sam Allardyce was said to be looking at Alves last November, but no bid was made for the player by Newcastle United in January.

However, it seems that the big Porto center-back may be interesting Kevin Keegan, but quite honestly we’d be a little surprised if this is true.

Keegan has said he is interested in players with premier League experience and we had some trouble at the beginning of the year with our defenders, who took some time to get used to the physical demands of the Premier League.

Bruno Eduardo Regufe Alves, was born in Porto, Portugal in November, 1981, and is a 6’ 2” central defender at Porto, for whom he has played 62 times since 2005 and scored 4 goals. He is a strong tall player who is a particularly good header of the ball.

Alves gained a place in the FC Porto starting eleven this season and has not looked back and Portugal manager Luiz Filipe Scolari gave the defender his full Portugal cap in June of last year against Kuwait. He has since played 6 times for his country and scored one goal.

Here is Alves playing record so far:

Years Club Games Goals

1999-2002 FC Porto B 55 8
2002-2003 SC Farense (loan) 46 3
2003-2004 Guimarães (loan) 25 1
2004-2005 AEK Athens (loan) 27 0
2005- FC Porto 62 4

2007- Portugal 6 1

Comments very welcome.

KK sounded very emotional in that interview, and it sure seems like he have been told that there is no chance of him getting the funds he thought he would… I also think he is still furious that we didnt go that ekstra mile for Modric… Look at what he was saying 2 weeks ago, about all the money he would have and how if you dont try for a player, you wont get him and compare to this downbeat interview… Something happened behind the scenes

Havent seen Amorebieta but he isnt a spansh international, doesnt have european experience and considering how good Bruno Alves is i doubt he is better.

Well… i look at is this way… Whoever we buy needs to be as good in the air and as strong as Faye (or better) as well as adding more positional and tackling pedigree than Faye has.

And who are we going to drop?? the great Steven Taylor? Yes we need a class CB but Faye is head and shoulders above Taylor, Amorbieta is miles ahead of Taylor but he appears to be the best thing since sliced at the club. That said he had a good game today.

Scott H11.. I dont think people see Taylor as you describe, but he is good when you consider his age, and it is important to keep an element of players who knows what NUFC is all about… No, Oba seems to be the greatest thing since sliced bread in most NUFC supporters mind.

Taylor is fb. He showed that yesterday. Faye is the weak link in the defence, and it’s an area we need to improve.

All this speculation is crap though, as 90% of it won’t materialise.

Said my piece yesterday about Alves. Why is he nicknamed the Karate Donkey? His kick in the back of some players neck is on YouTube. We will not be getting these players. Now Crouch is back in the frame according to the Mirror. No, no, no! To listen to them we may as well ask Mother Goose for one of her stories! Still think Wright-Phillips is worth a go. Try and keep Zog. Time to get some of the reserves pumped up. Produce our own stars and have a go. Smith and Barton are never going to do it and Butt must naturally fade in coming seasons.
