i do hope that its al lbull shit but there are other papers and feeds reporting it now too, the guardian, the star, tribal football etc ok, i know they are all wank outfits and tribal footy is just about the worst thing i have ever seen but either way, this kind of crap is not good for us and the club. i see that newcastlemad are also saying it too!
ashley or mort need to nip this crap in the bud and come out and say that there is no such truth in it otherwise it will develop like a pigging snowball of ill feeling and unrest.
being the type of club that we are now, i can not believe that he will do that to owen. its not cos he lvoes him or anything liek that, its cos we are now run like any other buisiness.........for profit, not passion (alas). the fact is this, if they wanted to save money then they would give him what he wants, 115k a week. if the want to limit the ceiling at 80k that means that they want to give owen a 35k a week pay cut, that amounts to 1.8 million a year less, multiply that by 4 (length of new deal) and that comes to 7.2 million they would have saved on keeping his salary at 80k instead of 115k. So, owen would leave if they are adamant it would be 80k, that means we would have to find another world class name like owen for less than 7.2 million. if they pay any more than that it means that they might as well have signed owen on again for what he wants.....get it?! so, me thinks that mortisher will have crunched all these numbers well and truly and they will be aware of this fact too. besides, given that we can not attract any world class names at all, we'd be best hanging onto the one that we have. thus i conclude that owen will get his deal sorted out.......purley cos it SAVES newcastle money to give him 115K a week........stick that up ya arse daily mail, do the maths!

Having looked up the Actim Index numbers (not just Owen's goals & contribution within NUFC, but compared to the entire Premiership) Owen averages 13 points per match (as of the end of the April). IF he were fit for 36-38 matches per season, that puts him in the top 20 players in the League. Shockingly, he is paid on par with the top 15 players in the League. Just doesn't seem fair, does it?

Injuries seeming to be behind him [touch wood] this doesn't seem the time to cut his pay. Surely he could get 60-70k at someplace like Pompey or even Everton. If Newcastle want to keep a top player at club currently outside the top half...cutting his wages isn't the way to do that. Mike Ashley did not become a billionaire by being a stupid businessman.

Well, all that, plus it's the Mail.

Although reducing wages is one way to sustain the club, it's clear that we can't attract player in 100k per week bracket. If we want to do that, we need to pay 5 times his yearly wages to get him. approx 25M. (or should I say at least 25M).

So, for this moment, it is wise to tie up Owen's contract. Even though we are playing over the odds for a player who has yet to score 20 goals a season but if we need to pay at least 15M to get a 80k a week bracket player to come over. And we are still not sure where we are going to get them.

So, a 35k a week difference isn't that much since there will be no transfer fee involved. Think again MA.

Also says in the EVENING CHRONICLE that ASHLEY want wage cuts as the clubs turn over is getting too close together and he is putting the onus on the manager to reduce wages when weighing up his playing staff. First casualties could be OWEN and TAYLOR. WHAT A JOKE YOU ARE ASHLEY go ahead get rid of our best players to feed your own feckin ego and bank account. GREED beyond belief.

I never believe a word that comes out of the Daily Mail or Mail on Sunday about NUFC. For some reason they seem to have hated us for a lot of years now. Every other paper is pretty much saying they don't know what was discussed in the meeting, yet the Mail claim to know exactly what was discussed to the level of Owen's wages? They're lying... again. Another case of southern based journalism thinking they've got their own little soap opera from NUFC.

As to wage structures, the value of Owen's goals, along with Oba's, can't be underestimated. Neither can Owen's team contribution, since changing role's. Forget how much he's on at this stage (in a full season with a team playing well, he'd have been on 25+ goals, wouldn't he?!) and look at players who aren't doing it for NUFC. Smith, Duff, even Geremi are probs on high wages and not good enough. Carr's wages have now gone, which is great. Ameobi, hopefully will find another club too.

If we're in a position of having to find decent quality players, on lower wages, how are we expected to even get top 6 next season? If the wages are too high across the board, it's just another point showing it'll be a long hard fight to undo the damage done by Freddie Shepherd and previous muppet managers!

unrealistic asking him to drop down to 70k pw .
there are teams out there that will cover his wages (pompy for starters) so i wouldnt expect holding onto him if the mail turned out tobe true for once

Should we cut Owen's wages? - NO
Should we have been paying him as much in the first place? - NO

Again the current board will have to live with the decisions of the previous regime.

I suspect that Getting rid of Carr, Ameobi, Rozehnal will probably not save us that much money - though I guess every little helps. Traditionally the club policy has not to pay top dollar for defenders, nor will Ameobi be one of the big earners at the club.

Compared to last year - the club have done a good job of averaging down the wages. Making Taylor stick to the terms of his existing contract and getting rid of the likes of Luque has seen a move in that direction. I guess getting shot of Smith will further help and things will look a bit more on an even keel.

It is important that the club is not starved of funds, however it looks as though everything being done at the moment is for the long term stability of the club which cannot be a bad thing.

First of all can i say i find this story hard to believe especially considering which newspaper it originates from. However if it is true...
We must aim to keep players of Owens quality which will mean paying top wages for him.I can see why Ashley wishes to reduce the total wage bill when ours is compared to other squads however this should be done by releasing squad players who are underperforming or are often injured. For instance by moving on Alan Smith and Stephen Carr we will reduce total wages yet would be be miss these two next season?

The Daily Mail must surely go down in history as the personification of bull toss.

Absolutely utter utter dross and yet another pathetic attempt at mischievous making because they are so inept at any journalistic ability.

Treat this story with the contempt it deserves which is considerable given the nature of such fabricated crap.

That paper wouldn't make a good landing strip for flies and nor would it's scum bag staff.
