Bad news today from Stoke City, who were promoted last weekend to the Premier League.

Shola Ameobi - having second thoughts on move to Stoke City
The news from the Midlands club today was that Ameobi has been missing his native Tyneside and is now not 100% certain that he wants to leave St James’ Park after all.
Tony Jimenez and Dennis Wise negotiated a great loan fee of £575K for Ameobi’s loan spell at the Britannia Stadium.
The overall plan was that once Stoke gained promotion, which they did last weekend, the plan was for Ameobi to make the move permanent with £4M being the already agreed-to transfer fee paid to Newcastle. Good work by Wise and Jimenez.
But if Ameobi pulls out then he could well be back at Newcastle in July, but we just don’t think that will happen, in all practicality.
Yes, he has a contract at Newcastle and has every legal right to stay at the club until his contract expires.
But we expect Kevin Keegan to make it clear to Shola, that he’s not part of his plans for the future, and if Shola wants to progress his stalled football career he should be moving to another club.
Apparently Stoke manager Tony Pulis is trying to persuade Ameobi to still join the Potters and has offered him a £1M-a-year contract – around 20K a week.
We don’t think Shola has much, if any, future under Kevin Keegan, who will bring in another top striker in the summer, and we think that will be made clear to the player. And it will be sooner rather than later.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Bad news for Ameobi. He may be missing tyneside, but tyneside is not missing him.
Ameobi has had far too many chances at SJP and he has never fullfilled them.
Without doubt it is time for Shola to move on.

shola so much potential and no heart he depresses me when i see him in the black and white

Shola has had his day on Tyneside. He has clearly proved that he just isnt up to being THE CF everyone wants at SJP.
It could be that now Stoke are promoted, he doesnt know if he can handle the pressure of being their main striker and leading the line for them. Whats it going to be - blood and guts every weekend for Stoke, or sitting on his arse at NUFC, doing nothing but still get paid for the remainder of his contract??
Shola, get your pen out and sign the contract - you have NO future at Newcastle United. Thanks for your time and efforts in the past, but goodbye.

Agree with all of the above - the guys a joke if he thinks hes too good for Stoke. More fool them if they pay £4m and give him £20k a week. What a donkey!

Shola, Shola Shola. Every transfer window Id prey you would be out the door BUT every transfer window you would be injured! (you cant be sold and pass a medical if your injured eh). You got away with it time and time again. Then when the transfer window closed … Shola’s fit and rareing to go. lol, youve had your fun now jog on. Sorry, that would require you to expend some energy wouldnt it … Taxi for Bambi-obi
If you love this club, earn us £4M and do one!

I think Shola like Chopra, robinson, pattison, etc. who promise so much & deliver so little both at the toon & their next employers.
So shola, if you dont go to stoke please sign for the mackems for £5m

Howay Shola! Newcastle upon Tyne to Newcastle Under Lyme… What could be more poetic…….? Sign for Stoke!
Pleeeeeeeeeease!

Thank God for that - we don’t want him here at Stoke - please Ameobi continue to be home sick !!

BYE BYE SHOLA (shiite) AMEOBI….sorry had to be said, AGREE with other comments made, he has no heart, no determination. DEPRESSING IS THE CORRECT TERM when speaking about Ameobi!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shola wake up and smell the coffee man…you are better off signing the contract at STOKE and trying to refresh your painfully vanishing career!!!
GOOD LUCK you will need it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11 Toon_Ksk // May 7, 2008 at 13:23
He is not good enough even for stoke
12 Ashton // May 7, 2008 at 13:26
imo he is better than smith
13 maggpie // May 7, 2008 at 13:27
It would be a result to get him off the wage bill on a free transfer. If Stoke are stupid enough to pay £4m for him then God help them.
Seemingly nice lad but a truly chronic footballer who I think will slide into non league.

