There is continuing news that Newcastle United are interested in Liverpool’s left back, John Arne Riise.
John Arne Riise – moving to Newcastle?
News today that Newcastle United Football Club are plotting a £3M raid on Anfield for the Norwegian International.
It’s common knowledge that Kevin Keegan wants to improve his back four and bring in a new experienced left back, and most of the players he wants to bring to the club in the summer will need to have Premier League experience.
It would seem to us that Riise would fit the bill, and then he’d have to fight it out with 22 year-old Spanish Under-21 International Jose Enrique, for the left back spot.
But of course Riise can also play on the left side of midfield, and so could also replace Charles N’Zogbia, who seems to want to leave the club for London in the summer.
Liverpool’s Spanish manager Rafael Benitez was asked if he would let Riise go in the summer and he said:
“He is still our player at the moment and he knows if we receive a good offer – good for him and the club – it could be,â€
“But he is a fantastic professional.â€
Seems to use that Benitez wants to sell him, with a comment like that.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Comment #3He will want the LB all the time for wages that will be excessive. Give Tozer a run out first and go from there. As the National Press has hijacked all negotiations, and NUFC transfers, it looks as though we will have to wait to see what the Daily Mail and NOTW say in the coming weeks.

Comment #12We really shouldn’t be buyin’ players who can’t get a game for the top 4…
…I’d sooner buy someone that hasn’t had a chance at a big club & we would be a step up for them & they’d wanna prove themself!..

Comment #13If we got the best out of Riise I think he would be a good addition to the squad, he certainly gives 100+% effort and we know he has the legs (stamina speeed and skill) for the EPL.

Comment #14It’s true Bill but wouldn’t he wanna play every game & therefore stunt Enrique’s growth, not to mention some of the kids comin’ thru?..

Comment #15look at this guys.. i wouldn’t mind paying 3-4mil for a 27 year old seasoned premiership player who isn’t asking more than 40k/week and could cover for us anywhere along the left flank.. he could be another source of goals for us, instead of just relying on the front 2 or 3.
