Newcastle announced yesterday that they have allowed Turkish midfielder Emre to join up with his national side ahead of this summer’s European Championships.
Emre – has been allowed to join up with Turkey for European Championships
Emre is nearly always injured, and he has not played for Newcastle’s first team since February 9th, but it looks like he will be fit and ready to go for Turkey this summer.
Let’s hope he doesn’t get himself injured again.
He will not figure in the final game of the season at Everton next weekend and so Keegan will have seen precious little of the Turk since Keegan arrived back at Newcastle in mid-January.
The 27-year-old has made just 17 outings this season, and like Mark Viduka, has been continually dogged by injury during this campaign.
Turkey will kick-off their European 2008 campaign against Portugal in Geneva on June 7, and Kevin Keegan has confirmed the Turk will link-up with his national side this week.
Kevin told Newcastle World TV:
“We will let Emre go to join the Turkey side because we don’t want to throw him in and get injured,”
“That would not be fair because he’s just got himself back fit again after two bad injuries.”
Looks like Joey Barton will also not play on Sunday against Everton and Kevin may give some other players their chance as he continued:
“Joey also will not be playing and we will go there (to Everton) with a different side and maybe give one or two people a chance who deserve it but have had to wait.”
Maybe we will see Lamine Diatta on Sunday. The Senegal captain has hardly been used since January, and he has made just two brief substitute appearances so far this year.
We’d also like to see Andy Carroll get a run out for Mark Viduka, and hope it’s not Alan Smith who replaces Mark. We don’t want to be too harsh on Alan, but he cannot play the hold-up game, which is one thing young Andy is good at.
That’s one thing we really missed in the second half against Chelsea, and we need to ensure we get someone new in the summer, who can play that game, so we do not miss Viduka so much when he’s out injured, which is quite a lot.