Glad to know he misses Tyneside. Glad to know he feels a missing for geordieland. Perhaps he would settle better with Roeder and Clark at Norwich? A pity he did not develop enough for us.
15 Adedpa // May 7, 2008 at 13:31
Shola promised us so much and don’t u forget he was even nick named the “Black Shearer” oh my he has delivered so little. I must emphasise that we allow him out on loan again so that we do not have another “Steven Caldwell” now doing so well at Celtic or a “Louis Saha” coming on from the Bench to score against us last time out. THEY ALWAYS COME BACK AT US AND THAT IS WHAT I HATE SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!
16 Faustino // May 7, 2008 at 13:41
No problem….Sunderland will pay more for him anyway!

Don’t blame Shola for not liking Stoke. Perhaps he was going potty in the potteries! But he has to think of his career options. All we have got for him is the the mackems, Gateshead etc. What about Blyth Spartans or Whitley Bay? I think Roeder will come in for him soon now.Point is he is still a NUFC registered player and must have a selling price even if he may be nearing his sell-by date.Still wish he could have made it with us.
19 HeronMag // May 7, 2008 at 14:02
Ashton does have a point like. He’s scored more than Smith haha!
20 steve // May 7, 2008 at 14:04
Was grateful to Ameobi when his goals kept us up under Roeder - however I agree he should take Stokes offer as he just isn’t good enough and has had enough chances - also agree he’s better than Smith by a long way but then again Dwain Chambers is better at rugby than Smith is at football.
I’d imagine that Stokes long ball style is putting him off more than the fact he’s homesick - they are almost certain bets to do a Derby next season although I wish em well

Stoke is a complete dump … i dont blame him
i rekon he mite got wigan/bolton

He will score goals, but they wont be pretty, Stoke is a good offer, £20k per week is a good wage, if he stays in the premiership it will be to put on if everyone else is off sick, it could end up so far away from when he scored a goal that once that contract ends there could be nothing.
Stoke want him because of his recent scoring record, he should sign while people’s memories go back that far.
If he starts knocking in the goals regularly he will get called up again somewhere.
Carroll should learn a lesson from him, you can be a nice lad, have a decent scoring record but if you do not try really hard when given a chance then it can all slip away from you.
Carroll will be joining him soon if he doesnt waken up.

cant really blame him, ive heard some nasty things about the area where stoke play and train and although i have never been there to confirm this i would not want to be living there to be honest
25 big pea ov the weab // May 7, 2008 at 15:16
ive worked in stoke it is a dump but surely on 20k a week he could travel 20 mile a day for training
26 toon91 // May 7, 2008 at 16:00
i like him, definitely a better option to have on the bench than smith
27 staffsmag // May 7, 2008 at 16:30
Bongo - sod off back to your own web site - how the hell did you get a computer in Stoke anyway - it must be stolen !!!! lol
28 smirny72 // May 7, 2008 at 16:50

Tell you what if I was a Stoke supporter, I would be onto this site wishing Shola away. I was going to do a post on the Villa site as it was saying they may be after Carr. I was going to suggest a swap for Barry but couldn’t be bovvered in the end.
30 CRAIGG // May 7, 2008 at 17:57
Ive got to say it again, I would rather Ameobi any day than Smith
At least Shola has made a lot of positive contributions over the years what has Smith ever done for our club?
31 Spot The Zebra // May 7, 2008 at 18:02
imo everyone is better than smith
32 Spot The Zebra // May 7, 2008 at 18:03
However, imo everyone is better than Shola except for Smith.

Has anyone got P Scudamores’ email? I looked on the Premier league website and there is no way of contacting him…..Classic ignoring what the market wants, this is fine in the short term but in a few years we’ll haved the same level of interest as the Celtic Rangers show.
P SCUDAMORE YOU HAVE YOUR HEAD IN THE SAND!

500,000 quid a year…..god I wish I was average at football. I’m gonna start training. I
m only 28 and if I can get to Sholas level of skill…….done…..now I’m ready for the bench.
36 Taiwantoon // May 8, 2008 at 9:24
Roeder seems likely to rescue us by taking Ameobi to Norwich.
Well, my joke is a bit harsh on Shola, but he needs to move on for himself too.
