Some bad news today for Newcastle fans because Kevin Keegan has said that Mark Viduka will be out anywhere from three to six months after his Achilles tendon operation.
Mark Viduka – out up to 6 months 🙁
Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan said he would know in the next fortnight whether Viduka would be fit to start next season.
Kevin said at today’s press conference:
“Mark Viduka could be out for three to six months,”
“That’s a blow for us but we’ll see.”
“We’ll know more in two weeks and will inform you then.”
“Mark’s done great for us so that’s a blow.”
Viduka has proved since Kevin Keegan arrived, that he is a key player at Newcastle, and he has been in good form for the club, seemingly having a good playing understanding with Michael Owen and Oba Martins.
Mark Viduka was a doubt for last Monday’s game against Chelsea, and as it turned out, he lasted only 45 minutes before being replaced by the ineffective Alan Smith in the second half.
Mark’s English season is now over, and we expect his operation to take place very quickly.
Viduka has been troubled by niggling injuries this season, which have included problems with his hamstrings, calf and ankles.
The rest he will get following his operation will do Mark a lot of good, and we hope he comes back next season in great shape – he’s an important player for this New Newcastle side, that’s for sure.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1I hope Keegan plays Carroll, or changes formation, on Sunday. Otherwise Smith will be starting!

Comment #2worst bit of toon news in a while guys, first half against chelsea viduka was the man holding the right flank and bringing the team up the pitch, such a beautiful player that holds the ball up so very well, GOODERZ, unfortunatley it will be that mug smith who will start and make beye look a muppett because he can hold his pants up never mind the ball.
Keegan needs to sign a younger version of viduka!!!!!!!!!

Comment #3Oh no not Smith to start! Last game bung in Carroll at the beginning. Try out some others as well. It is no good talking about building the team when you keep Smith employed.

Comment #4Carroll deserves a chance I feel. Even if he is meant to be an arrogant tosser.

Comment #7Viduka isnt expensive, if this happens to Owen…..
Maybe it will wake them in to buying another good striker.
Carroll should be played, if he is good keep him, if not sell him this Summer and bring Fabio through in the reserves, they should also play Lua Lua and judge if he should be in the first team-I think he should, if not sell himm too and make some money, keep the conveyor moving until they find the first team players they are looking for, otherwise we will have reserves the age of Nicky Butt, cant stay forever in the reserves.

Comment #8rutehh: viduka and saviola are vastly differing players! i think kk should go for gomis cos viduka and gomis are very similar players.. and gomis could benefit from training alongside viduka, because viduka has vast experience in this role..

Comment #9If it is six months that will be the last time he plays at SJPI reckon. Shame.
Ian if they weren;t already planning on doing it this must have changed their plans! Money on it’ll be Andy Johnson or Peter Crouch.

Comment #10Viduka has only another season left in him at best anyway. If this spurs the club into bringing in a replacement now, then its a good thing, although not for the Duke!!
According to sky sports. Liverpool want £15 Million for Crouch if he is going to leaave Anfield!!!!

Comment #11gooderz – i agree we cant get top half anymore so why not give a few of our youngsters a chance vs everton like carroll, edgar, lua lua and maybes even kadar or tozer.
having said that im pretty sure itll be a straight swap smith for viduka. viduka is a big loss always been a fan of his gr8 control and little flicks and hold up play is top class. hopefully he wont miss too much of next season but means we need another striker for defo id say.
give carroll a chance on sunday tho!!

Remember the fuss about that Zamblera?
Stick him on…Just to see what he can do…Those who’ve seen him in the reserves must remember Ameobi was amazing alot of the time for the reserves but was one of, if not, the worst player in the black n white in the first team.

Comment #13the 4-3-3 just doesn’t work w/o someone of the Duke’s quality holding the ball up. i think we’ll go 4-4-2 now that he’s out.

Comment #17Ant I agree put Fabio on at the front and see how he performs, the reserves seem to be holding on to players instead of trying them in the first, if they dont cut it sell them, better to get a little money for them and try another, Carroll has gone wrong somewhere along the line, I think he is good due to the support he has in the reserves, he isnt half the player in the first team, Ameobi is 10 times better and that is saying something.

Comment #18I don’t care which team will be played on Sunday as long as Smith is not in the squad. With him in the team we play with 10 players. He is such a loser.

Comment #19Oh 6 months for Viduka is a long term. I should say now we should step up the effort to sign Batefimbi Gomis from St etienne as he is a same type of player as Viduka.

Comment #21SH1T that has to be the worse news i have heard in a while when it comes to injuries
viduka needs to be backed up by another big strong striker, even thoughwe have carroll next season will be spent learning the trade, we need someone to play alot of games.

Comment #22This is why I’ve been saying from day, that we should get rid of him. People are easily impressed after a few average performances. The said player and Emre must go ASAP. Both have terrible appearance records.
We really should bring in Gudjohnsen this summer. A quartet of Martins, Owen, Gudjohnsen and Gomis would have everything. I honestly think that line up would be top 3 quality!
