Could Newcastle Go After Anelka?

There is news today that Chelsea are ready to allow Nicolas Anelka to move on in the summer.

Nicholas Anelka – while at Bolton

Chelsea signed Anelka from Bolton in January, so it’s just five months after signing the French striker for £15M. This would be Anelka’s 9th move in his career, and his total transfer fees in those moves is around £85M.

Anelka, who is now 29, has failed to make an impact at Chelsea, and of course Kevin Keegan is only too well aware of the Frenchman’s ability, since he played for him at Manchester City.

Nicholas’ glowing comments about Keegan, when Kevin was appointed at Newcastle in January, suggest he would be only too happy to play again for the Newcastle manager.

We think Kevin and Newcastle will be interested, because Kevin has already talked about moving quickly, if players you don’t expect, are suddenly put on the market.

He would be a great acquisition for Newcastle, because he can play the hold up game that Viduka plays so well. But Viduka is injured a lot, and he may be out until December with his Achilles tendon problem. Graeme Souness was interested in Anelka a few seasons back, when he managed Newcastle.

And don’t believe all the sulk stories you hear about Anelka, those were when Nicholas was much younger, and he’s matured a lot since then.

He’s played for France 44 times and scored 11 goals, and started his career at PSG in 1995. He moved to Arsenal in 1997, when he was just 18 tears old, and has so far played for 9 different clubs. He played 65 games at Arsenal scoring 23 goals, before moving to Real Madrid in 1999.

He was at Manchester City from 2002 – 2005, played 89 games and scoring 38 goals – not too bad.

But of course there will be other clubs in the mix if he does become available.

Comments welcome.

Anelka would probably replaced MO but I still don’t see that coming. However, Anelka would be better than Shevchenko. He is a borned goal striker, you can see he plays quite well in Bolton. So why replace him as he didn’t play 1st team football in Chelsea.

I think he is of real quality despite not getting that much time on the field. He can be a fantastic signing to us.

I’d like to see Anelka at the club (for the right price of course) as he could be a great candidate to take Viduka’s place now he’s injured.

However his future may well depend on another’s, and that’s Didier Drogba. If he leaves Chelski then they would be more reluctant to sell.

Pure fantasy. Not for NUFC. Rather have Gudjohnson. A Chelsea hack – no way.

Sell Owen for 7 mil and buy Anelka (will cost more, imo) is not really economic, i think

A strike force of Anelka, Owen, Martins and Viduka would scare most defences I’m sure. Who says we have to sell Owen to buy Anelka seeing as we’ve been looking to buy a tall striker anyway. Linked with Gomis again today in the press would be goo d I reckon but not for the reported £17 million.

How about Anelka, Martins and Gudjohnssen/Gomis ha ha? To me there just seems to be more balance to be had than what we have and I still question whether Owen will stay now the question of punds appears to be being broached. In a perfect world I’d still have Mickey but not at 120k it’s ridiculous for a club in our position.

However, hanging Viduka out to dry is a definite for me though. For a guy who has been fit five minutes to be out for six months and at his age – has to be gone really. If he is out six months that will be end of november/start of december assuming no complications and we all know how the cold seems to effect his return to fitness. For a club allegedly worrying about wage bills it’s this kind of issue that is tantamount. Can anyone remember when we did’t have a huge queue to the docs office? Bad medicine.

IMO he will leave Chelsea for less than 10 millions. If that ever happen, I think we should buy him. He is a proven scorer

I sometimes wonder if Anelka has to stop and look to see who he is playing for before he goes onto the pitch. He is the ultimate footy mercenary, having said that he is a class player and if we got him he would be a good addition to the squad, even better if we actually kept him for a few seasons.

His scoring record for Bremen and Hamburg

Then compare it to relegation threatened teams or small teams in denmark.

I like him, and think he’d be a great signing. That said, unless he’s on a free, and prepared to accept £200.00 per week then I can’t see us getting anywhere near him. It pains me to say it but Ashley’s a tightwad and I think we should steel ourselves for another summer of discontent. It’s amazing to think that after last season’s massive 9m net spend, plus the fact that we have some of the highest gate receipts in the prem’, and the fact that we are now debt free…unlike the ‘big four’, that we are having to lower our sights at all. Remember being linked with Batistuta? Rivaldo? Ronaldo? Come back Fat Fred – all is forgiven!
Christ on a bike – I can’t believe I’ve just said that! Sorry folks!

come on you cant be serious, how can anyone call owen a moneygrabber, shouting for him to leave, before suggesting we sign anelka? probably the biggest mercenary the premier league has ever seen?
he’d play for your local every sunday if the money was right.
