Newcastle Interested In Moroccan Defender

May 12th, 2008 · 25 Comments

Newcastle are being linked today with Moroccan defender Abdeslam Ouaddou, who has confirmed he would like to return to England.

Abdeslam Ouaddou - good enough for Newcastle?

The 29-year-old Valenciennes defender used to play at Fulham, from 2001 to 2005, but only played 21 games for them.

Abdeslam started his football career late, at the age of 21, when he joined Nancy in the French league. In January 1, 2007, the opening day of the January transfer window, a year ago, Ouaddou joined Valenciennes FC on a free transfer.

Most of his football has been with French club Rennes (2003-2006), for whom he has played 82 times and scored 5 goals.

It is being reported that Stoke City and West Brom may be keen on the player with Newcastle and Middlesbrough.

Ouaddou has talked recently to Sky Sports news:

“Any player in the world would consider playing in the Premier League,”

“You can test yourself against the best players in the world, it is a dream and I am flattered to be linked with those teams.”

“If a club agrees a fee for me, I would go where I was needed and would represent Moroccan football with pride.”

The problem we have with Quaddou and this report from Sky Sports, is we’re not at all sure he’s good enough for Newcastle.

We’d be rather surprised if Newcastle went after him. He has played 46 times for Morocco and scored 2 goals.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Now that Chelsea are busy tying up the bosingwa deal we should move for Veloso!!!!!!!!

Not a good option really. Again we are cast as competing with the likes of Stoke, West Brom, and the smoggies for players. Anyway it could be another Sky Sports hot air blast - they talk out of their arses quite a lot these days. Still think we should go for Sol Campbell, Wright-Phillips, McGeady (if Zog leaves or Duff continues to spiral downwards), and a LB cover for Enrique. But what about Tozer being the understudy? What about Alonso at the scousers - he may be worth a shout? Diarra would be a good option.

As I said earlier, as well as this rumour.

Tribal Football seem to think we are after Edgar Davids, looks like the silly season is well and truly under way. :) :) :)

    Are we now?..(interested?)
…Or is it just link NUFC with anyone time, again?..
…Oh, it could be the latter, yawn!..
    …Don’t believe the hype!..

I would guess that our scouts have been busy, and at some point over the season they might have been at a club match, and they will properly have thought we could get better… However such a visit might be enough for his agent to state that we are interested.

We can get better defenders than him, such as Dunne, Cuellar, Fabricio Collocini and many more!

Ouaddou likes to be beside the sea side!

DEFINANTELY the way foward buying a 29 year old defender we have heard very little of AND played for FULHAM fog god sake. Goes to show what sort of player he is with WEST BROM,STOKE and the BORO after him. Comon mann we have better players at NUFC now. We are going backwards. Maybe Ashley should be told to reduce season ticket prices now that big signings are finished. The quality of player will go down so we should pay less for matches its all SWINGS AND ROUND ABOUTS.

Never heard of him and from what you guys say - he seems shite !!!!!

  • 16 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 12, 2008 at 12:55

collicini has agreed on a move to barca

  • 17 RyanTeh // May 12, 2008 at 13:08

hmm, since Chelsea is buying so many players. We should buy some players like SWP or Joe Cole if we ever got the chance. They play quite well as winger

  • 18 Yahya Ahmad // May 12, 2008 at 13:22

“Geordie Gerrard7″ can u send me a link that he has agred to move to Barcelona. Also we have been linked with another class defender Christoph Metzelder!

  • 19 Yahya Ahmad // May 12, 2008 at 13:26

“RyanTeh” you are right, we need a good right winder and Shaun wrigh-phillips or Joe cole can fill that space as their chances of playing first team football limited as Chelsea are buying loads of players!

  • 22 Jamie G // May 12, 2008 at 15:54

    carlos cuellar please.

  • 23 Mehzeb // May 12, 2008 at 20:48

In terms of defensive reinforcements, I’d much rather have:

Carlos Cueller, Nicky Shorey, and Richard Dunne.

Btw, Cueller has been priced at 10m. That sound too much to you guys considering he had been signed for less than 1m by Rangers?

  • 24 Tom_Toon // May 12, 2008 at 20:49

I think they singed him for like 2.3 mil, not sure though, you’d have to check it.

  • 25 Mehzeb // May 13, 2008 at 9:11

My bad. 1m upfront, and 1.3 mil in installments. :-)
